After reading the Engine Shed post above, I e-mailed Hornby customer service and received an ambiguous "We have included the smoke deflectors, and these will be used in future releases as the smoke deflectors were an addition to the locomotive during its working life." I asked for clarity (in a detailing pack etc.?) and then got "...the locomotive will have factory fitted smoke deflectors." and a picture of Earl Marischal in as-built condition. I have since cancelled my order and will await the later version to be released.

Just had W1 delivered from TTC Diecast (no affiliation other than very satisfied customer). External box filled with boxed loco and foam and bubblewrap... and slip stating visual inspection and test run already conducted. Item in flawless condition. Additional hassle for retailer but appreciated!

Many thanks for bringing the layout up to Glasgow at the weekend. I spent a thoroughly enjoyable time watching the sequence unfurl and was particularly impressed by both the forced perspectives (small telegraph poles and cracking backscene) and the working, interlinked point rodding between the catch point and up main point where the banker occasionally sat. Inspirational.

Another satisfied customer... Since receiving the tool recently, I have been in the garage every night drilling out a complete rake of coaches - now the most free-running on the layout. Excellent tool, works very well. Many thanks.
