  1. C&L and SMP flexitrack is much more realistic looking than Peco, although it is rather flimsy and not as robust.
  2. Thanks for all your replies. My layout is EM, so will that help a little in preventing buffer lock? ie. less side to side wheel slop than OO. "What I do is crop near 2mm off the pockets, and ditto from the coupler tails, such that the 'bumper bar' of the Bachmann miniature tension lock is in the same plane as the buffer heads." That sounds quite interesting, I had thought about using the Bachmann tension lock couplings, but try and get them to couple closer.
  3. I'm considering using some 3 link couplings on rakes of mineral wagons which will not need uncoupling very often, to give a more realistic closer coupling. Can these links just be hung on the standard coupling hooks of Bachmann and Hornby wagons without any modification? Also, the tightest curve on my layout is a short 28" radius, is this too tight, and cause buffer locking?
  4. Many thanks for all your replies, informative and helpful.
  5. So locking would apply to passenger trains only? and points in goods sidings would not require locking?
  6. I did a seach on this but could not find exactly what I was after. Would locks be used on all facing points, On a single line branch would not every point at some stage be a facing point, so would they all need to be locked, or would it be required only on points where actual passenger trains ran over? Would they be needed on points where very slow speeds would be used, ie. those on a station run round loop, goods/coal sidings etc? My layout is a small single branch terminus BR(M) Manchester area 1959-60.
  7. Thanks for all your replies. I think either of those ideas is the way to do it.
  8. I've seen a Smart Models small terrace shop that would be ideal for my layout. How do these kits compare with Scalescenes? I have downloaded some Smart Models brick papers, but they did not seem quite as authentic as Scalescenes brickwork. I also would need to build it in half relief, I assume this is possible like the Scalescenes kits?
  9. My fiddle yard consists of a very short (21") 3 track traverser, would that serve as a programming track?
