I suspect there's still some 'in use' ones out there, but with the logo painted over. Now you mention it, I am going to keep my eyes open for them.

Yes, I have seen one or two knocking about with the logos painted over (including one last night in a container stack) but to see them still fully branded is becoming a rarer sight.

  2. Just wondering when the last time someone saw a Hanjin box?

I only ask as up until 2 years ago when they went bust they were commonplace- Hornby even used one on their KFAs, but now very rarely seen.

For the first time in a while I happened to see a couple yesterday still loitering on the dock.

  3. I have 47710 waiting to have the same treatment done to it, but why bother now? 47706 purchased :) 47710 to now be resprayed as NSE 47708  :locomotive:

    Nice one Kernow :)

Way ahead of you mate, mine received the 'treatment' 3 years ago.

With the added bonus that a) It cost far less than this model. And b) mine has no NSE flashes, as that's how I saw it.

That said, it's one of the best 'off the shelf' paint jobs I've seen in 00.

It seems the larger retailers have a knack of picking subjects that I already have of late!

  4. Think its time Bachmann done another Class 47 in Revised Livery. One on the Bay is up to £200 with five days still to go

Do you mean this one? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152406558757?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT  It seems a mind blowing price to me.

And to think, I had two of them- who knew I was sitting on a small fortune...

One was weathered and the other became Kings Lynn (with more attention paid to details such as the prototypes lettering/numbering location than this blokes straight body swap and it's 'Cockney Robin'...) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/292007234418?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

  6. Without wanting to be too controversial, I've always felt that original EW&S livery sat very well on 37s, i find that picture more pleasing to the eye than the blue pair.

(Although i also prefer them in large logo than plain blue so it's nice to see that one did venture this far south)

Agreed, I also preferred the 37s in large logo over plain blue.

We had a few large logo 37s down here- a quick look at my 1989 Platform 5 combined volume states that the following machines were SF based.

37004/012/057/116/128/209/216 as well as 358 without yellow cab sides.

  7. As I was heading to Norwich today to catch a ride on the short sets (top and tail 37/4 to Great Yarmouth and top and tail 68s to Lowestoft today for those who don't know) I tried to take a picture of said GUV to post up on here.

Unfortunately, some inconsiderate decided to park two rakes of intermodal freight directly in line of sight... Nice to see it still there though.

  8. I agree, sometimes its the little things that have the greatest rarity value, I am sure an advert on Ebay/Autotrader/gumtree etc that the car was being broken up would have yielded some interest in some bits of it, to just scrap the whole car is a crying shame.

Unfortunately the guy could only keep the car on the truck for a finite time and had no where else to store it.

I also thought it a crying shame that the car couldn't be used as a source of spares. But it seems when advertised, people either couldn't be bothered or wanted something for nothing.

Why the guy didn't strip off the bright work or any other useable parts I don't know- I don't know him personally, it was just a friend of mine who was helping him recover the car. As I said, the owners club were contacted, but they poo-pooed the car, so it got weighed in for scrap.

  9. That's what airbrushes are for...!!

Exactly what I thought when bought my BoS 1/18 scale Rover P5b coupe.. I mean gold for Christ sake- why?

Now, for a tale of woe I'm afraid.

This sorry episode occurred around a month ago, with one of my friends being involved with the collection of a PA that had sat In situ for the last 30-odd years.

    post-18670-0-39051700-1479954251.jpg

Unfortunately, as a restoration project the car was just too far gone..

    post-18670-0-25063300-1479954490.jpgpost-18670-0-02973300-1479954626.jpg

But even if purely as a source of spares- surely someone would be interested? So after one interested party said that he was too far away from the car, the owner club were contacted.. I'll paraphrase, but I'm told that the conversation went along the lines of; 'We've recently acquired a (less rotten) car, thanks, but no thanks..'

Which lead to the inevitable sorry conclusion..

A sorry end for such a good looking car.

Ps. On a happier note, I saw the PA that I posted a short while ago drive past my house as I went to walk my dog- and it sounded in rude health!

  10. Trump will win because Clinton is even more unpopular than he is........... What a pair.

    Best, Pete.

It's just a race to the bottom.

Remind me, what's the first line to the Beatles song 'A day in the life'?

  11. On the subject of old Citroens and Vauxhall PAs, here's a couple that I've taken pictures of recently.

The PA lives around the corner from me, while I saw the DS around 6 weeks ago when I was walking our dog.

Finally, I spotted this Wolseley 6/110 over the summer that I believe has been repatriated.

  12. Might I express my indignation upon seeing that the class 312 gained more votes than the class 309. (160 votes verses 145)

And my complete incredulity as seeing that the 'misery box' that replaced both of the above, the class 321, managed to gain 159 votes.

One questions if those who voted were all born post 1990 and therefore too young to remember to former.

This all smacks of a left wing conspiracy to deny my plastic layout passengers a level of comfortable travel whilst they travel around in circles.

I shall, therefore, be writing to the Daily Mail forthwith to express my concern on this matter, which I find to be wholly unacceptable.

Yours, outraged from Essex.  xD

Ps. Thanks to the team for their efforts in carrying out the survey.

  13. Titan, when I said available for any one to buy, I didn't mean just from the small adds.

Top tip- If you know of a (classic) car, or see a car of interest why not try knocking on the door to inquire if it may be for sale? Or similarly, leave them a note?

You may be pleasantly surprised, especially if it's an older 'project'.

  14. Alas, some of the poorly informed and those lacking in direct knowledge wouldn't believe the amount of work that goes into getting some 'classics' just to turn a wheel on a banger track.

They may be rare, but a lot of them have been left to rot for too long as 'restoration projects' that are no longer of any use other than for spare parts- which many bangers yield anyway.

Further more, many banger drivers are classic car owners themselves, that put hours of work in to rotten shells to send them off with one last hurrah- not just mindless imbeciles intent on destruction for the sake of it.

Funny how people that collect old cars which are left to rot in a field until they're too far gone are seen to be eccentric. Yet paint a number on it, put it on a track and your perceived as a 'yobbo', especially by the snooty and ill informed.

All too often the 'tut tut tut brigade' raise their blood pressure to silly levels, bumping their gums and moaning about the waste and destruction of yet another classic. Yet said car was available for anyone to buy- so why didn't they bother to stump up their hard earned to save it? Quite frankly, put up or shut up!

You don't hear me moaning about those who wielded a gas axe to all those lovely Peaks that were scrapped in the 90's... Because by then they were acknowledged as being too far gone to be viable.

As I say. Often too far gone. They yield spares for other cars. And if somebody pays money for a car, surely what they do with it is their business.

  15. That's troubling to see, especially as it's your 3rd one Neil.

Seeing that, (and this isn't tongue in cheek) I'm glad I'm sticking to DC and don't have to contend with those issues.

Hopefully Bachmann can sort you out with a PCB that doesn't throw a hissy fit when given a chip that it was intended to receive...

  16. Having heard nothing but good things about Track-Shack, I thought I'd give them a try and ordered a class 47 from them yesterday afternoon.

Low and behold, shortly after 1pm today said loco arrived at my door.

Excellent service, and well done for using the Royal Mail, as had I not have been in it makes life so much easier to collect than with some couriers.

I will definitely be using them again.

  17. I agree with Izzy. I remember hearing the flood warning sirens (certainly in the 80s) although I can't remember when they finally went.

The good news lmsforever is that the 309s aren't quite extinct, as two 3 car formations are preserved at the Electric Railway Museum, Coventry.

Although the driving vehicles had their end corridor connectors 'trimmed' at some point after leaving the ER which means that they don't look quite right.

  18. Furthermore, if only they'd gone for 001 in post 1983 condition (with headlight) then they'd be able to use the far superior body they have as well.

    Conclusion; a needless 'pig's ear'.

  19. I can't believe Bachmann has realised 001 with those rivets- an error that was criticized 10 years ago.

Makes you wonder if the body is also going to wobble like it did on the 035 models as well! :scratchhead:

The window rivets combined with those tanks have convinced me that I do not want this loco, so that's saved a few quid.
