Goods guard's vans - how were they lit, if at all?
manna replied to magmouse's topic in Pre-Grouping - Modelling & Prototype
G'Day Folks I had to hand my Bardic back in when I left the Railways in '91, but my son has found a Bardic lamp in the UK and shipped it out to me in Oz, only last week I remembered to buy a pack of batteries to get it going again. I can remember quite a few Guards having to defend themselves with a Bardic lamp late at night, a few broken bones, but never a broken Bardic. manna -
G'day Folks Afraid not. Everything has had to be packed away and transported to Queensland for the Winter. I'm now up to my neck in Tropical grass, fencing etc. But I will be heading back to the horsebox/CCT conversion ASAP. Another wagon has had a bit of work, this one is an Ian Kirk LNER box wagon. manna

G'Day Folks Not sure it's as old as you may think. To the right of the Great Northern sign on the building, there is another sign that says 'LNER BRO' or some such ??? manna

G'Day Folks Could have put it down to 'Bomb' damage, circa 1940. manna

G'Day Folks We tend to forget the size of trees as we see them everyday, looking good. manna -
G'Day Folks Mucking about with a Lima horsebox, as I said last year, I wanted to see if I could turn it into a GN, CCT, don't look to bad so far. I've taken all the detail back to a flat surface, and 'Planked' the sides and ends (they are a bit wide), then using pre cut strips (Evergreen) added the end doors and framing, just reached painting stage, other than changing the wheels to 'Munsell' type I won't be touching the chassis for a while, it's almost time to head North again. In the last picture I need to add two large louvered air vents, this will get done later. manna

Bounds Green Depot Area 1950-1965 (pics needed)
manna replied to Camps Junction's topic in Modelling real locations
G'Day Folks The Bounds Green layout has been in my mind for many years, didn't have the room for it, but do now, it'll have to be a bit smaller that scale, but I think I can get away with it. I lived on the Noel Park Estate in the 50's and early 60's, now in Northern Queensland, strange how we move about the globe. manna -
G'Day Folks Hi Shaun Hadn't notice the back, of the J54 sticking up, I'll have to take a closer look. Looking forward to having everything under one roof again. I didn't realise that I had accumulated so much, there must be at least half a ton. Next year there will be at least another 200kg of Books and Magazines to be taken to Queensland. This is what the Garden looked like after the wet season. manna

G'Day Folks Long time no post. Been very busy on other things, I've had to sort out and pack as much of my stuff as possible onto a trailer and transport it across Australia, I can't get it all on board, so I've had to be very selective, all of my Tools, that will be needed to refurbish the house, then whatever else I can pack. All up 100% of my tools, and 75% of my models/railway stuff is now in Queensland. I'll have to do another trip next year, as there are plenty of books etc still to be transported. Very little in the way of modelling has been accomplished, except for the J54 now having a number, there should be a small 'N' after the number, but I can't find my yellow paint (not surprising really) manna
