Is there a definition of 'mass produced'?  Sixty sounds rather a lot to me.

    Terry

I would have thought 60 would constitute a batch.

Collins' definition of mass production relates to a "standardized pattern on a large scale by means of extensive mechanization and division of labour".

  2. I am sorry to hear of the closure and of the implied tension.  I have very much enjoyed reading your Edgware thread and your contributions on this and other forums so a big thank-you, and I hope your circumstances improve and you will be able to return to layout building.

Organic* might be a real wine but the terminology "organic" is plain wrong as organic refers generally to anything containing C + H compounds as many artificial compounds do, which would not be considered OK by organic farmers.

*Actually had a very nice bottle of Nero d'Avola (Sicilian) at lunchtime and it was organic & vegan! It also had a 80% recycled bottle, 100% recycled label and was produced with zero carbon emissions (it said)

Surely the fermentation process gives off carbon dioxide?

By that standard, the football offside rule is also simple:

A player is in an offside position if (s)he is between the ball and the opponents’ goal line, unless:

(then follow more than 2 exceptions)

I used to understand it.  Now it seems - or it's interpretation - to change every week.

Given the evidence of the recent discussion (and previous ones) I certainly won't waste time and space by showing or describing any of my loco drive arrangements on here

That makes me a bit sad that those of us of more limited experience are prevented from learning by the negativity of others' responses.

I'm intrigued by how you can squeeze more efficiency out of driving an HGV. As far as I can see the only way of doing this would be for the driver to work longer hours or drive significantly faster.

    Make them still bigger....

  7. I would like to see exhibition conditions of entry as follows:

    1) Visitors able to produce "vaccine passport" or equivalent given green wrist bands, mask wearing to be discretionary.

    2) Visitors unable to produce such documentation to be given orange wristbands and required to wear a mask (FFP2?), available at point of entry if required.

Under these conditions, I would probably be prepared to visit an such as GETS but appreciate that some attendees might then choose to stay away.  I wonder what the effect on visitor numbers would be?

  8. Sitting in the Devon garden last weekend about 12' from the feeders and 15' from a tall hedge.  Sudden heavy rustling from the hedge, thought a number of sparrows had entered together.  About a minute later another commotion as 4 or 5 sparrows entered the hedge together and a SparrowHawk exited it across the garden, empty beaked and clawed.

We've had them swoop across the garden to take prey from the feeder before but never previously had them using cover like this.

  9. May I take the opportunity of asking what shade(s) of grey - hopefully not 50 - LNER modellers paint their freight stock?  I have used Precision enamel but have always thought it to be rather dark.  I would like to use an acrylic such as Vallejo "black grey" but it also does look to be on the dark side.
