Gilberdyke Modernisation (Real Railway)
penyghent replied to iands's topic in UK Prototype Discussions (not questions!)
postponed until December I heard, but don't hold your breath! -
so it could be right about the italics letters only being on hired wagons!
-
The LD wagons were the subject of a discussion last week. It was thought that the wagons with the LD letters like this one, were owned by the company, but those with LDECR in leaning backwards italics were leased. However, we don't know if this is fact or merely conjecture
-
Thank you Simon. As the author of this book I appreciate feedback like this it makes the months of work worthwhile. You will most definitely see the later volumes, volume 2 is complete and with the publishers, and I am about 90% there with volume 3, so look out for them
-
Sorry there are no close up wagon photos, indeed I have not seen many decent photos of LD&ECR wagons, just some distant shots showing those with sloping LDECR lettering. As for Brake Vans, again nothing sadly. Sorry I cant be of more help
-
Well what can I say? The light was on, the Instamatic was in good order and the coal cellar had been whitewashed! seriously I have no control over printing of the book so I can only say the only way to determine if they are up to scratch is to take a look inside one, perhaps go into Waterstones and see if they have one to peruse?
-
There is a reason for this. Volume 1 covers Chesterfield to Langwith, Volume 2 covers Langwith to Lincoln and was to cover the Mansfield Railway, however, due to reasons beyond my control I have had to strip out that section to allow as much as I can in Volume 2 about the LD&ECR. So, although it does state that Volume 2 will include it, the Mansfield Railway will now be in Volume 3, along with the Mid Notts Joint Line
-
This is an updated version with more text and different photos where ever possible. There is more about the collieries the line served and further info on branches. I have tried to make it different to the Blurb books but If you are not sure it will be available to browse in Waterstones Sorry mate I don't know that

Charles Roberts wagon manufacturer
penyghent replied to Tony Davis's topic in UK Prototype Questions
Painted many of these during my fund raising days for our group, used to get them donated as wagons were being cut up at Worksop. My method to clean them off.......chuck them on the fire, get it red hot and then pull them out to cool, after which I scrubbed them with a wire brush to remove all the crud, then dipped them in black paint and hung them up with old cycle spokes to dry, just like a load of bats hanging from the rafters! Once dry I then painted all the lettering and the edge with white paint, and sold em for £5 a piece on sales stands! Made quite a lot of money on them, but I wouldn't recommend my method to everyone! -
Rail workers or shunter man with high visibility orange
penyghent replied to class37418stag's topic in UK Prototype Questions
This is the early type of vest, then this was followed by this style this came later -
The reception lines and up and down sidings at Worksop are owned by DB Cargo, any company other than them wishing to use the reception lines has to pay an access fee. This causes problems at times when there is a failure on the main line and another company needs to recess their train for a while, as DBC insist on payment, and they don't want to pay!
-
There was a wagon turntable on the down side at Worksop East, which served the adjacent Maltsters off one of two sidings. I have a photo of a Class 47 on the siding with the turntable, the loco clearly having crossed it to get to the buffer stops. Don't know if that info helps or not!

if you go on this website https://wtp2.appspot.com/wheresthepath.htm you can see an old map on the left and a satellite view on the right, that shows where the station was

Can anyone now shed light on what the Class 92s exported to Romania and Bulgaria work?
-
I am just finalising an article about the Class 92s for Todays Railways UK magazine. I am wanting to know what freight services the class work nowadays. With access to TOPS I can find what the Caledonian Sleeper locos are doing so that's not a problem, however, the only working I could find for the DB Cargo ones today have been a Dollands Moor to Frethun working So my question is, what if any are the booked freight workings for the DB Cargo examples, and what booked freight workings are there for the GBRf examples? Any help appreciated

Speedlink Trunk Services through Tinsley 1985
penyghent replied to penyghent's topic in UK Prototype Questions
The first three books I did can be found here http://www.blurb.co.uk/b/4280589-the-lancashire-derbyshire-east-coast-railway http://www.blurb.co.uk/b/4691288-the-lancashire-derbyshire-east-coast-railway http://www.blurb.co.uk/b/3587630-40-years-of-sheffield-power-signal-box Newer and updated versions of my LD&ECR books are being published, the Volume 1 of which is available for pre-order through Amazon or Waterstones here https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lancashire-Derbyshire-East-Coast-Railway/dp/1781556288/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1498621573&sr=1-1&keywords=the+lancashire+Derbyshire https://www.waterstones.com/book/the-lancashire-derbyshire-and-east-coast-railway-chesterfield-to-langwith-junction-the-beighton-branch-and-sheffield-district-railway-no-1/chris-booth/9781781556283 Volume 2 is in the process of being designed, and there will of course be the book about Tinsley Marshalling Yard, hopefully sometime later this year! -
Speedlink Trunk Services through Tinsley 1985
penyghent replied to penyghent's topic in UK Prototype Questions
Sir, there was certainly no desire to hide behind anything, and I apologise if I upset you in anyway. I merely asked a question about some trains that ran into Tinsley there was nothing sinister about it and the fact that my profile shows nothing is merely because I choose not to put anything in there. The book about Tinsley has been on the cards and well discussed over the past two years, I think David was consulted at some point in the past anyway by my co-author. If you are really concerned about this, please either pm me Davids contact details and I will apologise to him in person, or I will pm you my email address and you can pass it on to David and ask him to contact me? -
Speedlink Trunk Services through Tinsley 1985
penyghent replied to penyghent's topic in UK Prototype Questions
Sorry about this, the question regarding the trains was to complete a list of services for inclusion in my forthcoming book about Tinsley Yard, I dont have any contact details for David to enable me to contact him, however I will acknowledge his help in the book. As for my profile, I have interests in all things railway, and am a prolific article writer with three books to my credit, and another three in the process. -

Oooppps thought so! But I didn't get an answer then, maybe someone will know now? -
This may have been asked before, but does anyone have a Speedlink timetable for 1985, specifically showing Route 2, North East to South West? I am looking for the headcodes for the following two services that called at Tinsley in 1985 21.55 Tinsley to Tees Yard which ran on Monday to Friday 01.30 Tees Yard to Tinsley which ran on Tuesday to Saturday can anyone help please? Thanks in advance
