Well despite some people claiming that its been Christmas (my lack of presents suggests otherwise) I have managed to get a little modelling time in between the domestic chores (oh the life of a domestics slave ).
Anyway the modelling has been concentrated on the buildings that form street along the front of the layout and trying to get a little bit of interest by working on the roofs and adding my representation of slates, in N gauge.
I decided to make a start on one of the more unusual roofs (simple hipped roofs are better the one on the top of the corner pub, so I started by making th roof up as a sub assembly.
This way you can make adjustments more easily, without the actual building getting in the way, once its completed and I am happy with it, I think cover it in graph paper so that I have a reference point for adding strips of slates.
Then the fun of cutting and applying endless strips of slates begins, which believe it or not I actually enjoy, sometime later after drinking various amounts of booze and the occasional outburst of industrial language I had the below.
All I need to do know is add some paint and then get on with all the windows that are needed for the buildings so I better get a move on, I will have loads of modelling time once I have finished the, Ironing, Washing, Hoovering, Dusting, Shopping, Cooking, Washing up, Making the tea, Remaking the tea because it was not good enough....................Oh the joys of life

Brilliant thanks for the info, one more question (I sound like Columbo) but what is the min radius these chassis will negotiate?

I have even managed to get the first coat of paint added to the corner pub, my aim is to portray a typically grubby stucco face frontage, I am still working out what colour to paint the pub frontage.
I still need to work on a few areas, but I think its looking a bit grubby.
The big question is what name should adorn pub, but I think I will have lots of time to decide this

Well I did a little work at knocking together a shop interior, I think I may have to rethink this......
Thankfully I have not permanently attached these to the model, still it give me space for improvement, I suppose a good start would be to decide what the shop sells....I need help, perhaps I should call on the Domestic Overlord for assistance?

Well the front of some of the buildings have been given a coat of acrylic varnish to help seal the card and provide a base for the paint.
You know what this means, if I'm nearly at the painting stage, the Domestic Overlord will kill me, due to the inevitable mess, I can walk past B&Q and get covered in paint

Brilliant stuff - really coming along nicely and at a decent rate as well. Scalescenes have some good shop interiors/names/ideas which are downloadable and may help with the detailing.
Thanks for the tip, I might have a look.

A little more time has been spent on a couple of the buildings for Lugsdale Road, and I am getting near to the stage where I will have to think about making a start on all the windows.
I must admit I enjoyed using card on Foster Street, but did think for the next layout (Lugsdale Road) I would revert back to using plasti-card but so far card has been the material of choice and I'm happy with the results (nothing to do with the incredibly low costs, like I constantly say I'm not tight just prudent).
A few process pictures are as follows,
Thankfully the Tram obscures most of the building but this will eventually become a Public House, but as I keep telling the Domestic Overlord that in order to make a truly accurate model, I need to do some detailed research, preferably from the inside of some pubs, but so far this has not been successful
As my thought was to model a street that progressed at one end from a busy commercial area to more mundane terrace houses, so that means I needed some shops. The basics have been knocked up for a block of these, but there is still a lot more work to add to these, before I seal the card and then think about painting them (I have not even thought about what businesses they will be the Domestic Overlord can decide this).
What this means is I am starting to get an impression of how board 1 will look as construction progresses, I think for the moment its looking balanced, but trust me I will do something to ruin this

I took delivery today of two more of the old Typhoo trams, so many projects to work on, so little time

Can you tell me what chassis you used for the Typhoo tram conversion, as I am considering motorising a couple of these myself?
Thanks

Well I think I'm happy with the plan for the urban setting on board 1, I even got a chance to use my felt tips and some of the colouring is even behind the lines.
With progress going along at this rate, I may actually start building shops and terraces sometime in early 2020, and I'm actually looking forward to starting on these. I think I secret maybe out about an idea I have for a little street furniture.....
I might start cutting the base templates soon, which means I can play with a big jigsaw, but I may make a couple of changes to the plan, well maybe, and peaking of plans, look there is some of the track plan on display.
