  1. Come on Rob,unlike you to display pessimism. Why should it NOT happen? Consider this....Bachmann initially shied away from the Blue Pullman.Did anyone remotely consider that we would ever have a B.G..?...yet Hattons and Heljan are now rapidly selling them successfully. The Pullman retailed at £250 plus and I don't need to remind you that the BG sets you back £200 a go.Some of us have made made multiple purchases of these giants...as you have yourself....and why not indeed ? Last week,Rapido Trains and Locomotion Models NRM unveiled theAPT -E.No shortage of take up,it seems for this iconic masterpiece. We are talking of investments of several hundreds of pounds with all of the above.....and they are long models and enthusiasts will run them on their layouts...as I do with my Blue Pullman. Pre war express trains were the pinnacle of the romance of the railway .In many ways, the LNER streamliners represent the supreme achievement of British engineering.Fitting then,I believe, that, near the cradle of railway development in the North East, the Shildon team should have a crack at the Silver Jubilee...it'll only cost a couple of BG's ,Rob.
  2. Silver prewar ones MIGHT be better...they'd be eye-catching. Pre-war streamliner nostalgia....Shildon is after all the North East with its historic connections with the the streamliners such as The Silver Jubilee.Come on,you could be missing a trick here......you could EVEN,sorry if this is a flight of my particular fancy, commission a whole train !! Golden Age do one but that's out of most people's price range,There is a gap in the market for these coaches. It has the potential to be the most eye-catching train since Bachmann's Blue Pullman.
  3. Ah...but we got you hooked on the line, which is really good news for us Hornby A4 devotees.I think the general consensus of opinion is that worthy though the re-chassied Bachmann A4 is,because the body tooling is past its sell by date,it does not quite cut the mustard. In post 90 60880 makes a bid for Locomotion to commission some Hornby A4's.For me,a personal choice would be apple green.I just love my apple green but I wholeheartedly endorse his other choices too. However,on a personal note,it seems that the siver-bodied Hornby A4's are like gold dust.I do not possess one.I would like one,so IF it has to be Bachmann, then, yes,I'd stretch a point .Would still prefer a Hornby one,though....go on then, how about a Hornby 2510/11or12 ?
  4. Entirely agree..but the apple green livery was very short-lived.
  5. They're trying to tilt your arm behind your back. Another case of Locomotivation....an incurable virus......treatable at Nurse Sandra's hospice for weak-willed RMWebbers by a couple or three injections of succumbicillin. Go on.....what are you waiting for.....group therapy ?
  6. Thank you ,Steve..that does put things in perspective.
  7. There are plenty available elsewhere,Darren, but at the new price,I'm afraid. Hereford Model Centre are well-stocked with all three versions.
  8. Tales of the performance of Bulleid Pacifics as if it were a newly discovered phenomenon make me smile. In fine fettle and with a crew who knew how to handle them, their performance was exceptional....yes,we know they had their foibles which are well documented.A Stewart's Lane crew often performed heroic deeds on the boat trains out of Victoria.I remember one occasion which stands out in my memory of such a run with original air smoothed (at the time) 34104 'Bere Alston' down to Dover. I sat near the rear on the right hand side of the train and I swear I can still see and hear her accelerate like a rocket up Grosvenor Bank with 14 on.I remember it as the most exhilarating train ride of my life. I was fourteen at the time and an avid spotter. We arrived too late to get to the front end to see what was on. On returning home,I wrote to the Shedmaster at 73A,enclosing S.A.E. for a reply, asking him to supply me with the information of the loco in question. ( I made a habit of this as a boy).I got my reply. Imagine that happening today!
  9. Yes,there were a couple of renames on the Hornby experimental blue ...to me nearer to purple....but then, colour is a subjective thing.Occasionally, one comes up on e-bay. Vile colour...but a good model.Mine could do with a decent weathering.
  10. Perhaps a niche here for a retailer to commission a 'special'.........used to happen with Modelfair doing a couple in experimental blue...but probably things are a bit too fragile for this now.
  11. Arrived.....just joined the Top Link stud.....yee hah ! Damaged box version on e-bay. Model hasn't been removed from box & looks pristine...still in wrapping. Now to test drive my newly acquired plug tool. ( Peter's Spares...with thanks for excellent service ) Hornby uses supremely efficient UKMail, which hs actual people you can talk to and who do their utmost to help.Particular thanks to Helen at the Derby depot who is more au fait with Hornby's system and tracking numbers than,I suspect,Hornby is.Their tracking system informed that it would arrive between 08.04 and 09.04. It arrived at 08.30 .Test run later.....I LOVE this thread ....seen some SUPERB piccies and skill. Thanks, chaps.
  12. No apple green version currently available in loco driven ( post 2004 ) model....nor ever has been,I'm afraid.
  13. 60011 delayed "on shed" at Margate depot.....shortage of footplate staff, leaves on line, local difficulties etc.,etc .? Better late than never,I suppose.
  14. A4 Collectaholics Anonymous.....where's the clinic ? I need help..... 7 BR green :4 LNER Garter Blue : 1 Wartime Black : 1 Experimental blue :1 BR blue.....oh,and "expectant" on an 8th BR green from HQ Margate....60011 "The one that got away".....R 2965 "Silver Link"...out of reach it seems. "To strive to seek,to find and not to yield ".Anyone out there got one who doesn't need one......sensible money paid. ....honest guv.
  15. Ben A....post 337....is about to talk himself into another job,I think . RMWeb "roving reporter"?
  16. Just sat and watched.....and listened to Andy Y's wonderful video with Jason,Kit & co. What a breath of fresh air...I am full of admiration for such enthusiasm and dedication. Jason,as the saying goes, you could sell sand to a Bedouin chieftain !
  17. That is an assumption I would not make. The models in question in all likelihood will already have left the factory and be somewhere in transit."Getting it right" isn't an option at this stage.I'm afraid you'll get what's in the box.
  18. ...I thought I can,I think I can,I thought I can,I think I can,I thought I can,I think can......."
  19. E-mail from Hattons just now. 26610 BR Lion&Wheel, lightly weathered ,arrived in stock.
  20. Great to read such warmly supportive posting.....what this forum is all about.
