A good approach would be for the players to comply with the Laws, then everything would be fine and dandy...

In any professional sport, players will always test the referee and see what they can get away with.  Sadly, this applies to much amateur sport also.

That creates a good looking surface, shame the track in my goods yard is already glued down!

Looks easy enough on a small diorama board, but would a decent sized goods yard present difficulties apart from the number of tins of Humbrol required? There may also be a need to represent where foot traffic, vehicles and, according to period, horses pass.

It hasn't. See  comments by Staionmaster, others and myself on the topic of level crossings/signalling distances on this line 07-09 March 2020.

    The topic is regularly raised.

I think you misunderstood my post. The public consultation relating to options ran from 31 March - 9 June 2021.  My post related to the apparent lack of comment following publication of the preferred option.

  4. The Bedford - Cambridge route choice has taken all the headlines but the Eat - West Rail website also contains news on the Bletchley - Bedford section.  Rather than replacing existing stations with a smaller number of new ones and tackling the level crossings, it is intended to maintain the existing stations.  The number of trains per hour will be reduced from 4 -5 down to 3 and the planned line speed on this section will no longer be 100 mph, though it should be higher than the current 60 mph.  The level crossings can then be retained.

Maybe a pragmatic solution, but perhaps somewhat different from the earlier vision of a fast 21st century link between the two Varsity cities.

  5. To be fair to Steve Banks, there is a section on his web site which gives details of some of the errors in volume 1, though it is undated and I don't know how comprehensive it is.  Clearly, it requires that he who spots an error to report it,  and that the (verified) information is added to the web site.

I think this sets a precedent which could be followed by  other authors/publishers.

  6. Torn loyalties today.  I went to Salford Uni but lived in Didsbury so knew Stockport well.  Being a City supporter, Stockport just edged it, along with the game.

Anyone remember "Friday night is County night"?

  7. A pleasure to watch a successful England team run and pass the ball.  Also a pleasure to have commentators content to describe the action rather than arguing amongst themselves about past "triumphs" and this week's  interpretation of the Laws of the Game.
