  1. View Advert Wiveliscombe Exhibition Layout - 4mm For Sale The layout is a replica in 4mm OO Gauge of Wiveliscombe station on the Taunton to Barnstaple branch with the surrounding buildings and scenery based on operations in the late 1950s. The layout has visited over 80 exhibitions since being built in 1992, and won many awards for its detailed model making and scenery. The surrounding scenery is accurate with numerous positive comments at exhibitions from people who lived or grew up in the village being made at exhibitions. Since lockdown 2020 the layout has been in dry storage, but remains in perfect condition having been checked in the past 10 days. Unfortunately owing to the sudden passing of one of two the layout owners (Tony Hiscock) earlier this year and, the ill health of Derek Garrett, a decision now needs to be made regarding its future, and as a result serious expressions of interest are welcomed from societies, groups or individuals. The layout is 16ft 6” wide by 9ft deep, with an overhead clearance of 8ft (with the front lighting canopy fitted). With two access points either end for entrance and exit of operators. As a static display without fiddle yard attached it could be reduced to 16ft 6” Wide x 5ft Deep. The Layout is entirely analogue controlled, and features a wealth of period stock (approx 25 locomotives, 50 coaches and period freight wagons). The fiddle yard contains 12 through roads. The layout fits in a single medium wheel-based transit style van for transportation. The layout also featured in Hornby Magazine (Issue 11) in May 2008. At this stage, the owners would be interested to hear from any person/ group/ society who may be interested in purchasing the layout, either complete with rolling stock and fiddle yard, or as a static exhibit. Viewing can be arranged but not in a fully built state due to the layout being bigger than the driveway or garage adjacent! However, assistance can be provided in how to erect and run the layout. Initial enquiries as a PM to myself please, but serious enquiries, questions and offers only. To preserve an online record of the layout, I have started a layout forum thread (clickable link) that contains further pictures, which any future owner of the layout is welcome to take over if they wish to document its future. Please note, I am not one of the owners, but can happily put people in touch with them, my role is purely helping out some friends! The layout is based very near Taunton, but any potential buyer would need to collect, and would need a van to do so. The layout can be sold with or without rolling stock. Because of the need to clear the layout from its current location and a distinct lack of space, the owners are looking to conclude its future by the end of May 2023. If its not sold or found a good home, the likelihood is that it will need to be broke up. Note: The bowed top to the storage case in the image below is only due to the stands on top, and does not affect the layout in anyway. 2. Afternoon all, The Dads of two good friends of mine own this exhibition layout, which has been seen countless times in the South West at various exhibitions over the past 30 years - the total of exhibition appearances is over 80 I am told! Unfortunately, one of the two owners has sadly died recently, and the time has come to either pass it on or re-enact the Beeching Axe and break it up. The remaining owner, and son's of the other, are open to offers if anyone is interested, and I've put a note in the for sale section on RmWeb (or PM me if your interested - but serious enquiries only please), but felt it should really appear on here for posterity. There are plenty of other pictures available if people are interested. The layout was built in 1992 and performed faultlessly every time its been out. It is based on Wiveliscombe Station on the Taunton to Barnstaple line, with the surrounding buildings and scenery dating it around the late 1950s. The real branch was closed in 1966. It was featured in Hornby Magazine in May 2008. All images are (I believe) included with permission of the appropriate photographers.
  3. @manna @MRE2 Thanks to both of you for your thoughts and recollections, so valuable as time moves on. Please feel free to add any other detail about railway life/activities around Kings Cross station/shed/goods yard/Holloway area. All absolutely fascinating and a point in time that will never happen again. @MRE2 You mentioned the 4S82 Freightliner and the parcels traffic - what was the normal motive power for those at the time? I am assuming 47s? Rich
  4. Tony Gee very kindly put up with my company for yet another evening tonight ... I have posted a little video of Grandborough Junction over on Tony Wright's thread if anyone wishes to take a look :)
  5. Evening all, Courtesy of @t-b-g, I have had the privilege of another very enjoyable evening in Tony's company, operating Buckingham. Having taken a couple of little video shots on the phone during the running session (in between a number of fascinating and various conversations), I did a quick edit using Apple's iMovie and came up with the following. Not the most awe-inspiring filming, and concentrating on Grandborough Junction which I was operating (reasonably successfully!) this evening, but Tony suggested you chaps may like to see it. Rich
  6. Aside from Copenhagen Fields, when you look at what Jerry is achieving with his Bath Queen Square, and Laurie is doing with Yeovil .. for 2FS its all VERY inspirational. Let me know Jerry, I'll pop over and we can do a passing shot! 😂 Rich
  7. Your group isnt searching for that stripper again are they Andy?
  8. You're probably not .. but you may need to explain to Laurie what an HST is ... the Southern Railways didn't have them you know :). If I could 'borrow' some wheels to convert my Mk3 sets .. I could sneak it on one running night when Laurie is making coffee 😂. Seriously, I suspect it would look rather good, slightly tilted on the curves. Rich
  9. I think a photo and an email to Dapol asking if there are any repair options is necessary there. That is unreal. Presumably it was straight when you bought it? Rich
  10. At some point every month, I come back to this thread and relook at the post above transforming a Triang Nellie, and think I'd really like to come up with a small layout that could utilise something like that! Then lo and behold while looking through some old Railway Modellers, I came across a layout I have long thought was wonderful - not rivet-counter accurate, but just a lovely nice little layout. The Hardup, Stoneybroke and Skint! See RM August 1992. 14'x2' over five boards, depicting a fictional railway, built cheaply using vehicles to O-16.5 to suggest narrow gauge. They included former 'Desmond' style locos and and a couple of Peco Hunslet kits. That then set me thinking about what could be done with some small locos, modified/updated and some cheap rolling stock ... and hey presto! I found myself back here looking at Nellie once more! Given that the Electrotren chassis seems to have gone the way of the Do-do ... could @On30runner (or anyone who has one of the electrotren chassis) tell me what diameter wheels they use please? I have a plan ...... (What you all mean, oh dear 😜) Rich
  11. One observes that there's no video of that!!!
  12. Hi Andy, Sorry to hear the Mojo has gone on holiday again .. .stop looking at these Jet2 bargain fares and giving it ideas! Sure all will return with gusto mate, but sounds like your having a good time with the music side! Should we have a 'AP can be seen live at ...' thread I wonder :) I have this idea of you playing 'this train don't stop here any more' together with a Class 37 on Speedlink going round and round the edge of the stage!! Sorry, obviously forgot to take my pills this morning! :) Long as all is well with you mate, thats the main thing. Rich
  13. All seems very quiet in the world of Tonleigh Bridge Andy ... everything ok? One hopes traffic into the yard hasn't deteriorated with this earth fault around Hook that has disrupted the South Western Main Line ... or a change of layout? 😀
  14. Richard, Many thanks on behalf of me, and anyone that follows me! Rich
  15. Richard, If you still have the photographs, is there any chance of being able to reupload some them to the appropriate messages in your thread? It would be a big help to those of us building this kit! Rich
  16. Mike, Thanks for that, and for going to the trouble of setting that up again, I have only recently come across your thread after it was suggested looking at for a NER tank I am slowly building, but I really need to sit down with the iPad and good cup of coffee and read through the first 72 pages! Looks like many good hints and tips. Thanks again for the photo with the jig - logical really when you think about it, but its the thinking about it that is a core thing! Thanks for the background on assembling layers of etches. I have been using a liquid flux but I am thinking I need to get some proper put it on with a cocktail stick type sticky flux. That might be where I am falling down. When you say 'layers clamped together' are you using just normal non-plastic pinch clamps or putting them on wire like the jig and using a bit of weight to press together? Avidly watching and following along now :) Richard
  17. Mike, Stunning work with the B4. Do you have any images of the card jig you’ve made for positioning the brake blocks? Amazing how neat the various layers are, I have never felt comfort or really got the hand of sweating layers of etch together! Also, looking at the frames, the double spacers at the front are presumably soldered together, but I cannot see any solder line at all? Can I ask how you’ve done them? Richard
  18. Would agree entirely - not seen a fees deal in a while tho now? Rich
  19. Hi Chris, you have options such as Hatton/Rails etc.. but they won’t given you market price. I’d suggest taking out the Gold membership on here, which as well as supporting rmWeb, gives you access to a whole range of magazines to read digitally and gives you access to the For Sale forum on here. Alternatively, the N Gauge Forum has a selling option, or a purchase a one-off stand at one of the Toy & Train Fairs that are held regularly around the country. Also depends on whether you one to sell to one person or split the collection, and how much time you want to spend dealing with it. May be post a general list of the stock, nothing detailed just give people an overview. The layout might be more difficult to sell depending on its size and what’s included. For anything online make sure you have photos of the items so people are in no doubt what your selling, and if it’s damaged or not perfect (looks or running quality) in anyway be honest! Rich
  20. Just a quick thank you to everyone who has contributed to this thread so far, really useful and in the best spirit of rmWeb - thank you! Rich
  21. Good god, I think that should have been oh dear, oh dear oh de... hang on .... oh 'ampshire Fire service, hello could I put you on warning for Friday please...
  22. He does seem to have the knack of always flying around when something interesting is about .. and with a box brownie to hand as well! 😂 Superb modelling as ever - I dont comment much, but love your photographic updates (and those of the Sqd. Ldr!) Rich
  23. Without wishing to 'harp on' about the fish workings, a bit of search around rmWeb revealed the above quote from another 'Fish Train' topic back in early 2019, that I have included here as a bit more reference to the earlier image. Rich
  24. Yes, thanks for that. I have had a quick look but not had time to go through it in any depth - not a site I have come across before. Thanks for the links.
