Popped over to Rugeley PS this afternoon, thought it was high time I got a look at one of these brutes. My initial take on the design was prety ugly, didnt like them at all. BUT.......having seen one close up, and the fact they resemble the class 58's, I am quietly impressed, and I think the design is going to grow on me. It is something different than a 66...lets be grateful for that if nothing else.

Just about warming up down there by now eh.? I fondly remember spending six weeks working for my company in Melbourne back in the late eighties, during a January and February. I see you like beaches too.......I was working close to one called St Kildas, stayed in a Motel on the Warrigal Road....oh great memories.!!!!!!!

Anyway your layout...........first time I have come accross it, I'm not a big browser of RMweb, and even less on the new one I'm afraid....hopefully that might change as I get more up to speed with the changes.

Love your model railway...and all the pics, I shall keep my eye on this thread from here on.

Tell me, I like your retaining walls behind the signal box and around the bridge, what did you use to make them.? I might to copy something like that onto my layout.

That pointwork is a work of art.

Reason for my question was this....a colleague of mine is entering the hobby for the first time, in his sixties, inspired by my layout too.

But, he wants to go down the C & L finescale route.....and has bought track and points from a shop in sheffield, forget which.

So he has this track which is CL Finescale code 75 bullhead........BUT NO RAILJOINERS......what should he do to join up his track Gordon.??

Likewise Gordon...I love tracklaying, but I'm not too hot with my woodworking skills, and as for scenery, well only time will tell.!!!.

I have just bought some artist board, its white, about 5mm thick, foam centre, smooth outside...I had thought of using that to stick brick paper onto....I shall have a look at the plasticard idea, it will give more texture.

Thanks for those pics, I had always puzzled how I am going to do those chamfered pillars, now I see, you dont make chmfered pillars at all, you just angle the wall on square pillars. I told you I was no woodworker, but I dont mind admitting to my failings, people mostly then explain it more simply for me.

As yet I still have scenery to do on my layout, and I do need some retaining walls similar to yours, can I ask whose, what, etc., are the ones you have on your layout.

Great to see a class 66 going one way and an old steamer the other way......just like on my model railway or "train set" as the grand kids call it sometimes..!!!

Not seen this or your previous thread before....so pleased its a thread....can't get to grips with blogs yet.

This is really good stuff, and an excellent display of loads of pics which people can get loads of inspiration from. Lots of good ideas.

Tell me......I have some retaining walls to build on my layout, not an insubstantial amount either. So I dont want to spend months constructing them, and need something that looks as good as both your arches and your upper retaining walls, but without requiring too high a level of modelling skills.

So...........how do you make yours.
