  1. Done quite a lot this evening, track weathering, concrete handstand is and the ground for the arc welding scene
  2. Thanks everyone! Another thing that I've tried my hand at for the first time is 3D printing. I designed a low relief site cabin on Sketchup and exported it as an STL file. Thankfully my colleague at work has kindly printed my design on his 3D printer. I look forward to painting it up and putting it in along the back scene.
  3. Done some ballasting, quite happy with it but definitely needs to be made very mucky! I also love the Balfour Beatty sentinel, so glad I got this little loco!
  4. Really like this idea! I suspect a lot of rust will be present!
  5. Managed to get a snap of the welding in action, quite pleased with how it’s came out!
  6. Thanks Bo-Bo, much appreciated! I thought I’d share some closed up of the arc welding scene, which I feel is starting to come together rather nicely.
  7. Things are starting to sit where I visioned them. Not sure what ground cover to have beneath the the sleepers, and arc welded section. Possibly thinking of a general earth look with some weeds dotted about.
  8. Diorama is now really starting to take shape! Excuse the blu tac!
  9. Some arc welders have decided to turn up today! look forward to creating this scene!
  10. I just think this is stunning and very atmospheric! I love how the front blends into the back scene.
  11. I’ve had a few items arrive yesterday. Notably the scale model scenery construction blocks and pallets. I’ve also started the long process of cutting individual sleepers from a length of concrete track to form the pile of sleepers at the line side.
  12. You’ll have to excuse the ‘big sister’ layout here! But the loco in shot most certainly will be the centrepiece of my cake box layout. I’ve given the BB sentinel a weathering to try and bring it to life. I’ve tried to base it on the few photos of a BB sentinel that I’ve seen and various other sentinels in different liveries.
  13. Those are awesome Lyddal and really helpful indeed! Thanks for posting!
  14. Thanks guys! I’m very impressed with the sentinel, a touch of weathering may just help bring it to life a bit more. I've also found an excuse to do a BB Rail Land Rover if I fancied mixing up the diorama a little.
  15. Thank you Marly51! Yes I’m looking into getting some shots of a plant yard, just a question of which one to choose! I’ve also had these turn up today which has made me very excited to get going! Scale model scenery diorama board for the base Hornby Balfour Beatty Sentinel The Sentinel makes my Class 06 seem large, never really grasped how small they actually were until now! Ideal for a project like this though!
  16. Hi all, I really like the idea of an industrial area as a cakebox theme and have really gotten into the idea of building a scene of my own. My role at work as a Digital Engineer with Balfour Beatty is to work out what can be placed within tight spaces in the real world, so thought why not have a go at 1/76 of the scale? Naturally as I work for Balfour Beatty, I've opted to go for a 'Construction/Infrastructure' scene! My inspiration has came from a quick internet search online where I've seen a Balfour Beatty Sentinel shunter sitting between various bits of rail and stacked sleepers in Sandiacre. I really like the idea of a little shunter meandering its way through heavy plant and I'm hoping within the 8 inch square, I can create something faithful to what I've seen. I'm intending on placing long lengths of rail and several stacks of sleepers alongside the permanent way. I'm also debating on whether to have an arc welder cutting rail on the railside. The photo in question is on someone else's post regarding 'Industrial Shunters' with this link here I've knocked up a few ideas on SketchUp. I've popped a BR Class 06 in just for scale purposes, but the plan will be to use the orange Balfour Beatty Sentinel that Hornby made a few years ago I'm leaning towards either the second or third version, but would like to here your thoughts!
