  1. Finished at last My version of the Collett 8 wheeled tender in 00 using my 3D printed chassis, Gibson wheels and a Hornby tender top. Just need to change the identity of the loco pulling it. This was to be my fourth test print of the chassis in WSF material before printing in the smoother but more expensive FUD but the finish is not too bad so I think I will settle for this. I've tested it through PECO small radius points and it will go round them but it is necessary to take it carefully when travelling in reverse. I've not tested it around a setrack point yet. I will probably release it for sale on my Stafford Road Models page on Shapeways once I have tried pushing/pulling some stock with it.
  2. I have been after a Mailcoach Monster with a view to 3D printing the alternative inside framed sides but to no avail. I also needed some of their American Bogies for a number of projects. However I have now given up with the bogies and developed my own 3D printed ones which I sell on Shapeways (see below) and https://www.shapeways.com/shops/stafford_road_model_works?=sem&=gp&=International_Search_Branded_Shapeways&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&gclid=EAIaIQobChMInLXRysO_2QIV5p3tCh0mpgHLEAAYASAAEgJeTPD_BwE The only downside to this is that a 3D printed item is more expensive that the injection moulded version once the tooling costs have been recouped. Given the success of my 3D printed Siphons (to replace the unobtainable Ks kits - see below) I might have a go at a monster once I have finished my Siphon J. The only thing is I must give some priority to finishing my layout!
  3. I've just replaced a set of Mk1 bogies on one of my LIMA Siphon G with a Collett 7' that I have developed and 3D printed. The photograph below shows a compression between the new bogies (left) and the original (right). If anyone is interested it is now available from my Shapeways under my Stafford Road Model Works page. https://www.shapeways.com/product/SUT5JRGJW/gw-7-collett-bogie-lima-fit?optionId=64877661
  4. @ Bishop of Welchester Very well done especially for smoothing out the dome and boiler (mine are still in undercoat awaiting handrails. Can you tell me if you used a Hornby or Dapol Chassis and were you able to use the original body fixing screw down the Chimney or have you replaced this? Also can you tell me where you obtained your whistles? Cheers Steve
  5. My third test print came today bit still not quite right so am working on a fourth. Main issues are that it sits a little too low and the tops of the springs disappear under the body valence.
  6. My second attempt fitted with Gibson 14mm wheels. The frames have also been modified and springs added though a little more work is needed on these to get them looking right. I've just made some changes to the electronic model to hopefully take out some vertical slop at the rear, lowered the body by about 0,5mm and raised the coupling pocket by 1.5mm. I have now uploaded to Shapeways and have ordered my 3rd test print in WSF plastic (a bit grainy but cheaper than the others). If this fits I'll print a final version in Frosted Ultra Detail and release it for sale on my Shapeways "Stafford Road Model Works" page
  7. This is the start of my attempt at modelling the GWR 8 Wheel Tender 00 by 3d printing a new chassis for the Hornby 4000g tender as fitted to their ex-Dapol castles. The above photo was a test print to see if I could get the chassis to fit the body. Sadly it sits lower at the rear while the whole is too high and the wheels seem too close together. Thanks to the above drawings I think I realise my mistake with the wheels and overall height in that I ysed the original tender wheels which are about 2mm to large!
  8. 58XX is excellent can't wait for the 48XX
  9. Wrexham Library used to have copies of the OS 1:2500 (or whatever the imperial equivalent was) which has quite a bit of detail. This was my main source for Chirk. But I would recommend The Glyn Valley Tramway by WJ Milner as this provided the info for my version of Glyn.
  10. I have been gradually building a model based on the GVT for some years. On one side of the room is Glyn Ceiriog while the other will be a very simplified Chirk. So thanks to this thread I have nearly all the outstanding info I need to complete (Though it will take a few years yet to finish! However, can anyone tell me what colour was the base of the GWR signal box. Photo's suggest it was brick and I understand it was a Makenzie-Holland box. Photos of Gobowen North seem to show a redish brick. but others in the area suggest a brown. Any help would be appreciated
  11. A test of one of my 6'4" bogies under a Triang Composite sadly I haven't got the pivot pin quite right and the bgie is too close to the end of the coach so have just had to order another test print . The foot board supports are also too thin on the others so I will have to beef them up
  12. Heres one I made earlier based on a Hornby Kit The second is one I hope to produce by 3D printing. The image below shows the 3D virtual model so far
  13. Unfortunately the release of the 6'4" bogies has been delayed my test prints just didn't look right as the springs were too short. I have now fixed his (fingers crossed) and am awaiting delivery of the test prints along with the GWR 10' bogie. However, before putting it up for sale I think it only fair that I should assemble one of each and make sure the wheels, bearings and couplings fit etc. I have produced two versions, one with running boards and one without Hope this helps and sorry for the delay
  14. There are quite a few differences between the two. Firstly the Collett frames are deeper and the Churchward tender has coal plates on the side only whereas the Collets wrap around the back like the 4000g version. As an aside has anyone dismantled a Bachmann Earl. If so does the cab, boiler and smokebox come off cleanly (ie. no smokebox saddle left on the footplate as I am considering using a modified Dapol City boiler to produce a Bulldog from one of these.
  15. After some problems with uploading to Shapeways I have now finished my 6'4" bgies and taken delivery of the first prints. I try to paint assemble them over the week end and check their dimensions. If OK I'll release them on Shapeways through my Stafford Road Model Works (SRMW) shop. As there is an offer on prototyping this weekend I may try to run up some 10' versions if my wife doesn't have too many jobs for me!
  16. Thanks for the info about printing. In my case SRMW stands for "Stafford Road Model Works" I Chose the name because the first print I was working on was a GWR 517 which were built at the Great Western's Stafford Road Works in Wolverhampton and I couldn't think of anything else. I'll try to remember to use a more unambiguous description in the future. Regards Steve
  17. Shapeways prices have got very high since Brexit and the drop in sterling. Somewhere in my box of bits I have the remains of a long clerestory brake with some minor scratches on the side which I intend to re-spray into plain brown If I can find all the bit's I will need some 10 foot bogies so will probably run some up eventually. At the moment I am working on the 6'4" bogies by shortening my 7 foot ones but not sure if they look quite right. Although It may e a while until I test print them and try them against a drawing I will probably have them up on the SRMW site by tonight so please have a look and let me know where I might have gone wrong.
  18. Probably too late to be of anyone posting here but I've 3D printed at least to variant of this syphon. I have two built Ks versions and one unbuilt kit, but need around nine. The models built from my 3D print are shown below, but thanks for the numbering info. In my Kit the chassis and roof are common to both. I am also thinking of doing a high roofed version once I can find the drawings.
  19. Probably too late to be of any use but here is a project I am working on. An "Old Slow Coach (face removed) and fitted with an interior and bogies (Dean 7') I printed using Shapeways which are now available for sale on that website under Stafford Road Model Works I am also using one of the Hornby composites to make a GWR style camp coach (this will use my 8'6" version of the same bogie and a 3D printed interior. I may also produce an underframe detail to replace the rather bulky Triang/Hornby version particularly as the camping coach I am basing mine on seems to have the gas tanks removed. Regards 81E
  20. Many thanks for the advice about the Star Wiring - I'll probably attack the star with my new soldering iron this bank holiday!
  21. I am currently looking or an alternative name for one of my Railroad Adderley Halls. My layout is set on the Shrewsbury - Chester Line so am probably looking for a Wolverhampton Division Loco. I already have Kinlet, Ketley and Trinity Halls (Hornby and two Bachmann). I think I have a couple of alternatives, but wanted to give some warning about these Railroad Halls. As I wanted a large tender I thought I could simply achieve it by swapping with a Hornby 4000g tender from a Star (Glastonbury Abbey). Thankfully I thought I'd hitch up the tender to test run before fitting DCC chip only to find a short. To my dismay I have discovered that Hornby wire their Hall and Star tenders differently. This was also confired when I tried the 3500g tender from my Knight of the Grand Cross.
  22. I just hope they are released soon (but not until October as I have two on pre-order and need to save up as the central heating boiler and fridge just died!
  23. My thought was to make a so called version that doesn't need bearings at all. I've assumed uploaded the 3D model and will need to print before it goes on sale, but that will probably be in a months time when I get paid from real job. This will also give me time to re-do the version that needs bearings. Below is a preview:
  24. Thanks for the info (and photos. I have to admit I base the appearance on someone else's long out of production kit as I needed a match. However I have been thinking of making a version that doesn't need brass bearings so I'll use 57XX's photo to update the model. However, it may be some time before they are available as I will need to print them successfully myself before Shapeways lets me put them up for sale
  25. For what it's worth I've just created and 3d printed some American Bogies. Two variants one Lima fitting the other Airfix/Hornby Hornby Lima
