It's worth paying a good joiner to do it once if you know one, you will waste more wood if you aren't to good at joinery.

  3. Hi Nathan9117... i tried a double track but it looks overpowering in the space available and was deviating from the branchline feel i want to create, im not a big fan of straight track lines as you can see on the plan, the curve works out just slightly bigger than 3rd radius which is pleasing on the eye
  4. Hi all ..good day today, first 2 board frames finished ready for tops and pre-cut the 3rd board frames which is 4ft x 18" ready for tomorrow to put together,i also started cutting the 4th which will be a tapered board 3ft 3" long and 18" wide tapered to 12"...see how good my cuts will be there then! If i ever have to move the layout for some reason it can be dismantled, this is the first mistake i made with exe valley ,i had to demolish one board to move house... lesson learnt! Here is the track plan so far, all points should miss the bracing and track board joins should fall on a plain piece of track... good ole anyrail! The botom left two boards will be lift up sections as this is the door access and to the conservatory, seen a good hinge method on utube using kitchen door hinges so i might have a bash at that method.
  5. Hi all.....ok, Exe Valley has now gone and my new venture begins.......have now changed scales to OO but still staying with the gwr theme.. of course! A ficticious devon branch line called Little Marley ......spent the afternoon constructing the first 2 boards,10 ft 3" long and 18 inches wide, the total room area i have is 10ft x 5ft which was a utility room.. now the train room!(mancave ).... it will allow me a full single line circuit although i will have 2 lift up sections to allow access to the conservatory ...these first 2 boards will have a couple of sidings and twin engine sheds with a turntable, the opposite side will be a small branchline station setting with goods sidings and goods shed.... as they say... work in progress!

  24. Hi Nick, the layout is fully dcc, the main bus is installed and droppers to allow us to run, more track work is needed on the station sidings, carriage sheds and at some point (long way off) exmouth jcn shed(72A)... the track plan is based on the prototype of exeter central around 1940 ish with a few very minor changes for operational reasons and so we can use off the shelf track(code 80 streamline)... we have used the double cross over...so yes with a coupling change to stock it can be done, i have a full 8 coach rake of br/southern coaches which looked impressive running around and a farish b of b (spitfire) is being chipped as we speak... i am looking forward to the release of dapols new unrebuilt/rebuilt versions for better detail...as more work is completed i will post some more pics....
  25. Thanks Bob... Ben,at the moment there are around 4 of us been track laying and wiring who have the skills but other n gauge members have helped with the boards as required, each member has a different level of knowledge and practical skill which we all try to share and pass on to each other, in all about a third of the club are n gauge. Dave
