  1. Looking good. To help with a lack of soldering skill (which I also suffer with) I use these on the ends of my droppers and these on my bus cables. I still have quite a lot at home so you would be welcome to steal some to try out if you wanted. Gary

  3. My subscription King only arrived today despite getting 4771 and the Caley Single already. Along with my subscription HST! Gary
  4. Me. I do that with most partworks that I get
  5. Spent 20 mins trying to find a short in my wiring. Turns out I'd left the cable strippers across the tracks

you were simply testing the safety aspects of your system to see if the fully worked - nudge nudge no mistakes were made he he

Oh yes. Felt like a right "Richard Head". I like this testing the safety aspects excuse tho. I think I'll stick with that

  6. Just taken delivery of a new soldering iron. Must be time to wire the layout

  7. I think we would be lucky if they had that many
  8. Still dealing with a backlog of dispatches apparently.
  9. I spoke to those wonderfully useful people at GBL about the same issue earlier and apparently they have been delayed sending things out as they have run out of binders but couldn't tell me any more than that. Gary
  10. And here was me thinking I was the only one Gary
  11. Fair enough there is some very nice liveries about. A friend of mine works on the ramp at Gatwick for Servisair. He doesn't particularly like them but apparently "being around the planes is worth it."
  12. Welcome Mark, I take it from your modelling interests you like your employer Gary
  13. To clarify I meant that I believe Hornby used the older Tri-ang tooling for the later special edition kit with no modifications. The Dapol kit to me (remembering that I haven't actually bothered to build it as I only wanted the crew) Looks much better detailed especially on the tender.
  14. I brought the Dapol kit from eBay and used the crew from that for mine. I have also been tempted to build the kit and replace some of the original parts as they seem better detailed that the original model although I have the Tri-ang version I image the same tooling was used. Gary
  15. Hi Dave, The natural light makes a huge difference to the appearance I still agree that the last one with the 50/50 mix is the best. It looks very real in the sunlight. Gary
  16. Welcome Switcher. Good to have you here. That's a nice selections of gauges you have going on.
  17. First a pic of the body and the chassis I used as its the only one I can find of the chassis before I did anything to it. The chassis was taken from a GWR Pannier that had a smoke unit and all I did to this was remove the smoke unit. The same effect could be achieved by taking a hacksaw to a solid chassis. and another showing the amount I had to cut away from the Jinty body although this doesn't show the fact I had to remove all the plastic on the underside of the firebox to fit the motor (I forgot to photo that and now the body is glued together and I can't manage to get a good picture atm). I then removed the brakegear from the GBL Chassis and attached the brakes to the Tri-ang Chassis. I had to remove the brake rods as these would not fit around the wheels I added some plastic to the brakes and attached some brass to represent the brake gear. And the best pic I can manage to get of the model as it stands now Still to do is to add a crew to try and hide what can be seen of the motor and give it a paint Still it has some silver tyres on the wheels giving it that GBL feel lol. EDIT: the mark you can see on the side of the smokebox is a bit of blue-tack holding the smokebox door on which I haven't glued yet as I plan on adding some weight into it to compensate for the lost weight of the smoke unit. Gary
  18. As this discussion started about a 4-6-4T and how odd it might look I just thought I would point out for those that don't know that there was a British 4-6-4T built by the LB&SCR in 1914 see Wikipedia article here Also if anyone is interested in seeing it I have motorised the GBL Jinty with an old Tri-ang chassis that I had lying around. Gary
  19. Hailsham - Currently on hold Engine Shed - Design work in progress draft 2 has been posted - Set in the late 60's as a steam shed with basic diesel facilities added.
  20. I had a great time helping run trains on Saturday. What a great layout it is! I look forward to seeing progress and of course coming to help again sometime in the future.
  21. Butties and tea thrown in! I'll have to let you know once I finally sort out a new car
  22. bescotbeast I would be happy to come and lend a hand but unfortunately while it would only take me 15 - 20 mins to drive to Newhaven I scrapped my car last month and haven't got a new one yet, and I imagine it would take me significantly longer to walk it.
  23. Hi, Yes I have checked the sticky posts. I am currently interested in joining a model club and have been told by another member who is local to me that I should look at the Newhaven group as it is the best one nearby. I will also send him a message nudging him in the direction of this group as he is very knowledgeable and used to run the Eastbourne MRC once upon a time.
  24. Hi, I'm Gary from Hailsham in East Sussex. I'm currently in the process of buying the last few bits before starting my layout. I model 00 and have plans for a 009 layout at some point in the future. I have decided on modeling a fictional island somewhere of the coast of England in the late 60's to give me as much modeling license as I like (Can't imagine where I might of got that idea). I will mostly run steam although I do also have a couple of diesels (Hornby Class 06 and a Triang Class 101 DMU) and I will probably expand my diesels at some point in the future. Most of my stock is older than me but has been in my family since it was new so will always have a home on my layout. If I were to model something from real life it would have to be something from the Brighton to Hastings line in the late 19th or early 20th century. or possibly the Hayling Island branch in BR days as my favorite loco class is the A1(X) Terrier.
