Thanks Kris - good idea, never thought of that! I guess the only thing is you would still need to remove the roof to change the battery...unless the battery was housed under the chassis.

Come to think of it, the battery and switch could have been housed under the chassis so no need to remove the roof  :D

    Hi Pete,

Not sure about this, but could you use a bank of capacitors instead of a battery, with your track pickups? *(Edit - With Diodes to protect against reverse polarity) That way, no flickering and no switches to turn the LED off. If you really loaded up the capacitance then I suspect that it would stay lit for quite a while and as this is 7mm I suspect you could fit more than in the 2mm equivalent...

    Best Regards,

    Chris.

That looks very neat and accurate  Chris

I was interested to read your comment about using the modified filmstrip tiebar as I thought perhaps I was the only 2mm scale modeller still using this method.

I'd be interesting to know what your modification might be please as its always useful to find out how others have found ways to improve on existing ideas.

    Best wishes

    John

Thank you John, If you look at the April 2015 copy of the mag, you will see an article that D869 of this parish has written about it, in far better detail than I could.

  3. In 2mm, smooth free movement is much better than anything which has any "stiction". It's all too easy to derail a fiddleyard full of stock if  sector plate sticks then suddenly moves. Just occured to me that a taper roller head bearing would make a really good pivot. Something like ebay item 270924167058.  Taper rollers are self-aligning and automatically take up any clearance.
Your're right Mark, but I guess the key to not building up stiction will be keeping the bearings clear of grot and rust. You've got me thinking now about roller bearings too, I'd possibly look at these if I had any problems with the thrust bearing, but with deep ball races the bearing needs a good shove to separate the alignment.

    nice progress

    Beautifully made.
    Thank you both!Chris
  4. Thank you Nick, that's pretty much what I'm proposing. I don't suppose you could show the woodworking of your partition for me?

My latest thinking is that I'm probably going to have to stand a piece of 1/8 plywood up vertically using some metal L brackets drilled & attached into the baseboard surface. Then attach a longer piece of 0.5mm ply to this with the requisite curves in the corners.

  5. There was.  I think John won - his pannier has been seen running on St Ruth.

Pity he hasn't written it up then!

I just noticed that your blog doesn't appear in the RSS feed on the 2mm website. It really should.

If you drop a mail to info@2mm.org.uk (Nigel) then he will add it.

Would this mean a commitment to write more than once per year?

Now I know why these chassis are selling so well - you are consuming multiple examples!

why buy one, when you can get two, to support your friendly association...

    Best Regards

    Chris,

  6. Making a rare public appearance to say "Why didn't Chris get in touch with the Brisbanites whilst out here???"

Apologies, The only reason was that I completely forgot about the SEQAG, Its a pity as I had my Class 22, a coach and controller in tow. If I make it out to Aus again I'll be certain to get in touch and try and bring something interesting..

    Chris.

  7. I have to admit It is a little daunting... I think that the sensible thing to have done would be to have got some of the more complicated pieces of point work out of the way before building the boards, but you only live and learn. I'm also hoping that building normal points will become much quicker once the new pegged easitrack point kits are available.

  8. Sorry Rich, this seemed to fall off the world fairly quickly and thus I missed it!

I'm not too sure at what I'm after yet to be honest... I have another 16ft and 17ft6 body, but I was thinking of doing a different diagram from the V14 and V24's that I've already done. I always have an agent to consult my copy anyway, and plenty of other stuff to be getting on with.

    Best Regards.

    Chris.
