As a enthusiasic Amateur It was great to see a artical in the latest issue of BRM. I made the decision of painting my own backsence on my last project in oils. Unlike David Wright I chose to paint Directly onto Plywood as I did not want to have any joints on the backscene. The 6ft backscene and 2ft sidescene boards were first coated in Yellow Ochre acrylic paint. this colour was chosen as the under colour because I wanted my layout to have a bright mid summer feel. A brown under colour would be suited to an Autumnal scene, light blue for a Winter one. At first I started to under paint my scene with the following oil colours Prusian Blue, Burnt Sienna and Titanium White. As the project went on I found that this wasn't needed for the effect I wanted.
Like David I found taking photographs of the area were my model was base made the project much easier. I found that once I had put the first layers of colour down, the painting would be left to dry a little and the the next layer would go on until I was happy with the appearance. I'm not an Artist by no means but the more I did of the painting, the more confident I became. If anyone else is toying with the idea of painting their own backscene I would say go for. If you aren't happy with the first attemp just have another go.
Best Wishes

The First 4 photos were taken to give me ideas for my Backscene.
The following three photos are of the backscene during painting.
The few photos are of the finished thing.
