  1. 45 Years ago Eastleigh Open Day 1975 As an 13 year old and big class 52 fan I had joined WLA to help raise funds for D1062 by selling copies of 'The Courier'. The Bristol branch occasionally ran some coach trips to Works/depots also to raise money. This is one of the trips I attended on that sunday in 1975. Quite often due to a shortage of Peaks on a summer saturday we would be treated to a pair of rats also a midland DMU set Birmingham to Weston super Mare was always running.

  6. August 1st 1977 First day of 'Area 10 Midland rover' cost ten pounds for the week plus daily return Bristol to Cheltenham The 1M07 0740 BTM - Manchester was our daily service and on this day was planning to visit Westhouses, Barrow hill & Shirebrook. Unfortunately our Peak failed at the Lickey resulting in a long delay and we were only able to do bescot, Saltley and bletchley. expecting to be rescued by a pair of 37s usually parked nearby 31108/05 took us forward to New Street a couple of hours late. The rest of the week all trains ran to time and everyday returned on the 1V98 Newcastle - BTM which on our final day on sunday to our surprise was hauled by 40069.

  20. Hi Neil , Did not go on this one (went to York previous week) but went on the next two april & nov 1976 but only managed to save a few notes. I remember them well especially the latter where ICRS provided a coach which also included Glasgow works and Millerhill but only two were allowed around Polmadie. Great times.

  23. 12th October 1975 Bristol Parkway It wasn never easy for this fourteen year old to get out of bed early on a sunday morning(or any other day)but on this day a Deltic was to pass through my patch for the first time. I had previously on seen them at Kings X and York and now only needed 3 & 10. There was a fair amount of interest at Bristol Parkway and a good crowd had gathered around the car parks. Eventually the sound of napier engines were heard for the first time in Stoke gifford and to my delight 'Meld' appeared. I have since seen a few deltics pass through the area but that first time was a special day. 12t October 1987 an hour at Filton J 33020/48 37426 47241/436/584 50037

  25. It might have worked a freight from Doncaster Belmont/Scunthorpe/healy Mills etc. I have even seen some class 40s stabled there including the infamous 40126. I was glad 319 was there though, the Knottingley 47s were very rare in bristol though there was the occasional one on a relief on a summer saturday in the 70s.
