  1. Maybe what you need is LOW TACK masking tape, I find Tamiya masking tapes to be very low tack, a tip I was given after applying the tape is to then paint the base colour where you want your lines, so if any "bleed" under that seals it, also remove the tape as soon as possible, very carefully so you can catch if any base paint is lifting.
  2. That was my experience as well, the Jury asked questions via the Usher, on two occasions, each time an answer came back.
  3. So was I, hardly any waiting around, sat on two cases, child abuse and drug smuggling, got rejected on a third rape case, so that was me finished after six days, found it all very interesting, made me really think how easy you could find yourself in the dock, pleased to have done my bit, be prepared to hear or possibly see some unpleasant or upsetting things.
  4. I have just that, on the backscene, the biggest compromise is that while the width is scale, the length has been reduced by 40%, I find it a bit odd that we go to the minute detail, on some things, and get upset on some incorrect detail or operation, but except the whole station being quashed to a fraction of its correct size, I know it is lack of space and would you really want to undertake the building of a station say 40' long in 4mm, I think not.
  5. Interesting point, I think we, in Europe, have a very outdated view of the world outside of Europe, especially Asia, a few years ago when one of my African workmates went back to The Gambia, he always took a collection of old mobile phones as they were in great demand, today he says no one is interested as they can buy all the latest phones, he also says China is everywhere, building roads, railways, stadiums, hospitals etc. in exchange for raw materials and influence.
  6. The problem is not the difference between OO or HO wheels, they are the same, it is how deep the flanges are, some OO RTR locos will be happy with that track, similarly some HO RTR locos will not, your friend would need a full set of finer flange OO replacement wheels, I would think not a straight forward job, some level of skill/knowledge would be required, or someone to do it for him. Surprised he has a problem with Code 83, could be he has a problem going through the points which may be the back to back, (the distance from the back of one wheel to the back of the other) this can be adjusted, a back to back gauge would be required and again some skill/knowledge. Good luck, would be a shame if the P2 became a showcase model only.
  7. With my eyes I tend to take my glasses off and have invested in an dimmable led work lamp, cost £95 but for me was worth it.
  8. Just a thought, water running off from the boiler condensation pipe, if condensing boiler fitted, or air in the system when the pump runs, can sound like "rushing water".
  9. I think this is one of the joys of modelling a prototype, information keeps coming to light, I found a photo recently of a station I first exhibited in 1991, now in a new home, which showed I had guessed incorrectly on a roof detail, still gave pleasure to find it. Some features look improbable, or incorrect on a freelance layout but often existed on the prototype, knowable feedback is always interesting, one of my layouts features a Liberty ship, City of Ely, a visitor had served on that ship and pointed out his cabin porthole, also that the funnel was the incorrect colour, now repainted.
  10. Thanks for the tip, just updated my details, all this talk of GWR, makes me even more keen on receiving my SECR ones.
  11. Reminds me of a tale I was told from the 1950's of a group of bargemen, in south London who regularly paid extra, for 1st class in order to get a seat, one day they were challenged by a fellow traveller to show their tickets, which they did, they then asked to see his and promptly threw it out of the window!
  12. Yes correct, electric scooters are illegal, except on private land and the few trial areas, but the cat is out of the bag and will not go back, until a few more accidents happen little will change, in the long term I wonder about the health issues, most users are young and could quite easily use a push bike and get some exercise!
  13. I'm normally quite forgiving towards scooters and bicycles on the pavement, but if I see they have no intention of acknowledging my presence I do stand my ground and it is not always young people. A bit off topic, I regularly travel to Germany, in cities there are often marked cycle paths on the pavement, recent years has seen a growth of electric cargo bikes, almost like small cars, I can see problems ahead.
  14. Yes a pit is a large hole in the ground, not sure what the difference is with a quarry, just looked at a definition quarry described as a large pit. I have been referring to a ballast pit but the map above labels it as a gravel pit.
  15. Some good responses, for myself the particle size is important, as is the mixture of colours, from normal viewing distance I do not think the particle shape either round or sharp will show to me. When I last visited Dungeness there were still a few sleepers in place, and a point lever, on the line running to the ballast pits, most pebbles seemed to be less than 2". Map just to give an idea of the ballast pit location, the sidings run off the loop at Dungeness station, the ballast from here was used extensively over the SECR system. Have flirted with the idea of modelling this most odd location.
  16. How about adapting the America Micro Engineering products, they do a range of trestles and bridges, injection moulded plastic so is easy to work with, the box may say HO scale but that does not matter.
  17. A bit late to this thread, a cordless airbrush seems a good idea to supplement my normal setup, ordered from Amazon £58.98 sold under brand RIIAI, so not cheap cheap, looked identical to ones shown previously on this thread, warning my one was completely useless could not deliver any quantity of paint however thinned, I thick the air pressure was simply too low, I do use another airbrush successfully, just returned to Amazon for a refund.
  18. Thank you for that explanation, I watched that series while in Germany and was put completely off by the modern features, now I understand I will look at in a different light, maybe it needs an introduction so the likes of me do not get upset!
  19. Good tip, but what I have seen is too coarse, needs to be 0.5mm maximum.
  20. Have experimented with Brick Paver Sand to represent SECR shingle ballast, looking for tips and comments, yes the rail heads need cleaning and maybe heavier weathering, the grey is my try for a walk way at the side, 4mm scale.
  21. Alligators from Shapeways, another photo from Saturday.
  22. Plant City had its first outing yesterday at the Crawley US show, all performed well with some interesting conversations, pre opening photo, was quiet busy for a specialist show, will be replacing my mail boxes with some very nice 3d printed items from Baztrains, who were at the show, an enjoyable day.
  23. Interesting comment, yesterday I was exhibiting at the Crawley US show, my layout, modern image has sound which I like at home, the layout opposite also had sound, steam and diesel, and yes I could not tell where the sound was coming from, my diesel was moving all I could hear was a steam sound, both our layouts had modest sound volumes.
