  1. Hi guys,

Before Oxford announced their LHCS Mk3s I amassed a load of Lima Mk3s which I intended to modify into different types.

I plan on investing in Oxford ones for my LHCS ones but have decided to stick to Lima ones or Lima derived Hornby ones for my HSTs.

This thread is basically a place for you to see some of my botches!

First up today I had a crack at the NMT 977995 spare generator coach. This seems like it's one of the easier conversions as it's based on the TRFB/TRUB but with the buffet windows replaced with vents.

I cut the buffet windows out of the TRUB because I wanted to use those later on Hornby's RFM to make a TRSB.

Next I filled the area with some plasticard.

Next I took the buffet Windows and stuck them to the body with masking tape and marked their original position with a pencil. I then built up the vents with plasticard and styrene strip. They're more prominent than they are in real life but I reckon that in model form it makes them look about right.

    And cruel close up:

Let me know what you think! Happy modelling,

  2. That's great thank you. Presumably aside from 73s only the 57s and 67s can haul Mk3 DVTs? Or have the 37s been modified?

Making a Mk3 DVT from a cheap Hornby DVT should be straight forward enough so maybe I'll do with that.

What would a typical Plain Line Patter Recognition Train consist be please?

  3. Hi guys - the vast majority of my stock is from the late 80s/early 90s, but after spending 2 years commuting on the WCML recently I decided to get some more modern stock as well.

I wanted to create some sort of Network Rail rake hauled by a DRS class 37. I don't have the skill it takes to be able to make an RTOV, but all the photos I see online either show the train being top and tailed or with an RTOV.

Are there any common/representative formations with a loco at one end and no RTOV?

Also what are the NR Mk3 DVTs used for? I don't think I've ever seen them in service.

    Thanks in advance.

  4. ... I'd just seen a photo of Oxford MK3s which look pretty smart.

Photos look promising to me, but they're only doing loco hauled Mk3s at present. I'm sticking to Lima Mk3s for my HSTs for the moment.

Anyway would be good to see some more progress when you get a chance. Happy bank holiday!

  5. For me the biggest loss has been RBS in Long Eaton after the owner sadly passed a couple of years ago. I don't think it had been that long before that that I'd been in the shop chatting to him. I'm not even local to the area, but with the lack of any model shops anywhere near me in north Leeds and with me travelling a lot at the time I used to pop in whenever I passed by on the M1.

  6. I was in Pooley'a Puffers on Tuesday and happened to glance at s Dapol catalogue for what I believe was 2017. The Turbot is listed in there so surely it can't be cancelled?

  7. Where are you getting your Tillig points from please? And would you be kind enough to show a comparison shot between the Tillig and a Peco Code 75? I want to see if they would look ok if used together.

    Thanks!

  8. For the first time I have also modified some of the points to alter the angle at which the track leaves to allow the geometry to better suit the prototype.

Hi there. First of all let me commend you on your excellent work so far.

Would you be able to go into detail of how you modified your points please? And I noticed earlier on you had what looked like some Code 83 points as well? Do you have any close ups of how the appearance compares between the Code 83 track and the Code 75?

    Thanks very much.
