Robin, looks really good. How does the Bachmann Jubilee cope with 11 coaches? I like the Devonian headboard.

David, which loco are you modelling as there are lots of differences in balance weights. Some locos had Stanier style balance weights some on all wheels, some only on one or two axles. Let me know and I will sort out some photos.

Dave, I know you like a challenge! What are you doing for a Crank axle and what wheels are you using?

Robin,
love the weathering on the sand dryer.

I have had the same problem with Bachmann locos although I only weather with enamels.
The first step for me is to dismantle the chassis and get rid of the excess lubricant, Bachmann appear to put 4 times as much lubricating grease as is required. You need to stop the lubrication from being thrown up from the chassis.
i have found that I need to make 2 passes with the Isopropynal and then wash with mild detergent. The lubricant is really difficult to get rid of.

Excellent work as usual David. I have the transfers ready and waiting for both locos!

Excellent description, we model the prototype and I for one love to understand the internal mechanics. I have T300 Hinckley Triumphs motorcycles and they have the same issues with liner seals failing after 25 years but the cylinder heads does not need 4 men to lift it of!
keep up the good work, and keep posting.

The ladder assembly looks brilliant, I suspect that the ladders were far more difficult than the building.
Excellent work.

Robin, excellent work. The brick built shed housing the controls for the ash plant looks a right hell hole!
Looking forward to the next build.

I find that spraying clear is problematic, so I brush it on.

I used Klear on a re built Scot and that darkened the colour nicely.

Robin, excellent work, what is the origin of the door?

Robin, excellent work, I wish I was as quick doing the conversion. 45611 Hong Kong is still not finished! Looking forward to seeing them all running.
How many more Jubilees are you planning?

Dave, one of the advantages of the Samhongsa built models is that it comes with sprung axleboxes so converting to P4 is relatively simple. As a sometime American modeller I recognised the Samhongsa name stamped on the keeper plate.
i agree the Bachmann model is excellent and stands up well to current RTR models.

Morgan, Thanks.

Dave, Thanks. I find taking photos very often shows up imperfections that I can then rectify. The standard Bachmann chassis for the Pannier tank has some vertical movement in the centre axle, and runs really well. Will be giving it a run out on the Nottingham Area group test track as the final test. The model cost me £65 of eBay, which is less than the cost of a standard OO one and the Ultrascale wheels cost almost that as well. I find that stuff with poor paint jobs are the ones to buy. Next job is to give it a light weathering and make up the fire irons for the bunker.

Dave, the fact that the original body did not have a bottom to the boiler was not on, so it’s the 2nd generation Hornby body but the front fixing needs removing. I have re used the rear body fixing you added to the chassis.

Very impressive Dave, how the hell do you solder that lot together!

Good spot David, I will have to ask Tony if he can confirm who the builder was. I shall have to look underneath to see the clearances.

The weathering was based on a photo of a sister 84xxx engine from Lees, hence what appears to be a strange weathering pattern. The quality of Daves building and all the extra detailing is a joy to behold. Dave had extra etches made to put the additional detail on.

I use a cotton bud to remove weathering.

Mick, if you go to the thread on The Lilleshall Company in the Industrial Railways section of RM Web there are plenty of photos of Lilleshall No 19 (Works no 883).

Dave, the pre group wagons are for a separate pre group period for the layout. I am building a couple of LNWR locos to go with the wagons, a coal tank and a 17” goods.

Dave, looking really good. We need to meet up soon.

Dave good to see the layout into the sun and looking forward to seeing the Scot finished.
Photographing outside lends softer tones.
