  1. Looks like they've manged to derail it already (middle wheels)!
  2. By "within the UK", I meant journeys wholly within the UK.
  3. Taking one's horseless carriage with one (or more usually, the whole family) was not unusual for the better-off lower classes until as recently as 1995...at least within the UK.
  4. There was a rake of six lit coaches on there last week - sold for £328. I bet the buyer is kicking themself now...
  5. Me too! I particularly want a Large Metro - my great grandfather used to drive them on suburban trains out of Paddington, while shedded at Southall.
  6. Well you'd like to think Hattons knew how many they had ordered to be made, and then closed the pre-order books for each model as it became 'sold out', rather than just continue taking orders they knew they could not fulfil. But there does appear to have been a bit of a c**k up numbers-wise somewhere along the line.
  7. I re-ordered the pack as I originally wanted the tri-composite and both the 4-wheel and 6-wheel brake 3rds. I already have a good selection of the rest, but as I wanted these three, I felt another 4-wheel 3rd won't hurt...
  8. Same here - once I got the original email advising the pack was going to be removed from my order, I quickly ordered individual coaches, from what was still available at the time, to try to make up the shortfall, though not all were available, only two types. Now I've re-ordered the pack, I'll have two more than I originally ordered. Not unhappy though, as they are really so very nice...
  9. Yes, there does seem to be a very large number available (it was 10+ for all types, I think, when I first looked, but some numbers have now dropped below 10 or are now OOS). Like you, I can't believe they've had this many cancellations. Maybe some pre-ordered and have had a card number change, not updated their account, and then not responded to Hattons, or some pre-orderers are now modelling in another world so obviously didn't respond...but I doubt there's all that many.
  10. Maybe not first refusal, but Hattons are indeed selling at the original price to those who had any cancellations.
  11. For those who had their pre-orders (or part thereof) for GWR coaches cancelled by Hattons (or waited until they were released but then missed the boat), due to customer(?) cancellations a number have now become available - well, it looks to me like ALL versions are available, including the 4-coach packs. Prices for those that had pre-orders cancelled will be honoured. I've just re-ordered a 4-coach pack...
  12. Do you know who dealt with your issue? I might get a better response from them. All it is is one wheel not having the Mansell insert - looks odd.
  13. Have you had a satisfactory response yet from Hattons? I have a small issue with one coach (of eleven) - a small part missing when assembled - and was merely offered a refund or replacement (but replace with what, as they are sold out...?). They apparently don't appear to have any gash ones to cannibalise either.
  14. The six ventilators aren't equally spaced, so to me it doesn't look like it was a six-compartment. Maybe a guards compartment to one side of the middle?
  15. These really are absolutely fantastic, and a bargain, IMO! I'd only seen the Hornby ones on here, YouTube and in their oversize boxes in the shops, and wasn't overly impressed with them. Hattons did such a good job of keeping us updated with their own videos and releasing pre-production samples for review, plus having double footboards fitted as standard, I went ahead and pre-ordered several GWR 6-wheelers and a similar number of 4-wheelers. One nice touch is the addition of extra footboards, so that you can convert from the fitted double footboards to a single footboard, as many of this sort of coach would have had in later life. Unfortunately there is no mention of this on the instruction leaflet! On said leaflet there are instructions on how to remove the centre sliding wheelset and axleboxes on the 6-wheelers, thus creating a long-wheelbase 4-wheeler. However, as the lower footboards have a gap in the centre (to allow clearance for these axleboxes on curves), the lower footboard would then look a bit odd, so they would look better if replaced with just the single footboard (But mine are staying as 6-wheelers with their double footboards!).
  16. Just had an email from Hattons - they were taking pre-orders at £152.15, but due to a 'misunderstanding' they cannot provide them at that price now, and have increased the price to £169.15...
  17. A couple of days ago there was still a large number of the GWR coaches available to pre-order, with the rest listed as sold out. Now, all of a sudden, all of the GWR coaches have been dropped from the listings (though they can be found by other methods of searching), so it looks to me like they may have now arrived in stock.
  18. I have now had part of my pre-order cancelled. Note: it went in the Spam box.
  19. I've been getting it. I have though, viewed Hattons website in the last couple of days since reading of the Genesis coaches orders cancellations. (Fortunately not had an email yet...).
  20. I don't think MBs ever normally worked the 81 (we certainly had them when new on the 110 for a short while, before having MBSs on both the 110 and 111). After the RMs, the 81 had SMs then SMSs for several years before LSs took over for a longer period.
  21. I had to replay it a couple of times as I thought I'd misheard it the first time! I too was trying to imagine 22,000-tons worth of milk churns... After looking up the capacity of churns, I think I've worked it out somewhere near right, and it works out at approx 290,000 (41.5 thousand per day) of the old-type 17 gallon conical churns, or approx 492,000 (70.3 thousand per day) of the later straight 10 gallon churns. Cue a voice-over re-edit...
  22. What I was thinking. 22,000 divided by 7 = 3142. So yes, something about that figure, I guess it should have been gallons, not tons.
  23. I don't know, maybe gallons, but Siddy definitely said 22,000 tons per week...
  24. The latest episode has an item about Ongar Station. Apparently...in 1918 Ongar was sending 22,000 tons of milk to Stratford every week. That's 3,142 tons of milk per day! A lot of milk, a lot of cows! Methinks someone's either got the calculations or the units wrong! (Metric tonnes or imperial tons, it doesn't matter that much...).
