  1. As an ex-pat, I browse this site a lot as my "magazine". I do have a subscription to Model Railroader - while it is US-centric and I model the banger blue era, it is full of useful techniques and perhaps more importantly, it gives information on suppliers. While I do buy many of my major supplies from the UK, there are many "universal" supplies or ones that can be anglicized that can be obtained locally (or mail order). The layout articles tend to be basement empire types, but there is still much useful information to be gleaned.
  2. Big lurker here on this thread, it is one I check daily. I thought the Cl25 plus the deconstructed footbridge consist would make an awesome short freight (image J5868 + J5869). What wagon types are in tow and how many other wagons (and types) were (or might have been) attached? Thanks, Tex
  3. I believe Mr. (Howard) Sprenger was my maths teacher (in the late '70's) - I never knew he was into railways.
  4. May I know what colors you tried? I am trying to find the right color too,
  5. I grew up in Burton, we always considered ourselves in the East Midlands.
  6. PVA = polyvinyl acetate. Not to go all chemistry on you, but it is an ester rather than an acid. It would only be acidic if it underwent hydrolysis, and under normal conditions this would occur very slowly. Acidic damage to your rail is more likely from flux, I wonder if treating it with an aqueous solution of baking soda will cure your problem.
  7. I grew up in Burton and travelled this line many times. As I recall, the wagon repair depot was there in the eighties, possibly earlier, and seemed to do a good trade on the MGR wagons. There was small depot to the south that always had a few things on it, it closed in the early eighties I believe. There was a good mixture of traffic through the areas and a variety of loco classes that went through. Good luck with your project.
