  1. If its anything like last years I will definitely be going, as long as the visitor isn't as unreliable as the last one...
  2. Hi Dave, Just caught up with this thread, the layouts looking awesome but i'm particularly interested with your YEC 0-4-0 DH, I know the owner of 2, although they don't have the fuel tanks on the running boards. They are very nice locos and I can't wait to see yours finished. I have a fondness for YEC locos as working in Scunthorpe Steelworks I got to see a fleet of YEC Janus locos roaming around the works on a daily basis and then working on YEC 1382 with the Industrial Diesel & Railway Preservation Group on weekends The loco you are referring to J is YEC 0-6-0DE 'Half Janus' 1382, it is currently at the Geoffrey Briddon Building at Peak rail undergoing restoration by the Industrial Diesel & Railway Preservation Group, If you go to their Facebook page it will show you the current progress. 3. Hi Ruston, I'm glad you enjoyed the tour on the 21st, I was shunting that tour and Cranford worked very well on that tour with her sounding like a beast going up the perimeter hill. The new locomotives are the ex-Lackenby Di8 bo-bo locos originally from Norway as Russ and Mick have already said. Jordan
  4. This is exciting news, I have a very close connection with the real thing, working at TATA Steel and seeing them daily at work and also being a volunteer at the Appleby Frodingham railway preservation society in scunthorpe steelworks which has one of the first built, I wonder if they will do a version in the Appleby Frodingham steel company's livery
  5. Hi all Can we make a list of every type of rail-served lineside industry, im sure we can think of some unusual ones. Heres some to get us started: Coal mine Power station Scrap yard Iron ore mine Fish docks/harbour Oil refinery Lets get a nice list going, it might just be inspiration for some new layouts. Thanks Jordan
  6. Hi all, As promised some more information regarding the locos of the Beckton Light Railway. The BLR is run with a fleet of mostly small tender engines or large tank engines but also uses garratt's for the larger peak season trains. Most of the locomotives where built in the BLR's own workshops. The proposed fleet consists of; Steam Garratt 0-4-0+0-4-0's 2-6-2 side tanks 0-4-2 tender locomotives 0-4-0 shunters Diesel 0-4-0 shunters Bo-Bo diesel electric 3 car multiple unit prototype. If you have any questions about the locomotives, feel free to comment, Thanks for reading, Jordan
  7. Hi all, Welcome to the Beckton Light Railway's blog page. Beckton is a large seaside resort on the east coast based on Cleethorpes in Lincolnshire, it has a standard gauge terminus near the town center and its own narrow gauge railway. The BLR runs from the sandy beaches on the north side of Beckton, to the small fishing village of Addington to the south with a junction to another narrow gauge line through the Rifle valley to the town of Newton-on-Rifle. Freight traffic on the line is very strong as the daily fish train runs from Addington docks to Beckton, and from the Rifle valley railway, there is a large amount of gravel and sand traffic from quarries around Newton to the cement concrete works at Middleton-on-Sea as well as the concrete trains to the dam under construction just beyond Newton, this is to become a hydroelectric power station to supply the valley. The passenger trains are just as busy. Most of them leave Beckton Midland (The interchange with the main line) and travel to either Addington or Newton, their is also a tramway styled line from Beckton Midland to the beach, which is run using locomotives with side skirts because of street running, this is very popular with the younger visitors who like the trains, beaches and fish and chips! That's the outline of the BLR and the RVR, more information coming later (hopefully a map!) Thanks Jordan
  8. I would have thought they would have started with a more standard design like the quarry locomotives or a WD Baldwin or Alco Jordan
