If you like the idea of drilling and gluing (see above), then have a look at EDM Models at the link below - 1:48 instead of 1:43 but as they are so small I don't suppose the scale difference will matter much !!

Model Railway Club Committee meeting Monday at 7pm - I arrive about 10 minutes early to find everyone else there and much laughter. I had completely forgotten that for the first time, the meeting had started at 6pm as the secretary had another meeting to go to later that evening so I was only there for about 20 minutes. When I worked at the University, I was usually the minute taker for a number of committee meetings and so I was always there in plenty of time.

Sounds just like those here in UK - at the one near us, the Lindt shop is directly opposite to the Cadbury outlet so two chocolate shops to tempt us. As The Q says, The Works is one of the very few shops I go to. When working and needing "smart" shoes, they all came from the Clarks shop. They have now opened the UK's largest Nike store so that's another one to avoid.

And me - financial year end at the end of October and AGM at end of November so not much time to "cook the books" . . . . .

I have for the last three weeks been attempting to open a saving account. Firstly can't do that in a bank it has instead to be done online. So online it is. Wade through the requirements of what month was your grandmother born, where did you live forty years ago and so on etc etc- you get the drift. Anyway finally get to the bit with how much money do you wish to donate to our pyramid scheme only to be told I need a card reader.
Sorry to hear that - I have used online banking with Lloyds for about five years now and a few weeks ago I was able to open a savings account with just a couple of mouse clicks and no need for a card reader. Lloyds don't use those for personal accounts but I do have a card reader for the Club account. However I recall having to use one with Nationwide when I had an account there. After opening the account, I immediately got an email with the new account number and an invitation to transfer money - all done in about five minutes.

A few months ago a Tesla undertook me on the junction between the M42 and M25 and nearly took my bonnet off
I hope you always had a navigator when you were flying - on my map the junction between the M42 and the M25 is called the M40. I assume "fat fingers" on a small keypad are to blame 😃
Changing the subject - I assume all is well at the Midland Railway Study Centre - unlike the ground floor of the

It's possible someone has used / is using your address fraudulently - happens a lot
Even Companies House don't check any identification to create a Limited Company - see the BBC link below where one person who appears to be of Chinese origin has set up a number of false companies using 16 addresses all from one street in Worksop.

When it was first announced (March 2022), the Bachmann "Model Collect Create" shop at Hinckley was said to be following the Games Workshop store experience
QuoteMCC will also be introducing a series of workshops and demonstrations through the year, while there will also be a children's craft and play table in-store to keep younger visitors entertained
The aim of the store is to get people to put down their screens and create something amazing using the products on offer and expert advice on hand. This is a store for all members of the family to enjoy, with products for all ages and abilities.
https://www.keymodelworld.com/article/Bachmann-launches-first-retail-store-hinckley-leicestershire
However when I look at the Bachmann site for a list of retailers, it isn't mentioned - so either they haven't updated the list recently, or it has closed - any one know any more ??

A quote from the BBC link shown on the previous page
Mr Waterman said he hoped to break a world record at the event next year.
51 minutes ago, JSModels said:That's for the NEC show, not MK - they're going to extend it by another 70 feet or so (and that was from Mr Waterman directly).
With an additional 70', it wouldn't fit in the MK venue!
In that case, I apologise but . . . . the BBC report says "at the event" which to me meant GETS as that was the show being discussed in the report. No mention whatsoever of NEC.

It’s a dying hobby don’t you know with an aging audience 😉It’s rather difficult among all the worry about shows losing audience . . . .
Our "village hall" event a couple of weeks ago had double the attendance from last year - and many of them were young families with children in tow - and they got in free of charge.

Thanks to Google and Wikipedia . . . . An ornithopter is an aircraft that flies (or not) by flapping its wings.

. . . . . . funerals black tie
With me it was 25 years whilst working for Lloyds and to start with when I worked in the offices at the University. However it soon became clear that I was in a minority and so I left the jacket at home unless I was in a meeting that included the Uni Executive but even then many didn't bother. I recall the Head of the Law School wore a black t-shirt and black jeans every single day - presumably he changed into clean clothes every now and again. When we had a staff social after work, someone said it would be "smart casual" and one young lady in the office explained to me that it meant that I didn't have to wear my tie !
Talking of ties, I refuse to wear a black tie and white shirt at a funeral as I don't want to be mistaken for one of the undertakers.

With that in mind it would be worth thinking about what the actual purpose of the big shows is for big clubs: is it the profit fed back into other club activity (I don’t know how much these shows “make” or how the profits benefit the clubs); or, is it the “social service to fellow hobbyists”, creating places for people to meet, share, and enjoy themselves?
Profit.
After running the successful Derby show at the Assembly Rooms we were able to buy our clubroom from the local authority. We continued to run our exhibitions with the surplus going into a "building fund", moving from the Assembly Rooms to Moorways sports centre and then the Derby Roundhouse until that venue was closed due to covid. A surveyors report on our building (post-war prefab concrete framed building) said that it wasn't in danger of imminent collapse but had a limited life - even though every show made at least £2,500, we are still nowhere near the estimated sum of £200,000 we need !!

An amazing amount of detail in a small space and a prize-winner at the Gauge O Guild exhibition last month - well deserved and perhaps helped by the layout team handing out voting forms and pens !!😀

By coincidence, it was the Mickleover Exhibition last weekend as well - over 500 visitors to our clubroom and the Community Centre which was the old Victorian School on the main road through the village.

Usually the first full weekend in October so it looks like the 6th and 7th next year.
Almost right Richard - but you forgot about the extra day in February - so my diary says the 5th & 6th October - I hope that's correct as we have had 5000 flyers printed and gave out 500 of them at the weekend 😃😃

Thank you I was really annoyed I missed it, Is the Derby Freemo group attached to the club.
One of that group is also a member of our club - and was also part of the organising team for the show. Obviously I can't give out information here but if you PM me with your contact details, I will pass that on to him so that he can contact you.
Are you also aware that the NMRA will be in Derby 20-22nd October at the London Road Conference Centre. Freemo HO is mentioned on the layout page in the link below but I don't know if it will be the same group that came to our show.

Good results Mike, especially as your attendance was probably diluted by another show in our area on the same weekend 🙂
Agreed - I see that Richard went to the other show in the morning with his video camera and came to us in the afternoon . . . . .

We don't visit that often as there is little we need they'd have,
I visited "The Range" a few days ago and they had a poster in the Gents showing the shop opening times and so I thought " I know you're open because I'm standing here" - but at the bottom of the poster it had the slogan "If we don't sell it, you don't need it" - so since when did they start selling trains ??

Another 220 adults through the door yesterday so with the children we can say that we had at least 600 visitors over the weekend which isn't bad for a "Village Hall" type of show with16 layouts and only one of those wasn't from our own club. The attendance was the best we have had since lockdown and shows that if you get the advertising right, you will attract both enthusiasts and a lot of newcomers who when asked said that it was their first visit. There were also several enquiries about club membership - with 72 on the books already, if we enrol many more it will be standing room only !!
Many thanks to the exhibitors and traders, plus of course all the work that goes on behind the scenes, the staff in the tea rooms (they also had record sales) and of course a big thank you to our visitors. To see what you missed look at Richard's video above.

Many thanks Richard - very much appreciated.
Our attendance for the first day was 298 adults and a lot of children (not counted as they were all admitted without charge). This was almost double last year although that was rather low due to exception circumstances. Hoping for another good day today . . . . . .

Another great photo Steve. As I said yesterday, it's strange seeing the layout and the amount of detail in such a small space when previously it's been seen on a large PC monitor.
Hope the Club has another successful day today as I think this will the first I have missed in about 40 years but for a change family comes first . . . . . .

Typical anti HS2 reporting by the BBC.
The property did not qualify for compulsory purchase. All subsequent events were down to him and nothing to do with HS2.
Copied below from the BBC report - so it wasn't just the house sale . . . . . . . . . .
" At the same time Mr Bardsley's business got into financial difficulty. He was forced to sell the property and his business folded within months. "

There was a long discussion back in 2010 about Cleminson where it was agreed that the Brassmasters version wasn't a true Cleminson design but for many modellers was good enough. What is missing is the way in which the separate axles are linked together, best illustrated in the model sold by Phil Traxson (Port Wynnstay Models) in the link below.
