Apart from the
Apart from the urgently needed completion of the Bolton route electrification, which will ease matters AFAIK from snippets I have read, the DfT needs to urgently authorise the four tracking between Oxford Road and Piccadilly. Quite why this was "paused", when a few planning issues were hit, after the huge expense and effort of creating the Ordsall Chord, the full benefits of which will never be fully realised without it.
It wasn't four tracking between Picc and Oxford Rd AFAIK - it was just adding 2 new platforms to Piccadilly and extending the platforms at Oxford Rd - the plans I saw did not have any increase in tracks - it is extremely built up, the plans did allow an extra 4 trains per hour from 12 to 16.

We would have used Fox bogies if we could have, we did originally have two lined up - unfortunately the adaptions we needed to make (including fitting the traction motors) would have caused too many engineering problems for us to view this as a practical option, so we went down an alternative route.
Personally I liked it best without it's body on - a pair of goggles and some flying leathers and it would looked most splendid hurtling up and down the GCR

I think he just get fed up countering the crap posted by a handful of people who go out of their way to do him down and spread false stories. I sight the incident of the scammer posing on the NGF some months ago claiming his Clayton was going to be released by Dapol at TINGS
Lets be fair, whilst there may have been some downright false comments Dave didn't always do himself favours, the payment thing with Paypal should have been foreseen and dealt with before the APT became a thing, his filing of documents timely and there is enough evidence to suggest the 14xx is not his best output.
Possibly 2018 has been his annus horriblis so the only way from here is up - he has three solid models to plug which if two of them come off will re-establish his credentials in OO and N.

I am Father Christmas
Can you prove it - I want a SR Olive T3 for Chrismas please in OO

Presumably there is a reason for withdrawing from RMweb.
But if he doesn't post updates here and only communicates by email to those who have registered an EOI then he is unlikely to attract any new potential customers who frequent the forum. He is unlikely to compete with the big companies with full page adverts in commercial magazines so to some extent it's a bit like cutting off one marketing channel.

I don't know the reason Grahame
I just noticed his lack of presence and then the lack of comments when he was logged on - he is sometimes live on the site, other times he may be here as a guest but he hasn't posted since October 4th.
His current contact method is first email to his investors/EOI and then a posting on his website. I agree it does seem retrograde, but I think his product topics had become a pro Dave / anti Dave arena which was probably not good for generating sales from and in some ways he had lost the battle especially with the 14xx.
It all remains to be seen how he will use printed media to promote his models and see if that draws in the necessary interest to get the APT/King over the line in terms of numbers (IDK where these products are right now) and if he can get sufficient EOI on the Mogul.
He's at Warley so he's still visible and perhaps it will generate the interest he needs to move these three key products, a return of the N class 17 would have also been nice especially as that had got to a working EP.

Dave indicated on his site that it is a 3D King that will be on display - unless he has gone to tooling then that is all can be expected.
You need to contact him via his site for answers directly as he isn't posting on here.

I'm thinking to myself what if the LNER sold them (or one of them) to the SR in 1931 and placed it in the South West where the LSWR electricfication programme wouldn't reach as an experiment....

There is the famous one at Crewe Works, whether it is still used to move bogies I don't know.

Well we know now it won't be an NER Autocar, an O gauge class 17, a crane, an N gauge Garratt, probably not GT3 unless they want to take from a crowdfunder

Hi all,
Let me start by saying I've bought numerous items from Hattons over the years and been very happy, both with the items and the service.
Recently, I've started wondering if their pre-owned section is really that good value. Granted there are some unusual and good value items there from time to time but often I'm left wondering "why would I spend £X on a pre-owned item when brand new is not much more". I accept that livery etc comes into play, but if that isn't the deciding factor, there's often not much point - there are some items that are only £5 more expensive new if you're not adamant of a colour.
Also, how are prices worked out for older items, especially when there are multiple separate lots for essentially the same item. Obviously if something is damaged, has a part missing or a damaged/replacement box I understand the price being lower but some items are as new, but priced different.
This isn't meant to be critical, it just makes it difficult to decide if something pre-owned is a bargain or not!
Enfys
Something is a bargain if you feel it is, it's subjective. I got a rather lovely N class in Olive Green just recently from Hattons and I thought for the price it was a bargain for the model I received.
Hattons prices are higher than say Ebay but when you make a purchase from Hattons you have a much better expectation that what you are buying is what you are getting and you have your 14 day distance selling rights too.
There are other second hand places out there on the web and I've bought from a few, they also tend to be cheaper but they don't have the overheads of Hattons so i guess that makes a difference.
But there have been items i have seen on Hattons that i couldn't get elsewhere so have paid the price, at the end of the day we all have a choice and sometimes I choose Hattons, sometimes I choose somewhere else and sometimes I choose not to purchase from anywhere.

When your nurse is suggesting you wear bin liners then that is a really serious case of the squits.
I wouldn't leave the house for a couple of days.

Andy,
I see what you did there. Can't wait to view your Settle - Carlisle interpretation. LOL
Best regards,
Paul

Hello,
A good question, and one that lots of people are asking. We thought it was better to fill a gap that hadn't been covered by previous releases first, and then (if there's enough demand), to work our way forwards through the variants so that we can do Flexicoil-fitted Class 86/4s and 86/6s and then take another look at the 86/2s later, rather than repeating what had already been produced a few years ago.
Pantograph is based on official drawings of the correct Stone-Faiveley type, but for practical reasons it has had to be 'beefed up' a little to withstand use on 4mm scale catenary. We're waiting to see the first samples 'in the flesh' and will then consider any changes that might be required.
Hope this helps
Ben
But shouldn't you now be known as HeljanBen - or even HeljanDave - as it appears you need to be called Dave if you represent your company on here.

Interesting - all this is AL6 based - what of the flexicoil varieties - are they future plans or has someone else got designs on that now?
-
Good to see they are 6 months ahead on 2019 activity as well - getting a handle on when stuff promised arrives is a big part of confidence building for shops and consumers.
This looks interesting - Hattons and to a lesser extent Rails/Kernow are probably in their thoughts here: "Some of these retailers have begun to use the price advantage and associated customer traffic we handed them to produce models that compete directly with our own. We do not think it is beneficial in the long term to provide an advantage to those businesses that seek to compete directly with us."
-
I applaud the efforts to make Dave's layout appear unduly busy; normally this can be achieved with two people. I'll try to get over on Saturday afternoon.
You beat me to it

OO and N, has a Facebook page https://m.facebook.com/GT3-Gas-Turbine-Model-Project-177648702945111/I couldn't find anything else on this announcement on here.
Crowdfunded GT3 announced, in what I presume is 4mm ??

I hope you had a hi-viz on and the appropriate trackside passes.

Well the Tim Coles version was 5 1/2 inch gauge built over 5 years ago and it seems it is his R&D that is being used for this model.
There is more detail on Facebook - N and OO same price with/without sound.

Was this for someone else or did you develop the layout to go with these buildings?

Do I believe there’s enough demand for 5000- 6000 Blue sealed beam peaks... to make it worth it, No.
I don't think it needs 5000 sealed beam peaks - I am sure 1500 would be enough and if wrapped around a new tooling for a general Peak model series then not an issue.
If the lack of a sealed beam Peak by Bachmann is licencing then another manufacturer won't be so encumbered,

Is this person someone I should have heard of?
This just looks very similar to the O gauge Twins web page - not the same person I know but there isn't a lot in this new website other than an initial £50 deposit if the EOI reach a break even level (which is interesting given there is no price).
-
Excellent work, this guarantees a Peak will be Accurascale's model announcement at Warley.

Carrog platform, unless I'm much mistaken.
The photo above is actually from the same article and keeps its original caption, for the sake of its evident innacuracy!
Must admit I was having difficulty understanding when a middle finger salute had been (officially) used by Nazis in support of their leader, it wasn't unknown though for Churchill to throw a couple of fingers up.

I think they would prefer people to loiter upstairs rather than on the platform, it did seem to attract some odd people down there.
