  1. Greetings from Norway! After spending the last 3 or 4 days reading my way through this thread I have to say that this is a fantastic thread to read both for the modelling and comedy. Keep up the fantastic work Rob, this is definitely a project that I'll be following closely! Also have to admit that reading through this has added to my inspiration to get going and build my own layout, although it will have engines in a more Olive shade of green Stuart
  2. Thanks for the kind comments everyone, really helps with the motivation to get the project done (have to admit that it can be quite intimidating seeing the beautiful things lots of others on here produce). On the cylinders subject I might try to bulk them out with modelling putty and then file them to shape. Your Z looks good John, I also had the same problem as SRman of milling out inside the boiler and it getting very thin, theres parts that are thin enough for daylight to be seen even with the coat of black paint on. Also on the buffer beams I am thinking of doing the red only to the height of the buffer mounts as has been done on yours. One downside to this project is that I'm already looking for a next kit to build and theres too many tempting engines, especially big Southern tank engines such as the River, W Class, and the LB&SCR L Class. Although I might have to say no more buying until a layout has been built, but plans are starting to come together for that, and once things are a bit more in place I will have to share the thoughts and ideas on here. Although they may be a little frowned upon by the more serious railway modellers. Stuart
  3. Finally got a picture of current progress for you guys! Unfortunately I'm now 12 hours drive from all the modelling equipment etc, so no more progress until I'm home again in June. Stuart
  4. Well I'm finally back again, having a well deserved easter holiday from traditional wooden boat building, which means I'm again re-united with my railway modelling equipment. So, time for an update! I was given a chassis at christmas time which now has had the body mounted too it after some filling, grinding and swearing (after loosing one of the safety valves). The steps and buffer's have been mounted and the body given a coat of primer. So all that needs to be done now is order a whistle, new safety valve, work out what to do for couplings and give it a final coat of paint before adding some nice sunshine lettering decals to it. But I will try and get some pictures of current progress up before I travel away again. Unfortunately we still need something to run it on, but that's a project for the future, although it might be not too far away, as I can see the collecting here expanding once Bachmann's E4 and Dapol's B4 are released.
  5. Well after a long time away, I thought I would pop my head back in, and I have to say that your work is fantastic SRman, makes me jealous that I am around 12 hours drive from all my stuff so can't get anything done (also helps inspire me even more to finish it). But hopefully there will be some progress from me while I'm home over the christmas break.
  6. I obtained my Markit's bits from a seller on a well known auction site, luckily enough I was in england visiting family over the last few weeks, so it was quite easy to obtain stuff before coming back to Norway. My problem at the moment is finding the chassis.
  7. @SRman, I got the Ross Pop ones produced by Markits. @15class, to be honest I would prefer not to do any scratchbuilding with brass, as I have never done any of that sort of thing before, but I might follow Graham_Muz's post with filing and filling a set of cylinders to the right shape.
  8. Well the stuff is all here now, so planning on making a small start over the next few days if i can find time, although other things will be taking precedence from wednesday in the form of Viking Re-enactment, then moving back to school to start an even bigger project than this, in the form of a 42ft traditional norwegian fishing boat (a picture of last year's one can be posted but not sure if it is allowed/ of interest). But I was wondering if people could point me in the right direction for other detailing parts that they will be needed in this build, as I found some of the catalogues I was looking through to be quite a minefield of bits. What I have so far is the body kit, buffers, safety valves, handrail wire and handrail knobs. So as usual, any help would be most appreciated. Stuart
  9. @ SRman, will we be seeing pictures of it on here? Progress report on how I'm doing is detailing bits have arrived, but no body shell as of yet (no idea if it's even in the post), and still no 8f found for a decent price. Stuart
  10. Well thats the body kit and some of the detailing parts ordered, now just to find an 8f chassis!
  11. @SRman, no worries with thread hijacking, any input/information is more than useful. @Graham_muz, thank you for the pictures. I have to admit, that seeing pictures of Fisherton Sarum is one of the main reasons for mine and my father's railway modelling sparks being re-ignited after many years (could have something to do with you having a Leader, Q1 and some 'Spam Cans' on there, which are his 3 favourite types of engine).
  12. Hi there, I'm reasonably new to the Kit building scene and have been contemplating purchasing a Golden Arrow Productions Z Class (there's something about those big SR tank engines that makes them irresistable), my only trouble is identifying which of the Hornby 8f's is the correct one to use with this kit, and was curious if anyone here has built one and knows which of the 8f's is correct. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
