  1. Mmmmmmmm...... First the new BachmannV2 ‘it’s more accurate in detail than any V2 I’ve every built’, the Hornby teaks and the D16 ....
  2. Dear All, I’ve a rake of the Hornby Gresley Teaks and wondered whether to keep them, knowing their shortcomings but have decided that if they’re good enough (with a little bit of weathering) for Little Bythem, they’re good enough for any layout I’ll be making! regards Robert
  3. Tony, when my father (a pharmacist like myself) died of cancer I put a CRUK donation box in our pharmacy. He was well known in the community and we always had someone coming round to the back door as we lived on the premises for ‘emergencies’. So when he passed away it seemed appropriate to put a box out for donations. I wrote a little tribute and displayed a photograph of him with his grand-daughter. He’d worked and lived in the community for40years. Anyway some little s**t stole the collection box from the counter. Fortunately we emptied it quite regularly and managed to send off a sizeable donation. So please Tony keep an eye on your box. There are people out there with very low moral standards. Anyway happy modelling and keep up the good work. regards Robert
  4. Good evening, Perhaps you’re striving to create the perfect O2! regards Robert ps Blue Hunslet from Doncaster running a lot smoother, many thanks
  5. Sometimes I build something as quick fix to get my modelling mojo back and then I think the only thing that matters is I’m proud of what I’ve done. It might give me enthusiasm to get on with some a little more grand and relevant. regards robert
  6. Grahame, I have a cupboard full of such models most of them incomplete! l made a news year’s resolution to get some of them finished but if they’re not part of the master plan am I wasting valuable modelling time? Happy modelling, regards Robert
  7. I try to make/allow myself some time each day to do a bit of modelling, even if it’s only 20 minutes. (Armchair modelling is allowed!)Last night I continued a build of two Parkside hoppers while listening to my football team on the radio. Team lost to a late goal and firmly stuck in the relegation zone. Lights out and bed! Felt ok this today, when I looked what I’d done last night, it was passable. happy modelling Robert .
  8. Dear all, when I sand resin I do it in a bowl of water bringing the work to the surface from time to time to inspect progress. I know from my plastic modelling time sanding of resin has been a big issue. regards robert
  9. Sorry to but in on one of groups deliberations but a bit of information/advice please. I know it’s possibly not the most appropriate thread to ask on but can’t find the answer and I’m sure someone may be able to help. So here it is, does any one know if Tamiya do a spray can the is a good match for early BR freight grey. I’m always pleased with the finish I get with them. Alternatively do Halfords do a match, I know they do good matches for other railway colours? Regards Robert and happy modelling
  10. And here’s the only pet at our house, Sydney. (He’s not mine but stops for sleep overs regularly) He doesn’t have a favourite loco, he’ll happily chew on any of them!
  11. St. Enodoc, Here’s a photo of the only Eric that lives with the Hill family. He’s (Flat) Eric (Hill) and he’s showing you his favourite loco.
  12. Managed to get a bit of modelling done last night. Finished off these two Parkside fish vans. I use tension lock coupling as I don’t have a layout so my stock gets used on club layouts which uses them. Also in the photos is the Hornby Pecket which I’ve done some work on removing the NCB lettering and weathering. I know it’s not much but I have managed to get something done. So as I posted earlier, I stuck while the iron was hot and in the background is my next project, Parkside BR 21t hoppers. I think it’s time to come clean, my name isnt Eric, it’s ROBERT so happy modelling, Regards Robert
  13. Strike while the iron is hot, and get it painted and decaled! regards Eric
  14. The B3 wasn’t on my list of favourite locos, but after seeing your model it certainly is now! Wonderfully built and painted. I’ve got a fish engine to build somewhere, I might even get it out! happy modelling, regards Eric
  15. Dear All, Just to let you know (if anyone’s interested) I’ve finished the steeple cab loco from a couple of weeks ago. I’ve painted the wheels, weathered it, lettered it and added a light (courtesy of RT models.)
  16. Dear Tony, I’ve got the that issue of RM and automatically thought it was one of your kit built A4. It’s only when I look at the upward sloping slide bar that I recognise it’s origins. Im slowly ploughing through this thread and found it encouraging, however some of it has made me realise that some of my RTR stock is not quite as good as I thought. Anyway, most have been renumbered and all have been weathered so they are mine. regards Eric.
  17. Good evening everyone, (but especially Tony) Just read one of your posting featuring photos of some of your locos. I’m surprised that the picture from of RM wasn’t one of your kit built locos as I know your modelling preferences. Did you have any say in the matter? If it was me I’d have packed all the RTR stock well away! Happy modelling Eric
  18. I know from personal experience that layouts always work best on Sunday afternoon and at their worst Saturday morning. Quite often these days layouts are booked ‘not seen’ .This can be for a number of reasons including the layout is still on the drawing board! If a layout is of ‘good pedigree’ it’s likely to be booked before a wheel has turned. Layouts can been booked without being seen in the flesh, say from photos and video clips and edited to show the layout at its best. As the phrase goes ‘buyer beware’ Our exhibition, Barnsley, not a big one but we do try! sorry I’ve edited your message but I’m replying to this part in particular. Hope I haven’t abused any protocol. Happy modelling Eric
  19. When I’m involved with building a layout or booking one for an exhibition the first criterion is ‘does it run well?’Any visitor at an exhibition can tell if a layout runs well and most of them will be happy. Now if the layout runs well and is a great model everyone will be happy. Some people have talents in one of the modelling disciplines but not others. I suppose that’s why we join clubs or build layouts with our mates. Happy modelling Eric
  20. Does the owners/operators reputation proceed them?
  21. Hello everybody, Regarding the A2s that’s the reason I posted. I think the reason was there were too many detail difference s between such a small class. Anyway it’s only an opinion. regards Eric
  22. In the 80s I would buy Hornby and Lima models and repaint them as I could produce a better model. In the 90s I bought white metal kits of prototypes that weren’t available rtr, some of which I made. Though I enjoyed the projects, they seem crude when compared to the recent rtr release. I know the mantra is ‘it’s my model’ but with some respects I wanted something different. I seldom buy kits now as I know if I wait long enough a rtr model will turn up and will be infinitely better than what I can made. My wife grumbles when she buys something full price and sees it in the sale a week later. I tell her to wear it straight away so as to get the ‘benefit‘ of paying full price. In my stash I’ve still got another N5 and a J6 to make but I think I’d better get my skates on to get the ‘benefit’ I started buying and making industrial loco lately but even rtr models of them are starting to appear. Don’t get me wrong, I still do a great deal of modelling but not building loco kits. That’s enough for now, work to do and then perhaps some modelling later. regards Eric
  23. Sorry, and A2/3. Other ‘big models’ as well. regrards Eric
  24. Good Morning all, Have you seen Hornby have announced A2/2 and two versions of W1!!!!! Regards Eric
  25. Well you seem to have some tips to have ago at. I really hope you can get the models sorted. I’ve got some in teak and they are a really nice model. Good look and happy modelling. Regards Eric
