  1. Last time that locos were mothballed like that was 2008.
  2. Trump's new tarifs aren't going to help things. Economists are really worried.
  3. I hope nobody drowns while transporting it from the London Underground to NYC Subway.
  4. I wish. That's about 2 years away. With a 3 year old girl, model railroading will be taking a back seat to tea parties and soccer.
  5. Joe, Sorry for the confusion postings. I was just throwing it out there as brain food.
  6. Joe, I meant that you could do your own freelanced railroad in addition to your P&W layout. Bachmann 45 tonners come pre-painted, just add your own lettering. Remember, the Warwick and Moshassuck Valley railroads were short lines before the P&W absorbed them. Let's not forget the Connecticut Central as well. I'm just bringing this up for variety.
  7. It's a shame that we don't have meets like this in the United States. With more and more houses being built without basements, it's rare to see your classic model railroads. The modular groups that I see here are the "let's build a loop and run our trains round and round."
  8. Joe, you know that you can also just model another Rhode Island short line like the Narragansett Pier RR, the Mosassuck Valley RR, the Warwick RR, or the Seaview RR. All of them are charming.
  9. NO could stand for North. NONE would work. It's like the East Camden & Highland's reporting marks - EACH. Hey neighbor, I was born at Shaw AFB in Sumter.
  10. That happens more in the Northern New England areas of Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont (btw, wouldn't that make a nice name for a Northern New England Regional - MNHV).
  11. We've been missing the really hardcore storms in NYC. I'm hoping that it stays that way. If I'm not skiing on it, I don't want to see snow. I do like the shots though. Very picturesque.
  12. It's tricky with American Equipment. If you use earlier American equipment for a 3-2-2 inglenook and Peco Short radius turnouts, the long track would be 43.25 inches or 109.855 centimeters. If you curve the drill track/head shunt, you might get closer to the 40 inch limit. It would have to be an 18 inch radius or sharper.
  13. At least you have a Patriot's Super Bowl win to warm your heart. Oh wait, that didn't happen. Oh well, summer's coming...
  14. I have a question about Phase 2 EMD NW2 switchers built in 1945. Would 567A engines be in Phase 2 EMD NW2 switchers built in 1945? In later rebuilding upgrade programs, could they be upgraded to 567ACs and would they get an increase in horsepower?
  15. I'm selling off my father's O Scale stuff and it doesn't move as fast as you think that it would. I'm selling an Atlas WDT switcher now and I only have one bidder.
  16. Do you clear the cache on your computer? That also slows it down (especially videos). I've become a fan of 8 Out of 10 Cats, especially the comedy of Jimmy Carr.
  17. They're not as readily available in the US as well. I wonder if Bachmann will do another run and if it will come with a sound chip.
  18. I was happy buying code 75 track. I hope electrofrog turnouts (especially the 3 way and medium radius turnouts) are part of the lineup.
  19. Agreed Dave. I just put these 3 industries out there for car variety. It doesn't have to have all of these cars delivered at once or per week. I'm just suggesting a plausibility to running a train layout for fun, which is the real reason that we build them. Generic, even replaceable buildings are another great option.
  20. A three industry layout that I would consider consists of the following 3 industries: Food Company: Inbound - Covered hoppers, corn syrup tank cars, cooking oil tank cars, reefers, box cars, and RBLs. Outbound - RBLs Manufacturing Company: Inbound- Flat cars, box cars, gondolas, tank cars, plastic pellet hoppers, and coil cars. Outbound - Box cars, flat cars, and gondolas. Building Supply Co. Inbound - Hoppers, cement covered hoppers, flat cars, box cars, and gondolas. Outbound - None. I also have a track plan that I mull over. it fits in a 10 foot by 12 inch area. I used Atlas Snap Switch turnouts, but if you use Peco turnouts (especially a 3 way), you gain extra switch lead length. Like Prof. Klyzir mentioned, angling it a few degrees counter-clockwise would also make it visually more appealing. The lowest track could be used exclusively for building supply and car storage. I would store the locomotive on the lead to the manufacturing plant.
  21. I wonder how long Somerville will have rail served customers. I remember when you didn't go to Somerville except to get shot. Now it's big time gentrified.
  22. Atlas makes awesome locomotives. Intermountain has a lot of good ones as well. If you go on EBay, you can find a lot of nice Kato NW2s, GP35s (some with ALCO trucks), and RS-2s. Atlas yellow box RS-1s (Kato mechanisms) and S series switchers (Roco mechanisms)are smooth runners as well. There's also Proto 2000 Geeps and SW switchers out there too. Broadway Limited NW2s/SW7s are a decent bang for the buck if you get one of the earlier models. Keep an eye out for the Bachmann 45 tonners as well. They are good runners, and with their side rods, look like they are going 100 miles per hour while actually running at a crawl. The 70 tonners are also a good bang for the buck. But I will tell you that the Kato NW2s are my favorites.
  23. That's also why it's illegal. It was dangerous for anybody near the poling going on.
