Rather concerned that Chas Levin reports Oxford Rail have no repair facilities - I don't think Peter's Spares hold any spare parts for them either. Longterm this could lead to problems in keeping locos running.  (Hornby spares also seem to be in short supply).

Hoping to see my 69612 soon now - meantime has anyone a simple solution to those far too  long couplings?

We can only supply parts that we are offered by the supplier and as yet Oxford Rail haven't offered a list of spares. Thanks Peter

It is definitely the same photo again.  Exporting the photos and zooming in, you can see that the specks of dust on the wheels are the same.

I changed the original pic and added a new one to the messages. So the ones you see on the screen are the same but still different from the original that was removed. Thanks Peter

Will you be doing wheels that have the correct centres for Westerns and Warships please? The lack of them on the Lima locos stands out more than the flanges IMHO.

Hi there, no we won't be making prototypical wheels as this would mean more tooling and a lot more choices. This would not be cost affective due to the number sold. Thanks Peter

Has there been any news on the prices of these wheels because aswell as the 73 which I would just do a complete rewheel on I have a 37 which will need all 6 axles doing and a set of gear cogs between the wheels and the cd/dvd motor when its fitted.

Any information on these will be highly welcome.

Hi there, we will be cheaper than our competitors but until they land with all shipping costs we have no set price as yet. Thanks Peter

I've got a few Lima 73's and a similar amount of DMU's that need doing, so i'm in the market for some.

The coach wheels you already do are fantastic. I've even used them to do the motor bogie on one of my DMU's. Will the axle diameter be the same size as the Lima originals?

Hi there, they are designed to go straight in. Thanks Peter

By removing the Lima pick ups you can get impreskive pulling power with Ultrascale.

How do I p reorder a set of wheels for a 40, 47 and a proper sized set for a Deltic please?

    Baz

Hi there, thanks for the info. We are not taking pre orders as until they land here made we don't have costings as yet. Just keep an eye on here or view our website in the Lima spares and Peters Spares, Spares section and they will be listed once they arrive. We are doing both the original sizes so the Deltic will still have a small wheel. This is to not change the ride height of the locos.

    Hi Peter,

I will be following this topic closely. I have just rewheeled a Lima 73 using your replacement wagon wheels by bushing the lima bogies and adding extra pickups.

There seems to be no loss in traction, I have reused the original weight. These wheels could be a real boon to modellers with Lima models that don't have the money to afford modern alternatives.  I will post some pictures of my conversion at the weekend if they would of be any use.  Could we have some on 2mm axles to upgrade Hornby models as well please.

We are doing the two standard sizes and selling all axles in singles so customers can buy however many they need for four or six axle locos. The Smaller wheel will be fore the Class 73.

    Unscrew & remove bogie frame

Insert flat bladed screwdriver between wheel & motor bogie

    Twist screwdriver

    Job done! :wink_mini:

I'll be following this thread as I've got some DMU's that may be being treated to this product.

We are doing the two standard sizes and selling all axles in singles so customers can buy however many they need for four or six axle locos. The Smaller wheel will be fore the DMU's Dummy coaches can use our lima wagon / coach wheel already produced.

I find bullfrog snot cures Lima diesel traction problems. My Class 20 pulls 20 coaches no problem. The single bogie diesels have good haulage power with snot over the traction tyres so it should work with replacement wheelsets

H there, we are trying to not have tyres or snot so there are more pickups for DCC modellers. Thanks Peter

Bob on reply from Cloggy Dog.

Cheap and dirty test. Tell your potential customers to remove the traction tyres on their model prior to purchase, and assess for themselves what the effect on traction will be.

Don't offer wheels for the class 20 for the reason given, you will only win bad press for your business.

Thanks for that, we are not going to do the 20's.

  11. Dear RMweb readers,

As well as our other wheels we are planning on making some more scale and traction tyre free Lima Diesel Replacement Wheelsets. We have been doing some work already but wondered if anyone has done any conversions with other makers wheels (we are hoping to have a much more cost effective alternative) and how they got around the lack of traction. (I know you can just shove loads of weight in it.) But I'm looking to find out anyones experience and what they pull. Thanks Peter, Peters Spares Model Railways Ltd

  12. For any other comments left above:

We did have a stock error on a O Gauge Parkside kit that has now arrived and been sent to our customer. We would normally contact within 24 hours (give us time to re check the store for the missing item) but this time of year we have been very busy with the expected Christmas rush. This sort of stock shortage can sometimes arise if we have low stock ie one of an item when the customers order downloads from eBay there could be a very slim chance a customer grabs one in the store and pays at the till or the website takes an order for the same time.

The system we use controls the shop - eBay - the Website and our Amazon store and synchronises stock arriving or departing within ten minutes so this sort or issue can unfortunately arise but not very often.

We have no new management and I am still overseeing all aspects of the stores operation.

Items are cheaper on our website than on eBay or Amazon due to the fees that they charge (they even take fees from the postage paid).

We would prefer customers to use our website as they will save some money (I have to add that the website minimum postage is £4 so if you want an item like a pack of tyres the RRP price would be more on eBay but postage would be £2 so like I do when I buy items it's best to check prices before paying unless you are just happy with the postage displayed). The cart on our website will calculate postage correctly as long as the customer selects their correct location. Also overseas customers that are VAT exempt can also save the VAT.

I hope you all have more information now and I wish everyone a Happy Christmas and a Wonderful New Year.

  13. Hi there,

Peter from Peters Spares Model Railways Ltd. My colleague spotted this customer complaint so I thought best to pop on and explain the details fully.

eBay can calculate combined postage for the customer, however any order over £50 (and under our £150 free postage offer for two or more different items) Shipped to mainland UK (not highlands and Islands). Needs to be tracked and insured with a courier or by Special Delivery. As eBay can't compute this, all we can do is display clearly this fact:

Taken from even one of our eBay pages...

We offer a flat rate postage charge for UK and overseas (unless stated in the listing) one amount of postage for one or more items so you can buy more than one item for the same postage price. Any order over £50.00 in goods will need to be sent via a courier to be tracked and insured. eBay won't do this automatically so please request an invoice.

This is automatically calculated by eBay at the checkout page. If you feel that the postage is incorrect do not pay. Instead, please request or await an invoice. (Courier 24 hour shipping with insurance and tracking (depending on location see below) can be purchased instead or 1st Class please select this at the time of paying or ask us to amend the invoice.) If you are purchasing from overseas please request an invoice before paying for combined orders.

This also applies if you are not living in the mainland UK courier area as eBay doesn't know to charge to say the Highlands.

We also do try to help and if a customer orders x20 of something with a £2.00 postage rate but x20 of the item would make a £4.00 postal rate we very often let it slide if we can.

For this particular customers order the items were more than £50 and the customer had not contacted us prior to paying or awaited a new invoice so we had to message them and ask for the extra £2.99.

eBay are wrong in what they have told the customer as they have not had all the facts and it is ok to request postage if needed due to errors with their system.

I hope this clears the matter up. And would appreciate any customer wanting to vent their issue not to do it on forums or our facebook page unless they have all the facts and have read our postage terms and conditions first.

    Thanks Peter
