  1. Define a 'Troll' please?
  2. The first soap was on ITV and it was called Emergency Ward 10, you also missed the Bill and Z Cars
  3. Morland Bitter doe not taste the same since they moved the brewing to Suffolk and as to the Morland Brewery it is now very expensive flats. Abingdon has not been the same since the closure of MG's and the Brewery. From someone who used to live there.
  4. Hi Chaz I have just remembered I have one of these SDH166 decoders in my K-28. Have just been out to run it and the sound level is just fine, matter of fact it actually needs turning down a bit. The difference between the Baccy 2-8-0 and the K-28 is I have used a 1.5 in diameter cone 8 ohm speaker in the tender as opposed to the supplied box speaker so it looks as though the volume levels are due to the speaker. John
  5. Hi Chaz Although I sold you the loco I have no answers to this problem but can I suggest contacting Ted Smale of Sunningwell Command Control http://www.scc4dcc.co.uk/ . They are a Digitrax Agent. John
  6. The Cloud is open to hackers whereas external hard drives are not, think about it.
  7. It seems to me that many people have forgotten that Richard Webster is working with Dapol and he has years of experience in the Model Railway manufacturing including spending time at Bachmann and Lionel. I know from the late Lee Riley of Bachmann that Richard was their man in China and between the two of them they were instrumental in setting up the 0n30 range. If we take the successful range of 0 gauge highly detailed models produced by Slaters, they are only two steps away from producing RTR models, assembly and finishing. Dapol have a plan, you do not invest that sort of money without working out the financial benefits to the company. Only they know the plan and we will have to wait with baited breath as to what that plan is.
  8. That is not quite correct Phil, I worked in Manufacturing producing electronic instrumentation. We had assembly lines in the plant so no one person was responsible for the assembly of each instrument, it was done in steps with the assembly aided by jigs and fixtures. Example have you seen from inside a car plant, they take seconds putting an engine or dash board into a vehicle. How long would it take for a private individual to put a dash into a car? half a day or more. All I know is that I could not work on an assembly line all day, carrying out the same operation hour after hour. Mind numbing. I do not know the town of Chirk and the employment opportunities there but what ever Dapol do in expanding their production will be beneficial to the people of the town and the local economy. Also without getting political, the Government has increased the number of nursery hours available to parents. This will release a large number of people seeking part time employment of 16-20 hours a week onto the employment market.
  9. I understand that a statement a while ago suggested that Hornby were going to bring back some of their production, whether this is true or had happened I am not privileged to that information. But generally in the manufacturing sector many UK companies are going back down that route. Good luck to Dapol, we have a moulding company near us making products for the building industry that is running shifts till 2am for 6 days a week all using local labour. The company is expanding and will soon outgrow its site. Another UK success story.
  10. I am sorry if you feel that my post was a political statement, it was not intended that way. a earlier post was submitted on the result of the 1997 election in which a claim was made that Labour won it due to shifting to the centre ground. This was true, however we had the LibDems fighting that ground as well so ended up with two parties campaigning over the same votes so it made sense to come to an agreement between the parties to go with tactical voting which proved successful.
  11. Smart meters not only send Data they also receive Data. As for criminals paying for the information, all they have to do is monitor the meter transmissions as they do at present in getting Data from your WiFi transmissions. Sit outside your house with a laptop and hack into your router.
  12. In 1995 at the local elections the Torys were swept from power from a lot of councils that they held for years, how was this done? Tactical voting by Labour and the Lib Dems voters. How do I know this, I stood as a Lib Dem Councilor in that election and went round banging doors to convince the Labour voters that their vote only let the Tory's win The result in our area was an overwhelming success for the Lib Dems and Labour results were the same in other areas. This was in an area that had been true blue for many years. This tactic was applied to the 1997 General Election and Tony Blair and Labour won an outstanding victory, we even got for the first time a Lib Dem MP. This method of voting worked well for many years until a young chap called Nick Clegg came along and formed a coalition with the old enemy. At that point I along with many others resigned from the Lib Dems and the party went into the doldrums.
  13. I totally agree at the points made here, however we all know politicians lie so do we actually have a nuclear deterrent or is it just myth? It is surrounded in secrecy, yes we see pretty pictures of the missile boats but no pictures of the missiles. The deterrent is based in Scotland who want independence so the first thing the Westminster Government would have done is to move it to a safer place so the Scots could not get their hands on it. We would all like to see better social services, a better NHS and education system, but someone has to pay for it and that someone is us the public. Look at the recent announcements from the Tory party, not exactly vote winners, hinting they are going to remove the triple lock of pensions (vote loser), increase taxes (vote loser) and keep sending large chunks of money overseas in aid (vote loser). These announcements have seen the drop in the polls for them, if the polls cannot be believed. Torper has declared he is a supporter of the SNP and obviously puts their point of view but in the present climate of Brexit we should all be pulling together as a United Kingdom to get the best for the nation as a whole. Nic and Alec are just making waves for their own political standing and do not have the interests of Scotland at heart. Have they come forward to tell the Scottish people the real cost of independence, no of course not. Those improvements in services he would like to see will not happen as Scotland would have to raise the money for them off its own back, Westminster will not be sending money North of the Border, you want to go it alone then alone it will be.
  14. A structure similar to that of Corfe Castle in Dorset would fit on that mound and look impressive. A lot of Castles fell into disuse after the Civil War and the invention of artillery. Others were converted into grand houses over the years. Many disused Castles were robbed of their stone by the locals to build their dwellings.
  15. The Tories under Maggie came close to the Normans with trying to eliminate the miners and Poll Tax protesters!
  16. That reminds me of a Citroen 2CV, cheap and cheerful.
  17. That's more like it Dave, trumpet blowing of I did this or that does not bode well. I also totally agree with your comments but what can we do as mere mortals apart from ganging together and taking the company over. I agree we need the brand to survive for the benefit for the hobby but we are not privy to the Hornby boardroom decisions. The decision is ours to decide, modelers tend to say they are going to buy many but only buy one. This gives the retailers wrong figures to feed back to the manufacturer. The people who can also change things are the shareholders, but I still say they need to get the marketing department sorted out and put in people who know the market. They also need to reduce the range and only concentrate on the items that sell well. .. Cheap models are the thing of the past and manufacturers have got to bite the bullet on this, true sales will drop but in the end it will be accepted. I feel that quality locos should be around the £300 pound for 4mm models and the quantity produced should be such that mass discounting by retailers is reduced. However do we know the answer as amateur CEO's, I think not.
  18. Hi Chaz, Yes it is good, I tend to check out the index of each issue to see if anything catches my eye it is also bi-monthly so you do not need too spend to much time ploughing through irrelevent articles. The next issue is due in May. John
  19. Hornby are producing the right models ie the Pecket, it is just getting the quantity of the batches right. Too many models for the market place result in fire sales and moans from the retailers. Regional requirements is another thing, Blue A4's and Green A3's do not sell well down here in the South, whereas Southern and GWR models do. Modern image units are just too big to run on the average layout and also too expensive. So it would appear the marketing needs looking at with smaller batches and higher prices to stop the market being flooded by cheap second hand models as in the case of the Bachmann 0n30 range. I fear that if Mr Anton gets his way will see the end of Hornby as a serious producer of model railway items and turn into a manufacturer of cheap plastic tat aimed at young children. Loconuts
  20. Yep Chaz, it is a on-line magazine, totally free but does mainly deal with SG however they do come up with some really useful scenery tips plus new 'O' scale products. John
  21. Hi Chaz Check out 'O' Scale Resources for May/June 2016, article on telegraph poles and the making of. John
  22. I agree with this, the car is a Ford Anglia or Prefect and the clothes give it away. Women's hem lines did not start to rise above the knee until the 1960's. The Ford Anglia and Prefect had a unique safety feature, vacuum operated window screen wipers. The faster you went in the rain the slower the wipers got so you had to slow down to be able to see. I can remember traveling to Hounslow from Reading in my fathers Anglia in a snow storm at about 10mph. It looks like vertical bars in the right hand window of the shop, is this where the Eccles cakes were kept and the bars were to prevent the local urchins from doing a smash and grab. Loconuts
