I had a cashcow for three years and it was really comfy, especially the heated seats that made you think you’d wet yourself,

Please enlighten us Mr swifty on what you drive and it’d better be exciting as per 911 upwards.... ;)

I can't think of many occasions that I've been in one, to be honest!  The point I'm trying to make is if Oxford isn't making ordinary cars then why have they done a Quashqai? Admittedly, they've not done a Juke but I always thought it was one of the better-selling cars in the UK? In the same way, I'm surprised we've not seen a modern-day Golf made?

Personally, I think it's double standards.

On a side note, my fun size ferrari 1.25L Fiesta in "race red" (more mud than paint after a trip to Daresbury!) is the pinnacle of driving performance with 0-60 in 2.5 days, a top speed of something like 104mph and 87bhp under the bonnet. What could be better than that? *tongue firmly in side of cheek*

Definitely, I think it’s a mix of factors, licensing costs and potential sales figures, and some witchcraft added in!

The guys at Oxford told me that they had no interest in producing a Focus at that time because it was ‘too ordinary’, and they tend to produce more standout cars and novelty items e.g. fancy branded vans and Aston’s etc. But then on the other side you see them pumping out regular Qashqais every month and it does feel a little one-sided!

There’s also bias in the German HO 1:87 market too, the likes of Herpa, Busch and Wiking patriotically pushing out every new BMW, Mercedes or VAG car but a Ford? Wash your mouth out!

Fortunately there’s a few Reitze HO cars still out there secondhand, the Escort Mk5, KA Mk1, Transits of the 80s/90s, Mondeo’s Mk1-Mk3 and Focus Mk1, so there are some good things if you’re prepared to go for the smaller scale as I’ve done on my older layouts, only trouble is they do look too small if you’re loading up a wagon with them!!

    Cheers,

    James

To sat a Focus is 'too ordinary' and then produce the Nisan Quashqai (one of the dullest cars!) is quite funny!

I'll have to keep an eye out, you can buy a mk6 fiesta in 1/16 but nothing smaller sadly, or more modern!

Personally, I think the likes of Fiestas/Focus would be a great idea because you see so many of them on the road and you see them on car trains too.

A friend of mine in the retail world was saying there's a huge demand for 80s cars but Oxford doesn't seem to be meeting it...

  3. I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s enjoyed seeing all these recent shots, really liked the 57/0! Makes me regret selling my one, in hindsight I should have kept hold of it.

I was talking to Paul at Chester Models only the other week about wanting to get a model of the Ford Fiesta Mk7, but the likes of Oxford don’t seem to be bothered. One of the best selling cars in the UK sand still no model! If one is released in red then I’ll be buying a few for sure.

    keep up the good work!

I think many of us were expecting a Class 90 in one of the SNCB, DB or SNCF liveries or a more recent one-off like First. There have been a lot of Class 47/57s as limited editions recently, so a pause before another one might have been advisable. Hope they sell well/quickly but I suspect not.

Personally I believe this one will attract strong sales. 57/3 models have held their value well (generally) with a number of them accumulating in value on a well known popular auction website... Whilst pricing on said website are not necessarily reflective of the market, such as the over inflated ‘buy it now’ prices seen on some products, it gives a good idea. With the model also being complete with Lady Penelope etched nameplates and IR crests, it sets it apart from a lot of the resprays available as most can’t source them due to copyright etc. Although some do have them, it is increasingly difficult to get hold of existing nameplates because the original release from a number of years ago depicting ‘Lady P’ in Virgin colours has become increasingly scarce in recent years.

Although the likes of Rainbow Railways will have sold a lot of 57307s in the cable theft livery, I would think some will sell their respray or relivery it and replace it with the RTR version. 2 resprays have appeared on said well known auction site since this weekends announcement but this could be just a coincidence.

That aside, there has been a lot of 47/57s. I would love to see Bachmann release some special edition class 90s from the huge variety of liveries they have worn. I’m particularly hopeful of a 90024 in the stunning Malcolm logistics livery. Hopefully we won’t have to wait long.

  5. Dropped in today as an escape from Christmas shopping, walked away very happy with a Bachmann 57307 in excellent condition for a great price. Customer service was faultless and it was a pleasure to visit, nothing was too much trouble. Admittedly they stock less Hornby than before but for me that’s not a bad thing. For the railway modeller there is still plenty on offer, prices are good (especially for an independent in the middle of cheater!) and the range of accompanying model cars and lorries is excellent.

  6. Just thought I’d drop a comment as I’ve been following this layout for ages and thoroughly enjoying seeing the progress both on Facebook and on here every now and then. Really fantastic modelling, makes me want to order some bits and get cracking on my own project to restart some modelling mojo. Hopefully a north west show one day, if not if I can I’ll make the trip north to railex NE.

    Keep up the good work

    Tom
