With my Garden Rail hat on, we regularly feature articles on budget builds where even locos are created for less than the price of a OO coach. Cheap modelling is out there if you want it...

What-ho! One of us! Personally, when i hear garage, i think cold and damp! A good heater and cardboard covered in a carpet for the floor...,
I have a double oval, 00 gauge, in a cupboard 7' x 3' with basic sidings and a simple back-scene all round and i run anything, narrow and standard, battery, clockwork, mains, cheap and cheaper! 'Coz trains like to run! Just do your thing, try what feels good and you will eventually settle on what works for you. Don't spend hundreds until then.....
Welcome and enjoy the ride!

Reading that it's no wonder there are few foster families. With all the box ticking have they ever asked how your mental health is?

Do you have any experience of those motors etc, and know if they fit in the Lord Nelson? My other worry is flywheel removal/replacement
Also saw this re replacing a Q6 motor with other Hornby 5-poles so wondered if that could be done on this loco https://longsheds.blogspot.com/2019/10/no-152-remotoring-Hornby-q6.html
A quick scroll through shows these. 254825071654. Check shaft diameter. 1.5 or 2.0mm.
I have used a few of his motors in the past with no issues apart from a light file of the motor mount to get a snug fit. Not done a Nelson though.

new motor
Check out ebay seller "bee_studio". He has a lot of model motors that are direct replacements most loco's. e.g. item no. 254442571313

Any words of advice? The wheels on my Pug have begun to seize up, they still turn but they bind up rather easily, and are hard to turn, odd as the drive was turning rather freely yesterday, maybe the oil I used when I took it for a run at the club had dried up? I don’t trust myself to take it apart and add graphite, so anyone got any pointers?
Scrub the axles under the warm tap with washing up liquid and an old tooth brush to degrease, then add lubricant of your choice.
(I always strip every chassis down and scrub the blocks in the sink thoroughly with wash up liquid to remove all dirt, sometimes the whole loco goes in, motor gear, the lot. A good soft tooth brush or clothes brush can really give results. When thoroughly dry they look like new. Fresh lubricant and away you go.)
(Not the modern, digital stuff though!!)

Avoid the small UHU tubes in the bargain shops, very thin stuff. OK if you clamp and leave overnight to dry. The larger tube from stationers is much better, thicker and dries quicker.

Rather tempted to try the Baltic tank out myself, or at least some other 4-6-4T… Maybe an LBSCR L class “Remembrance”? Either way, do you have any photos of this model from when you were building it? How much of the body is Princess and how much is custom/third party?
No, unfortunately, just had a body, plasticard and a drawing. It was a bit involved but the body is a spine everything is mounted on. That way you keep the mounting points.

Well. Got a lot of kits gone.
Must cut back on buying job lots.
Make the kits I have.
Make some more foreign locomotives and rolling stock.
And a bit more 0 gauge, battery stuff!
"The best laid plans gang aft aglay!" ...I think...

Ivor is ceramic
Don't waste your time motorising that. Trace the design onto card, colour with felt tips or acrylic, and assemble onto your chosen chassis. The R.057 chassis can be cut down quite a lot! Or, follow this link.

Got any photos of that chassis? So I can have a better look at what you’re on about.
Given the size of that Ivor model though, would Nellie wheels not be a better choice?
Page 110 of the "Show us your pugbash" thread. Page 105 of the same thread shows the same chassis with solid Jinty wheels for the North London tank.

A Hornby pug chassis, chopped down to the bare minimum, with Triang, solid princess wheels, (so you can use the original pick-ups). I did this for my Metropolitan 4-4-0. You will have to grind a couple of grooves in the can motor housing to clear the flanges which I filed down by 1,1/2mm beforehand.
