  1. Thanks chaps. I don't much fancy using the Locomotion page though. It's not secure, and given the details they're asking for, it ought to be.

Many of us have used their website...without problems reported on this forum to date.Do you happen to be aware of any incident of fraudulent usage ? On what evidence are you making this claim ? Both payments I have recently made for items have been via a secure system.I am sure your allegation is well-meaning but it could easily be commercially damaging to the NRM,which relies on sales of specially-commissioned models, amongst other things,to survive.

  2. This is an image of the sample on display at DEMU a couple of weeks ago.......see posting 111 above. Comments on chimney appreciated. Correct ....or not ? Please let's get this one right.

  3. This particular gent ( ? ) resides nary a stone's throw from Shildon and has been an e-bay regular for several years. Why do punters buy ?  Because they are uninformed and gullible. My question is......how has he managed to be in possession of three within 24 hours ?

  4. Prince William is a beautiful model. One tip.......I almost contacted Shildon enquiring as to where the set of etched plates were.....not in the plastic shell or sleeve. Subsequently discovered nestling safely interleaved in the instruction papers in the outer box. Be careful......the perils of modern packaging!

  5. Ah.....a soul mate.....a.Stihl 'freak'. In fact, just considering a cordless pole trimmer to deal with ever -growing hedges & trees.Price looks great ....until you discover that it's extra for the li-on battery AND its charger !! THAT clinches it......far cheaper to invest my cash in a Lode(Star).

Long ago ceased the'shoes' strategy. Imelda Marcos already outgunned.

  6. My wife would run to the toilet with 'legs crossed' if she saw the cost. Wish I could remember the chimney on 4018 at the weekend,though......Stop it,boy.....neuroticism is for lesser mortals.

  7. I have in front of me my battered copy of  Ian Allen Combined ABC for 1955. There is a photograph of Princess Margaret ( 4056 ) which would indicate a slightly taller/slimmer chimney than the the one modelled in the excellent image of Lode Star. So........what with the plates and chimney,it appears that ,for GWR afficionados, some further work to be done.

I am still looking forward eagerly to the model being on my layout, however. Its overall shape and graceful lines are right. Stars and Saints were iconic locos of my childhood.....from Swansea High Street to Cardiff General,Pontypool Road and beyond........Why commit NOT to buy.?.....there won't be another one signalled on the down main any time soon.

  8. No....in fact 4018,GWR. Spoiled...at least the sample is....by seriously deficient name and number reproductions.Did not have opportunity to query this with Mr.K.

  9. Saw the beast yesterday at DEMU (home territory).....looks very, very impressive to me in outline shape. A cause for future celebration, methinks.

  10. Sunday 24th January 1962.....Temple Meads.....double -heading 'Warship' on evening Paddington-Bristol-Plymouth.....the W.R.'s Sundays 'Great Way Round'. Posted this before,I know.Repeating myself (again)....senior moment etc....

           Cheers,Mike.......Ian.

  11. Which entirely misses the point that these were retailed by 'Steam' at Swindon to raise much-needed  funds. Hopefully, the production run will have done just that.It has value to this forum member as he was one of the first to see D 1000 in service.Thankfully,I've lasted longer than the livery but my memory lingers on and I'm still useful.

  12. I'm sorry to ask but what's the big difference between the Heljan Western and the Dapol Western? Is one worth more the money than the other?

You have lit the blue touch paper......now 'retire to safe distance'

  13. Just noticed that on Rails's site 47715 Haymarket is described as 'last few left, discontinued by manufacturer'. So thinking that this couldn't be right I had a quick look on the Bachmann site.

Low and behold Haymarket has a 'Out of stock' cross next to it, which I would normally take to mean discontinued...

Does anyone else know any better? As this is a new release and not intended to be any kind of limited edition as far as I was aware.

It is in the Bachmann 2013/4.Catalogue.  Rails are fantasising....again.......just means THEY haven't any of the current batch of 47715. More will eventually arrive in another consignment, just as,for example the current Class 37 D 6984 ( weathered ) is about to.Don't panic....that's just what Rails marketing style .....and one or two others....want you to do Try elsewhere....e.g. Hereford Model Centre.

  14. How does that happen, Ian? There's a good 7mm gap between the contact strips and the brass bushes on each side and a fair amount of plastic in the muffs and gears to keep them apart. Unless well and truly mangled there's no chance of the contact strips touching. If you have shorting across an axle it's more likely to be a rogue wheel set causing shorting between the two stub axles. Perhaps an over-long stub axle or one that hasn't been pressed into the wheel correctly. Either that or the axles have been pressed too far into the muff, though that would show up by checking B2B and would most likely lead to a stiff axle.

    Nick

Don't ask me how it happens.....I think you have probably identified it. Once it is sorted, all will be fine. It took Alex (Lochnagar ),two attempts of well over an hour and sheer skill and determination to sort mine. Torr Giffard's advice is sound.Let DCC Supplies deal with it.They are the best option here and they are very good.

  15. I've had problems with my 22 which I bought from helpful Hereford model centre. The loco seemed to run okayish at first but with a slight wobble as if the wheels were eccentric. Then the running became much less smooth in one direction - as if it had pick up problems. It's been back to the shop where they thought it was the blanking chip. A new chip later and the running is still as bad so I'm going to send it back again. I've just seen your post and wonder if the axles on mine are the problem ? I tested the 22 yesterday on clean new peco track and it juddered at slow speeds. My Bachmann class 20 and 24s never have problems - even when the track is dirty. So my experience with this 22 has not been so good. Has anyone else had similar problems?

The contacts on one axle are causing an intermittent shorting. I,too, have had the problem but on DC.

  16. Bachmann's fast reaction hasn't stopped The Signal Box putting one on e-bay this morning, with no warning to any potential purchaser.Disappointing.......but.hey ho,that's the way of it.

  17. This is starting to turn into some sort of nationwide hunt. "Find The Western". Is there some sort of cash prize for finding one?

Western Sultan (FYE) now on Rails website ....plus two Class 22 disc indicator versions. I'll waive my cash prize....

  18. Now that I can't answer.  I did get caught once (by a different seller) who just wanted to "borrow" my money for a while, but as Trains4U are a bricks and mortar shop I would hope they would be above that sort of thing.  I guess the way to find out would be for some of the people here who didn't get one against their pre-order to try and buy one!  I would, if I needed another...

Gareth is a respected contributor to this forum. He is being perfectly open about it.....nothing underhand. Unlike,it would seem.some retailers who are still happy to take an order which they cannot possibly fulfil. It is a genuine retail store...full of good things and well worth a visit.
