Hi David, some great photos you are sharing on here, the one at Oldcotes (J1608) is of particular interest as it is about a mile from where I live and is part of the route to Firbeck Colliery. I walk my dogs along the site of the colliery sidings at the end of the line each day. This photo is the first I have seen of that section of line and I wondered if I may use it in a book I am planning to do please? Regards Chris

I would like to ask if you ever photted the Longport to Worksop Sand trains passing Shirebrook, or indeed anywhere between Longport and Worksop? That's right Mike, the photo I am captioning is of the train passing Langwith Colliery Junction, heading towards Creswell & Welbeck, it will then pass Clowne south and Spinkhill etc before gaining MR metals at Beighton Jn, then turning left towards Woodhouse Junction!

That will be the one, the photo is a Class 37 with headcode boxes which did run via Clowne South and Killamarsh, the shadows on the photo would indicate an afternoon shot so you may have hit the nail on the head there! Thank you

Can anyone help me with a query about a train headcode from around 1964? I have a photo of a Class 37 hauling 7M49 along the Beighton Branch of the LDECR around 1964. That's all the info I have on it but I would like if possible to know what the train was? I expect it would have originated at either Whitemoor, or Mansfield Concentration Sidings, and would be heading via Langwith Junction and Beighton Junction to Sheffield, and maybe over the Woodhead Route? It is pre Tinsley so I don't think it could have gone there Anyone have a WTT for the Sheffield area for 1964 ear? Any help appreciated

will probably be writing an article about them at some point, so all information regarding their performance from a drivers perspective is helpful. I have read about their propensity for sitting down if they don't like the amount of leccy in the lines!

Just compiling a feature about the Brighton to Portsmouth West Coastway and am just looking at Southbourne station. Looking on Google earth I see that there is a brick signalbox style building adjacent to the station. This is the premises of Strawberrysoup who claim that their “Chichester studio is in a converted Signal Box on Southbourne Station”. The question is, is this really a converted signalbox, because I have my doubts? Anyone know?

There are photos of this depot when new in the NRM Liverpool Street photo collection. They are not digitised but you can view them on request, and take photos of the photos for your research, if you want copies they are expensive....trust me I know! You would have to look in the Liverpool Street collection files at the NRM then order the boxes of prints you want to look at, its a long winded process but may come up trumps for you. I looked at them all a few months back and may be able to give you pointers as to which boxes to order if you are interested in viewing them.
