  1. Hi there, looks like a great idea for a new product, I'm sure the 4mm folks will be interested too. I'll see what I can do, cheers Alan
  2. Thanks for the feedback Robin and nice to meet you at the Hornby show! I'll have a think about how to improve the finials as we discussed.
  3. Hi Stephen, I'll get a selection of sample 2, 4 and 7mm lamps in the post to you today (EDIT - will be tomorrow as they still need to cure!). The 4 and 7mm versions are hollowed out for LEDs, I'd appreciate any feedback on sizing if you feel they need some adjustment. Are Adlake No22 / LMS lamps of any interest also? Cheers Alan
  4. Unfortunately these are screen captures, the scanner captures texture and colour as well as the 3D Mesh. At whatever point 3D printing in colour becomes good enough for smaller scales I hope to be able to print them in full colour. In the mean time, I hope the screen captures serve as a useful guide for painting.
  5. Development Update - September 2016 Just back from a good weekend at ExpoEM North, with a few new ideas and scans for new products. I'll post periodically about what items are on the development workbench. At present it includes the following: L&Y Platform Lamps - in development / samples at Scaleforum A commission for the L&Y society, these were a bit of a gamble to print but have come out really well. The next step will be experimenting with laser glazing and printing the column in two halves, to allow for threading of wire/fibre optic. GWR Concrete Pot Sleepers - in development / samples at Scaleforum Designed to fit C&L 2 bolt chairs. I'll be looking at template guides for placing these, for OO/EM/P4 spacing. The 3D Scanned 2 bolt chair is for illustrative purposes only. Goods Guards - ready for sample / On Sale at Scaleforum Thanks to Richard who I met at ExpoEM North this weekend, I now have 5 new goods guard poses, suitable for brake vans and natural poses in the yard. New Lamps - awaiting edits / On Sale at Scaleforum New lamps which will be ready for Scaleforum this weekend include: LNER Tail Lamp (later BR Eastern version) Battery Tail Lamp Mk2 Manchester Ship Canal Industrial Loco Lamp Adlake & GWR Semaphore Lamps
  6. Nothing on the horizon for the time being sorry Jeff! You could always get a few young family members to a show to be scanned in bunking poses I'll get the L&Y development finished soon, which will include looking at glazing and possible illumination, then I should be able to push on quite quickly with other types of lamp
  7. Hi all, I've been on the forum a few years posting about my Oswestry Works project, which ultimately inspired me to start my own business Modelu, providing 3D printed detailing parts and 3D scanned people as figures. The figure range has been created with assistance from volunteers at the Llangollen and Severn Valley railways, along with 'Big Jim' and some of his colleagues at Colas Rail. Poses are created using 3D scanning and DLP 3D printing. The range is steadily expanding and I'll keep this thread updated with new developments. Figures are available in scales from 2mm up to 16mm scale and any variations in between, for those that model other than the predominant UK based scales. I also provide a scanning facility for custom figures at Exhibitions - take a look at the exhibition diary if you'd like to see scanning in action, or have one done yourself! Detailing components include loco, tail and side lamps, loco detailing parts and point rodding in 4mm and 7mm scales. The range is available via the website shop and includes the following figures: Loco Crew Signal Men & Railway Workers Bus Drivers Modern Image (Available end of Sept 16) New Products Sept 16 - more info - SR Tail and Side Lamps - BR Tail and Side Lamps - GWR Tail and Side Lamps Products in Development - LNER Tail Lamps (end of Sept 16) - Battery Electric Mk2 Tail Lamp (end of Sept 16) - GWR Signal Lamps (end of Sept 16) - LMS/Adlake Lamps (end of Sept 16) - GWR Platform Lamps (early 2017) - L&Y Platform Lamps (early 2017) Thanks for looking!
  8. Hey Steve, did you ever see these Only taken me a year!
  9. Hello Jeff! Thanks for persevering with the thread, I can't believe it has been a year since my last update... that time has flown by. So brief update, since I last posted in August 2015 I've been expanding the range, currently stands at about 60 figures now, loco crew, signalmen, modern image crew, railway staff, also loco and tail lamps, signal finials and lots more to come. It has taken 100% of my time, BUT, I am about to start making time to dust of Oswestry and set about working on it again. Next March I'll be giving another CAD beginners course at Missenden Abbey modellers weekends and I'm going to use some aspects of the Works model as examples - that gives me something relevant for the course and also gets things moving! The other plan is to ultimately donate the diorama to the Cambrian Museum at Oswestry, which changes the scope of the project slightly. I'm now minded to model all 12 roads again, along with the machine shop. The model will have a see-thru roof and see-thru south east elevation. A working traverser with the arduino may have to come later (probably much later!). I'm probably getting too far ahead of myself, considering nothing has moved for getting on for 2 years, but I also fancy a much smaller footprint 7mm version, say 3 roads worth of the erecting shop, to model to a much higher level of detail. We'll see - the priority though is to get the 4mm version built.
  10. Looking good Stephen. You might be interested in some GWR signal lamps that I've scanned, I'll be producing them similar to the loco lamps with seperate lenses. I'll also look at doing hollowed out ones for illumination.
  11. Hi Dan, It indeed is and I have started doing just that Some of the loco crew needed hats (52,53,54 & 55). I've also swapped heads around on a few where people have requested it. I can do this to order, but I'll have to think on how practical it is.
  12. Hi Ian, It's always nice to see the results of my figures when painted, you've done a nice job on these. Looking at the original scan it looks like the scan itself did not have a lot of facial detail. For future figures I'm looking at rescanning the head and shoulders separately as this will allow for a much higher resolution face. The scanner captures about 2 million triangles in the bounding box of the scan, so when you only scan the head and shoulders you are getting all 2 mill of triangular detail in that area. Then it is a short edit job to marry the head & shoulder scan onto the full body scan. That's the theory! I'll see how it works out in practice with the next installment of figures. Alan
  13. Yes just the RAW modifications, which are required as the camera itself provides no post processing like with JPG's. It was hand held and that Pannier was running round at a fair lick so thankfully the settings were enough not to get any motion blur.
  14. Thanks both, I was at Llangollen on the Friday as well and wasn't happy with the photos I took so I spent a bit of time tinkering with the settings on my return on the Sunday. The sun being out helped of course, but these two photos were taken as follows (please note I'm a beginner so I may very well be doing things wrong/long winded!) - Shooting in RAW - Manually set the aperture to f/11 and let the camera work out the shutter speed using 'Aperture Priority Mode' - Set ISO max to 200 as on the Friday I'd found auto ISO was using higher settings with more grain and less vibrant colour - In Lightroom adjusted the shadows, blacks and whites to bring out detail in the darker areas (across the whole image, not in specific areas)
  15. A couple of my favourites from the fantastic 'Along Cambrian Lines' gala at Llangollen last weekend. GWR 6400 Class No.6430 & BR Standard Class 4MT Tank No.80072 GWR 7800 Class Manor No.7820 'Dinmore Manor'
  16. Great idea exporting into AutoCAD. Using tools such as offset I'd imagine to get those nice parallel runs of the rodding. Now for a plugin to be designed which tells you how many/where cranks and compensators need to be!
  17. Really liking your CAD drawings, do you mind me asking what you are using?
  18. I'd be up for giving these lower profile roller assembly's a try, I've just finished the artwork for the BR pattern frame and these look quite straight forward. There won't be much to them though so might need some elements scaling for them to be robust enough.
  19. Glimpse of sunshine at Bridgnorth during the Manor 50 event. GWR 7800 Manor Class No.7802 'Bradley Manor' at Bridgnorth
  20. GWR 7800 Manor Class No.7812 'Erlestoke Manor' and No.7802 'Bradley Manor' at Bewdley for the Manor 50 event
  21. I've had the pleasure of pointing the camera at two superb models, Geoff Taylor's Barmouth Junction featuring Tom Foster's stock for his forthcoming Cwm Prysor. Credit goes to them for such amazing modelling!
  22. You still hear the 97's shooting past LE doing ERTMS training from time to time - I live a little further up the line between Caersws and Pontdolgoch. How about doing Scafell Halt and traces of the old siding to the Penstrowed quarry
  23. Lovely afternoon sun in Bridgnorth box as Sir Keith Park departs
  24. I'll be redeveloping a few of these poses Jeff for the range proper, these were a first attempt with the Llangollen and SVR lads to see what we could come up with. Much more to come soon!
