  1. Thanks to the advent of 3D printing I've made some interiors and replacement bogies for these. I may get round to the gas cylinders and other details eventually"
  2. I've just made GWR & LMS chassis using Shapeways 3d printing service but just need to check, should the solebars be fluted (i.e. I section or flat?
  3. I eventually received delivery of my final print. The fit on the body is a bit tight but it works (see below). The next stage was to start modifying the chassis and add handrails and find some suitable whistles. I have now drawn up two open cabbed versions (Belper and round topped fire box versions) and am awaiting delivery of these. Their Shapeways computer generated images are shown below:
  4. I am currently attempting to 3d print a 517 body for the Hornby/Dapol 14XX chassis There was some problem with my first two attempts so when I thought I'd resolved the problem I printed half of the body so see where I needed to make improvements. The result is promising so I've ordered a print of the complete body. I will try to upload some photos if I can find out how!
  5. I've designed a body shell for the Hornby 14XX which is broadly based on Fair Rosamund in her final condition. It is currently available from Shapeways as a BETA print as I have yet to try the final version on the chassis. I am currently awaiting what I hope will be the final test print.
  6. I started my 009 layout before PECO made their "mainline" track so I used n gauge PECO setrack for some of it. I have to admit it doesn't look too bad for the GVT. It also meant that I could have 9" radius points (I think the 009 crazy track are now only available in 12". Also I could use the ordinary n gauge catch pointrs without them looking too odd. The transition between the two systems of track is also disguised by the use of a level crossing.
  7. Strickly speaking this one has been modelled before by Airfix, them mainline then Dapol and Hornby. However, I will look forward to this as my Hornby ones do not run well after converting to DCC and might even replace both of them.
  8. I also use PECO n gauge setrack (as in my profile picture!) for the coal loops where I wanted tighter radius points (Crazy track are 1ft radius whereas setract are 9 inch). Looking at photos of the GVT the setrack sleeper spacing seems a close match than crazy track. However, I may try the new mainline track for a planned extension. As to the gauges of the Baldwins both te Glyn Valley and Snailbeech & District had to have their re-gauged (2' 4.5" and 2' 4")
  9. I have three of these built from GEM kits and Farish 08 Chassis (WDLR, S&D and GVT) none of them run well, so I will be eagerly awaiting these. As you can probably guess from my photo if I get one it will be straight into the paint shops - just hope I can still line things!
  10. I first became interested in the area in the early to mid 1980s when I read the books by Harry Paar. This culminated in a walk around most of them from 20th August 87 to the 22nd (which also took in the the disused railway from Lydbrook Junction to Tintern, although we did not attempt the Serrage Junction to Lydbrook
