  1. The only reason is is because I haven't really got round to it!  I have nothing against weathering, but it is not really a skill I have mastered yet.  I have 'weathered' a few items, mainly wagons.  So far, I have only done r-t-r items, nothing I have kit built!

    Hi

What is your loco fleet that you use on the layout ?

    Hi,

The majority of the locos are from Bachmann, 4 * small praires, a 57xx, 64xx, 2251 etc.  There is also a Hornby 52xx which is a lovely runner, but a bit big for a small branchline terminus.  I also have a couple of Airfix 14xx and one of the Hattons/DJM 14xx, but they are all indifferent runners so don't see much use.

Most of the locos I use can be seen in the previous pages of this topic.

SNCF offer a special railcard for families with three or more children.

Regarding Carrefour; I believe they opened three 'Hypermarkets' in the UK at about the same time. Apart from the one in Caerphilly, there was one somewhere in Telford. No idea where the third one was. I have an inkling they were a joint venture with Asda, who were moving from being a dairy company into a mainstream retailer.

There was one at Patchway, or what is now Cribbs Causeway north of Bristol.  Don't know if that was the third one, or came later

  5. Time for another update!

I've had the last week off work, which despite not being able to have our two hotel breaks as planned, it was a pleasant week off work.  As well as doing some tasks around the house which we normally don't get the time/can't be bothered with, I have managed to squeeze in a bit of modelling time.

First on the bench, picked up at last years Bristol (Thornbury) show, is this old Mailcaoch GW 'Giant'.  It is based on the Monster van, but with corridor connections, and internal framing.

I have assembled it, and as shown, have performed a few test runs to make sure it negotiates the curves and points.

I now need to do the usual painting and lettering

Not sure when Bachmann first produced their small prairies - quite a while before I returned to this game I think - but I think the model has stood the test of time.  Still one of my favourites.

I have four of them, I have to resist the urge to buy any more! They all run smoothly and do what is asked of them.

It is always a joy to catch-up on your layout, I am very envious!

  7. Hi Robin,

According to the instructions with the kit, I believe it is a diagram 361.  This was fitted with vacuum brake.  Dia 364 was similar, but with a through pipe only.

    Hope that helps

Probably not a usual branch line loco, but it will come out on the 'Sunday specials', when anything goes!

I fitted mine with replacement ends from Keen Systems.  (The Hornby ends just slide out vertically).   They're detailed resin items and include representations of the appropriate scissors-type gangways with the Keen Systems floating endplates to facilitate close coupling.  (Though I don't use the Keen Systems close coupling method, just hook & bar couplings as close as they will go and still get round the curves).

Have a look at the Keen Systems website.  (Usual disclaimer.)

    John C.

I've also used these as well, they make a big difference.

I also fitted the SE Finecast flush glazing, fiddly but makes a big difference

Unfortunately, in the process of shunting and cleaning this track, I broke the Yard loading gauge. I need to find a better way of fixing the gauge to the frame.

My loading gauge takes a battering too - not sure there is any way around it if you need to uncouple stock etc

So I haven’t posted in the 3d printed section for a bit, mostly in the scenery section, but thought I would share an update showing my 3d printed efforts finally in situ! I need to start using my resin printer for the smaller detail pieces like the telegraph poles and gates, but i’ve been lazy and cracked these out on my fdm jobbo!  Next up is the village Church! 8863CBBE-5C4A-42F3-9608-F32A2CB1036B.jpeg.9f14e3ec60df85216c6a475242f0660d.jpeg

That is a superb picture and piece of modelling

Now it needs to find some coaches too!

    Funny you should mention that...

3715 arrives with a couple of corridor coaches, not the usual stock, with a couple of vans in tow.
