Thank you for your answers, I will give a Morley Vanguard a try.
-
Hi All, Does anybody use a Morley Vanguard controller on their layout? My old H and M controllers do not seem to cut the mustard any more and I was thinking of buying one to replace them. I have a twin track roundy roundy layout. Any comments? Best wishes, Paul

Hi All, Thank you for all your replies. the mumbling of "chuff chuff" seems the easiest option . Best of luck to those try the electronics option. Paul

Hi All, Does anyone know if it is possible to have sounds on an analogue engine. I was told it could be done, but I don't know how. I don't wish to go down the DCC rabbit hole, but it would be fun to have one engine that puffs along.

Hi Ade, Do they do a 7mm granite set roller? I have looked at the web site and the sets are 4mm size, OK for 4mm I guess. Paul

Thank you for your replies. I will try to make a cutter from an old paint brush. Best wishes, Paul

Hi all, I plan to have some track layed in cobbles or granite sets. I was going to press Daz air dried clay in between the rails and I need a tool to press into the clay to form the individual stones. What have people used, or thought of (but not used) that would suit me? Best wishes, Paul

Thank you for all your replies. I think I will go for about 3ft 6ins high and 2ft 6ins wide. Best wishes, Paul

Hi All, I am about to start building an O gauge layout in my new shed. I am 6ft 2ins tall and hate bending down too much if I can help it. My last layout was in the loft and had to be lower than I really wanted. I am thinking that 3ft 6ins to 4ft high would be fine for me, but I wonder how high other people have their baseboards at. Any ideas would be appreciated. Best wishes, Paul

I changed my bogies to Kirks southern bogies (£6 a set) and used Roxy wheels, although any 3ft 7in wheel would do. This was a cheap fix that brought the coach up to the level of my scale coaches. They didn't look too bad. I also changed the buffer heads to oval white metal, and added rubbing plates to the corridor ends. Best wishes, Paul

Thanks to everybody who has helped me with my project. I love the idea of using wood drills for the plasticard thanks for that Doilum. I think a D1 it will be, but I will check my books when I get back to England to choose the actual loco. Best wishes, Paul

Dear Jeremiah, You have really put the cat amongst the pigeons! When I get back to England I will measure the body against the drawings in the Southern Railway Engines and hopefully come up with the definite answer. Someone thought it was a D3 0-4-4, so lots to play for! Thanks for your input, Best wishes, Paul

Hi All, I have already e-mailed MSC models who used to have an E1 in their range but haven't had a reply yet. I will try Roxey Mouldings and ABS (if I can find who took them over). Thanks for the info. Mike and Nick. I enclose a picture of the body shell, and I confirm it has no cab splashers - yet. Best wishes, Paul

Thank you again for your help. Premier Components supply a LNER J83 chassis with 7ft 6in x 8ft spacing. ( E1 is 7ft 6in x 7ft 9in) so perhaps this might be a way forward. If anyone has any other ideas, then do please let me know. Best wishes, Paul

Thank you for replies. The idea of making my own chassis hadn't occurred to me. I have no tools for brass work but the idea of using 60thou plasticard seems up my street as I construct trucks, coaches and one engine body in plastic. Is there anything special I need to know to make a chassis out of plastic? Best wishes, Paul

Hi All, I have acquired a brass body for a SR E1 0-6-0T at the Guildford Trade Show. It seems very well built and I thought I would finish it off by getting it to run. I thought Premier Components would be able supply a chassis kit for me, but they don't produce one. I belive Meteor Models used to produce a E1/R chassis that I thought I could use but I can't find the company on the interweb. So, does anyone know :- 1. what is the wheelbase of the E1, 2. Does anyone know of a chassis kit I can use, 3. Does anyone have a suitable chassis for sale? Any help would be gratefully received. Best wishes, Paul

Hi All, Does anyone know what has happened to Premier Components? On June 5th I ordered a chassis kit for a GWR 2251 engine but am still waiting. The last time I spoke to Bill he told me he was making the chassis for me, but I have heard nothing, and I can't get through on the phone or open the web site. Any news would be great. Best wishes, Paul

Can anyone tell me the colour of ferry vans and opens. I have looked on Google and both dark blue and SR brown have been suggested. Any help would be great.

Thanks Mike, I've tried them but no luck, so I thought someone here might know. I guess I will just have to drill out the one in the kit. Best wishes, Paul

Hi All, Does anyone know where I can buy a brass chimney for a 7mm Q class loco I am building. I want the original chimney not the wide one. Best wishes, Paul
