P4 wheels do like to fall off the rails. I think the reason for alot of pre grouping locos looking the same is that most where built at the same factories but maybe had slight changes for the ordering company. Take the K2 and Barton Wrights 4-4-0 both where built by sharp Stewart. It wasnt until 1889 when Horwich works were completed and the Lanky built their own locomotives.

I have managed to convert mine by bringing the wheels out on the axles. I have a smp back to back which I took. 8mm off which took into account the Bachmann wheels. Its actually the shape and thickness of the flanges which cause the problem. I have an article somewhere where a chap converted one but used new wheels and axles. The only draw back there he wanted use Gibson wheels and they dont actually have the correct size and spoke pattern so he had to compromise. Thats why I chose my route for now until I can come up with a better solution that suits my needs. I must sit down and start a thread the layout.

Thank you. You guessed right. Its an old MPD kit of ASPINALs class 27. There where bits missing or trashed beyond belief when I purchased it. So a fair bit has been scratch built. I now have a second one to build which is unstarted. Shes not finished yet. Need to do.more lining then fit buffers. Fix the two halves together properly. Also have a second Bachmann Radial tank to convert to em. Hope to have a selection of locos that ran the holmfirth branch to give variety at exhibitions. The layout is getting a bit of a make over to back date it into correct pre grouping era. The canopy will be lengthened right upto the tranship shed. A 45' turntable fitted. Im currently constructing a low relief hotel which sat over looking the turntable at the end of the line.

SCC - Sparkshot Custom Creations - 3D Design/Printed Loco Kits etc

I was aiming to use the more flexible option on the chassis as detail crispness isn't as vital as a smooth running model. Yes no problem with sharing the build. Regards Jon -

Currently fitting these to my fathers n gauge layout with cross board wiring using 6 core alarm cable and d sub connectors. Once installed I will be fitting these to my layout 'HOLMFIRTH' to give me smooth turnout control but more importantly semaphore bounce Regards Jon -
Knuckles. I model pre grouping era. The lanky are my chosen company. Love the two locos you have designed and built. Would you be able to draw up a Barton Wright 0-6-2.?? There could be others I would be interested in I would need to check as only certain types were used on the branch. My layout is of Holmfirth which is based around Aspinal era but also goes to Ww1.it would be nice to have a selection of locos from different eras of the L&Y for when the layout is out at exhibitions. Just to give the public a view of progression. By the way those furness engines are stunning. Any chance of maryport and Carlisle locos? Cheers Jon..

I have a first edition Lanky Radial tank that Bachmann produced for Locomotionmodels in l&Y livery and the puck ups work absolutely fine. Plus my wheels are pulled out to em gauge. Jon

Rob. The Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway used a painting cycle of 5 to 6 years and so the LYR livery survived to around 1930. The LYR marked every compartment door with a 1st or 3rd designations. The Transfers were gold leaf characters with a very fine red line and a thicker white outer line. The company letters LYR appeared near the left hand end and the running number in the equivalent position at the other end. Below each of these was a transfer of the company ‘crest with the tan garter. The following Precision Paints are suggested: Carriage plum P554 Carriage roof white P976 Lining cream P556 Carriage tan P555 For transfers use either HMRS sheet 19 or the 51L Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway carriage transfer sheet.

My lanky trio at holmfirth. The 27 and 23 class are undergoing lining and compensated chassis. The 2-4-2 is from Bachmann soon to be joined by another

Any pre grouping era stock looks handsome. Mind I am biased that way

The livery with the curved writing is from the Hoy era which is 1899-1905. Although HUGHES continued to carry on with the arc writing on some clases. As for coaching stock they would of pulled either six wheeled (which were getting old by then and replaced) with newer 54' elliptical roof 8 wheeled bogie coaches designed by Fay. Hth Regards Jon
