If tomorrow never comes - Garth Brookes

This has made me think. Whilst the damage to my wife's car is annoying and feels personal, its not the end of the world. A Corsa bonnet new is about £70, I could spray it myself. Which is cheaper than the excess on her policy. We do live in a quiet area of Didcot (there are some) and its only frequented by walkers and learner drivers. However escape to the open country side is only across the road through other gardens.
If I got an alert at night would I go outside to tackle the criminal...probably not, I'd more likely shout out the window. Id like to think I'm more use to the wife and boys with out a knife stuck in me!
So I guess the question is why get CCTV? I think its the perception that we will feel safer and potentially catch a criminal. Its a deterrent. We can check on the house when we are away. We already have a Foscam inside for such purposes, so it would be an extension of that assurance.

Never fails to amaze me the wiring bodges people carry out. In our old house there was a copper nail instead of fuse wire in the old 30A fuse. I replaced it on discovering it. Only for it to blow one Christmas when I turned the heater on in the workshop. I met the wife in the garden as everything in the house was off as well. Subsequently found out the whole house was on a single 30 Amp spur! Even the old wall mounted single bar heater was on the lighting circuit. Soon got that rectified.
Moved to 1960s bungalow to find that the kitchen wiring was just in the plaster and in places went 45 degrees across the wall! I went to put a bracket up outside for my wifes hanging basket. One hole coincided with the cement between two bricks. Started to drill the hole and flash, bang wallop I'm on the floor! Son sticks his head out the window "dad the wifi has gone off"! Some muppet had hidden a wiring run in the mortar bed for some of the out door lights!

I've just seen an advert for some tacky dating show. The young couple were debating whether or not chicken was a bird! Obviously missed that (chicken) nugget at school.
Is it any wonder that programs are dumbed down and repeat everything after the advert. Brain and attention span of a gold fish.

From what I've gleaned from other users the wfi cameras can be a bit sketchy when it comes to connectivity. Some are battery powered which seems to defeat the object.
I supposed a trip wire, a bell and something akin to mouse trap to catch the fellon would be to old school.

I've tried a number over the years. Most taste like the un fermented wort you get in a home brew kit. I tried a cider as well. Don't remember then name, but it was in a short stubby bottle. Even half frozen it tasted like gnat's pee. My wife bless her presented me with a bottle of low alcohol wine. Mmmmmm I said as it stripped the enamel from my teeth! Its like low sugar/salt baked beans or reduce salt tomato sauce they don't taste right either. I guess the fermentation process adds something (alcohol) to the taste!
If I have to drive its a OJ & lemonade with lots of ice!

Having had my wife's car vandalised over the weekend I'm toying with the idea of home CCTV. Probably something from Screwfix. Has anyone got a system they are happy with?
I'm thinking wired with a recorder and access via my mobile. Must be secure. The reason I mention secure is the structural engineer who came to look at our subsidence was talking about home security and he showed me a Russian site that had hacked peoples CCTV, Web/Gaming/Baby cams. Over 5000 cameras looking at property & people in their homes with out them knowing!
Thanks

We used to see him going in and out of the hair salon near the old Newbury college as we headed to the pub at lunch. Always smiled and said hello.
