  1. I have to do things the old fashioned way, counting bricks and using paper and pencil. Currently drawing up a level crossing keeper's house for use as a station building before I start building. Thank you for the pdf, it could come in useful.
  2. Thanks, I'll dig it out of the pile and read it again. In passing, can you tell me the source of the station building? I may have missed it being mentioned. Is it a kit or scratch build? I'm enjoying the thread and storing ideas away for my own use later.
  3. Lincolnshire Life magazine did a small article on the proposed Spilsby/Horncastle extension sometime in the early 70s, I still have it ,and the Lincolnshire Archive route plan, somewhere in my filing (?) system. Wasn't there a layout in Railway Modeller at some time called 'Mavis Enderby'?
  4. Bumping the topic, the latest couple of Middleton Press 'Lincolnshire' picture books have had a number of Firsby photos included. How are the plans progressing?
  5. Reminds me, I really must finish the one I've had on the board since before Xmas!
  6. I thought, for a moment, that the Pug was supposed to be one of those American style mail boxes , and wondered where it was going on the layout!
  7. Volume 2 arrived here for Christmas. I only wish someone could do similar for the GN in Lincolnshire. Just shows what can be done, and the price IMO is not too bad for the information contained. I'd be in heaven.
  8. Thank you for the photos of the gorgeous street scene. I've been looking for inspiration for one side of my layout, and now I've found it!
  9. I have to admit, most of the layouts/authors already mentioned would appear on my list. I must, however, mention two Americans, John Allen and his "Gorre and Dapheted", with its floor to ceiling valleys, and Malcolm Furlow, whose articles on his "San Juan" layout made me buy the book on its build.
  10. Interesting method of showing a number of different scenes in a small area. Keep us updated on progress.
  11. I musn't say too much, MrsJ likes George. I can't say I liked the model railway, too crowded for my liking, Can't wait till the garden railway one turns up in a later episode.
  12. I have a number of his 7mm 'personalities' to populate my eventual locale. They are far superior to the usual standard, I only wish there were more. I'd love a 'thin clergyman' and a 'fat clergyman' to be included in the range, but that's probably wishful thinking. ps, unfortunately my painting does not match up to those previously seen on this thread.
  13. I've just come across your project. I have some photos of the station under the overall roof if they can help. Taken in the mid-60s in b/w, unfortunately the ones of outside have dissappeared. Let me have a pm if I can help.
  14. Not wishing to hijack the thread - Hope you'll allow this. Many years ago I photographed Firsby, most of the exterior pics have dissapeared, but I still have some of the platforms under the awning. Would these help? I have in mind, but may not get round, to a model of Spilsby. Took the photos and measurements of the station building at the same time as above, but never got further than a drawing. It would be interesting to know how many folk are doing the various Lincolnshire stations. Ah well, back to the armchair!
  15. A very nicely finished model. It looks about right for a Victorian level crossing keepers house, and I might be tempted into one.
  16. Were some of these plans listed in the Skinley drawings catalogue of some years ago, or perhaps they were by Edward Beal. I know some sort of drawings were, as I had the 'row of shops' plan. I see Skinley still advertise in the Railway Modeller, though I think they've changed hands a couple of times.
