  1. Hopefully this shows the initial plan as an overall draft; needs further fettling but overall I've lifted this plan from what I could gather from Flickr photos of Oxcroft showing a site shunter and also a later arrangement which used the loco to push the wagons under the loading canopy. The numbers show where I think attention is needed, such as the headshunt length, the pointwork around the curve, the loading canopy and associated building and what to put in the gap left (I'm thinking a few bits of plant and possibly a domestic coal loading stage although this might be slightly out of period! I would like to introduce some sort of non-rail equipment. The idea is using the bottom road as an arrivals road an empty rake would arrive. The loco would set forward onto the headshunt and reverse via the loading road onto the rear of the rake, the shunter (BR or PO) would then take over splitting the rake and propelling the wagons through the loading canopy, reassembling the rake again at the top of the loading road. When loading is completed the shunter would pull back the rake freeing up the points for the loco to drop onto the front (A weak point this, the dispatch phase) I've added a cripple siding to the plan for interest, somewhere to trip an occasional Enparts van and or some tanks or similar depending on the final plan and the overall location (I think I'm straying into a wagon repair works theme here though) Anyway, open for review. Regards, Jonny.
  2. Hi, I'm fishing for inspiration for an exhibitable, diorama type limited size layout with a few throwback sidings and a passing loop, with a mind to snatching up a Janus shunter in the new year. I'm fairly certain that these were filthy and busy, at their peak, I've seen images mostly of urbex (urban exploration ) on the closed one near Bolsover, by the M1 and a few of filthy Grids and Choppers hauling long rakes of HAAs out of a few away over Cheshire way. Does anyone know where I might find more intel to put together a portfolio so I can research more thoroughly, ideally I'm thinking of setting it in or in proximity of the South Yorkshire coalfields or Selby way, but midland and any others would be equally transferable, as for era preferably 70s/ 80s depending upon closures , cutbacks. I just need the basic points, so I can flesh out with a decent serving of modellers licence! Locations (any still extant but mothballed, like Gascoigne Wood although I suspect this may have served a different purpose) any machinery or static plant onsite (sorting, grading, washing etc.) and whether these fell under the auspices of the BR network or the NCB/ Coal Authority, meaning did they have P.O. Enparts vans and shunters or would there be resident trip workings/ shunters etc. Also any signalling provisions (if any) would there be a ground frame or a were they box controlled? Sorry , I realise this is quite a long list but any pointers would be great so I could research further... I don't mind the legwork just need the initial scoop to get me going down the right track... If this is a duplicated topic kindly advise me so I can review and merge! Thanks in advance (I'll upload a draft plan to the Layout Planning section later on and potentially on here if there's interest) With regards Jonny Edit for typos
