Due to circumstance beyond our control, Huddersfield Railway Modellers regret to announce that our forth coming annual exhibition has been cancelled. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. We are, however, having a two day open weekend in our club rooms at Union Mills, Tanyard Road, Milnsbridge, Huddersfield HD3 4NB on the same weekend, Saturday the 27th October and Sunday 28th October from 10.am to 4.pm on both days. Admission will be free, refreshments available, ample parking, visiting layouts and trade support. Regrettably there is no disabled access to the club rooms. Once again we would like to offer our sincere apologies for any inconvenience the cancellation was only decided on after much heart searching and desperate attempts to find a suitable alternative venue.     Bus services to the venue are X63 and 363. Bust stop close to both Huddersfield and Brighouse railway stations. The X63 does not operate on Sundays.

  16. The development work to Huddersfield Railway Modellers' club rooms is now coming along apace. The extension is finished and we have almost completed the installation of a false ceiling to prevent fall of grott and grime onto the layouts. Huddersfield Railway Modellers must now have one of the biggest club rooms in the country. Along with the floor space for six large layouts in all scales including 16mm live steam. We have a library, lounge, with the latest electronic sound and vision projection system and a kitchen with a 5 star hygiene certificate. There are now have no less than four new layouts under construction or in the planning stage: Colne Valley 2mm finescale, Dewsbury Wellington Road,4mm 16.5 mm gauge finescale, a large "O" gauge continuous run layout at the advanced planning stage and Weybridge on Sea, a large 4mm finescale end to end based on Southern Railway/ GW practice If you are in the area come and see us any Thursday night..

The layout is 34' x 5' (Layout Owners: Huddersfield Railway Modellers) Burnham on Sea This is a 2mm N gauge layout based on the actual location on the Somerset and Dorset line. The viewing area is 10 feet long. (Layout owner: Alistair Knox) Ringburn Yard A '00' gauge layout with the period based on the Scottish Fife Region in the late 1980's. The viewing area is 9'6" in length (Layout owner Alex Hall). Irgendwohn im Allgau Another 2mm N gauge layout which this time is based in the South West of Germany . It is a continuous loop layout, the viewing area measuring 12 feet. (Layout owner John Brady). Rowntree Halt A 00 gauge layout depicting the branch to the Rowntree factory from the Foss Islands branch. The period is 1950 to 1960. The viewing area is 13 feet with an overall length of 29 feet. (Layout owner: The Ebor group of railway modellers, layout manager, Jim Whithead). Lydgate An '0' gauge layout, based upon a small through station, set in the 1960's. ( Layout owner: Huddersfield Railway Modellers). North of England Line This is a 2mm N gauge layout, of a fictitious location which allows for the running of trains from different periods. LMS/LNER stock usually runs on the Saturday and BR stock on the Sunday . The scenic area is 18'long. (Layout owners: Scarborough and District Railway Modellers). Cripps Bottom Yard A '00' gauge layout based on a fictitious location near Rugby set in 1957. (Layout owner: Keith Armitage). Coombe Rock & Minerals An 0N30 scale 16.5mm gauge layout set in the Wild West of America in the Arizona Monument Valley in the early 1900's (Layout owner: Brian Mosby) Longwood A 2mm finescale layout based upon the area around Milnsbridge in the Colne Valley.   20. Thanks for that. I was aware of Scottish locos being used in England, especially those shedded at Manningham, but I was particularly interested in there use on service trains from Carlisle and you seem to have answered that.
  21. The question is how far south. Did the get to Hellifield and beyond or Lancaster, Preston etc.

  24. Huddersfield Railway Modellers 4mm Fine Scale Group are building a new layout based on Dewsbury Wellington Road. The layout will be a continuous run approx 24ft x 10ft built to fine scale exhibition standards. All trackwork in the scenic area will be SMP code 75, 16.5mm gauge with hand built point work. Some base boards and building have already been built but we have a long way to go, and would love to hear from any one interested in getting involved, experienced or new modellers equally welcome. Our present layout, Hebden Bridge has been well received at numerous exhibitions around the country and is booked to appear at Bradford, Wharley and Doncaster next year.
