  1. Two Princesses for me. One to be re(con)verted to a display memorial of my Tri-ang 'Princess Victoria', the original of which still does a nice (slow) turn of my circuit almost 50 years on. Advice as ever gratefully received.
  2. Thanks for that Pete. Picked one up yesterday.
  3. Thanks for the tip. The Eastleigh Asda seems to have stopped and the Winchester WHS and Sainsbury also.
  4. I find it quite amazing that all the major retailers in South Hampshire have given up on this series. They (WHS Asda Sainsbury) really have sunk to the lowest depths in my estimation, as all early issues sold, but the store magazine buyers can't be arsed to find the space that the bulky models/packaging occupy.
  5. Absolutely none of the GBL 45XXs to be found in the local (Eastleigh / Chandlers Ford, Winchester) ASDAs, Sainsburys, or WHSs currently. I undertook a major campaign today, but to no avail. Back to the lottery of ordering from Amercom.
  6. It would be much appreciated (by me at the very least), if you would post a link(s) to your 'Modifying RTR' threads, as I am afraid that I do have difficulties navigating the subtlieties of the forum.
  7. Sure: 0844 472 5237. I made contact after 5.00pm today, so that may explain the grumpiness, but everything appeared to be sorted on his compooter. Usual 10 day dispatch advisement. I'll keep you posted, and will continue to look out for other local outlets that I can buy from after examining anyway! Any info regarding sources in the Winchester / Southampton / Eastleigh triangle gratefully received.
  8. Still nothing in the local Asda and WHS, so I bit the bullet and ordered from a grumpy youth on the customer service line - we shall see what transpires! It did sound as though p+p was free however, so that may be a result - unless RM does it's worst.
  9. All I found prominently displayed were the Mallard partwork and a U Boat partwork. In a 'bin' lower down was an F-111 from 'Giant Warplanes' and a solitary Scorpion from 'Bugs'!
  10. This is beginning to confirm my suspicion that the local Asda may have given up. I'll give it another visit after work tomorrow.
  11. I am confused. I was convinced that the 4MT would be on sale today, but there were none at the nearest Asda - the local WHS having given up on the series two issues ago. However, no one is posting buying and viewing experiences today, so are they late? Am I going quietly mad? Are they only up for subscription now? Is no one interested in issue 15?
  12. Will you be publishing your review of the MR Compound? I know there has been a lot of discussion already, but I do enjoy your reviews.
  13. Totally agree. If you are feeling up to it, and please don't put yourself back, but your reviews are ALWAYS compulsive reading, so if you can - please post it. They always add significantly to our knowledge despite all that has previously been posted.
  14. So, looking to consensus: solvent (isopropyl alcohol or nail varnish remover) vs abrasive (toothpaste or T Cut)? Reviewing the evidence, I am leaning towards a safe and gentle solvent approach (isopropyl alcohol) - although if one favours abrasion, then nothing stronger than toothpaste. Agreed?
  15. I have definitely found toothpaste useful in clearing some fogging issues on model aircraft canopies, and would not put it in the 'daft' category, but I haven't tried it on tampo / decal removal.
  16. What do you reckon is a safe method? I read earlier in the thread that methylated spirit and cotton buds are OK.
  17. Mainly because I have spent a fair bit of time every fortnight 'agonising' over the incredibly variable quality control of the examples in Winchester WHS after reading TheWeatheringMan's extremely informative reviews before making my choice. I am not an experienced modeller and undoubtedly do not have your skills in reconstructing a badly finished example. A single mail order example is thus a complete lottery. Gareth
  18. I have just been out to Smith's in Winchester (where I have bought all mine until now), to find none at all. On questioning the staff it turns out they have decided to stop stocking them . I am not sure where the next nearest stockist might be, so I guess I will have to consider the pot luck of subscription. Bad day!
  19. My apologies for inadvertently causing some disquiet on a Sunday. Thanks again to all of you for your excellent advice and input.
  20. Thank you Darrel, Sarah and TWM for your very helpful advice and information. I will now go ahead with ordering. Gareth
  21. Much appreciated advice, thank you. I suspected that the green / blue backgrounds were to avoid having to remove the original marking. I will probably go with the Fox Transfers, and will cross check the size tomorrow. Gareth
  22. Thank you for the tip. I have found decals for the lining stripes (which I suspect will cause me much heartache in application!), and the numbers (?Wolf seem best), but the only correct BR later crests I could find on the site appear to be on either green or blue sheets. I assume I will need crests on a black background, so any pointers would be gratefully received. Gareth
