  1. Too cold at the moment for me to be cycling. Confined to the garage working on my new layout which is based on a China Clay Pelleting Plant. Stay safe, Roger
  2. I keep my riding on the roads to a minimum and use them only to get to the Tarka Trail, which used to be the Barnstaple to Torrington railway line or in the other direction it goes to Braunton using part of the Barnstaple to Ilfracombe line. Abuse occasionally comes from pedestrians who are walking their dogs on those leads that extend to about a half a mile. The secret is not to take derogatory comments to heart - just raise two fingers and carry on that way you do not get too wound up and the ride is more enjoyable! Stay safe, Roger
  3. Hi Ray, I have only just read the posts on this thread and they strike a chord with me. I started 7mm some 16 months ago and have three layouts at the moment. A Micro Layout, a 9' x 18" end to end and a 24' x 9' 'U' shaped layout in my loft. I have found that the two smaller layouts get used more often due to their user friendly size. I use 3 link couplings and have found I was spending more time walking up and down the loft uncoupling wagons than I was actually operating the layout. I made the layout into a 'U' to enable me to turn around and uncouple stock. I have never tried Dinham Couplings and believe there is an alternative option that is compatible with Dingham called Flippem. Dingham are, I believe going to be produced by the Gauge O Guild and the Flippem by a Gauge O guild member. It may be worth your while having a look at the Gauge O Guild website and also the 7mm Scale Society if you have not already done so. The members of the 7mm Scale Society have helped and encouraged me a lot . Have a look at my two small layouts - Pascoe's Siding and Landkey Yard both have YouTube videos and can be accessed through the Layouts threads on the 7MM scale Society site. All the best and I look forward to more of your posts. Stay safe Roger
  4. Hi again 62613, Thanks for taking the trouble to reply to my post. I think we are going to have to agree to disagree on this history issue. As I see it History is something that happened in the past be it two minutes ago or two hundred years ago. The interpretaion is made after the event. We do not project what is happening this instant into what may or may not occur in the future. We can do this only with the benefit of hindsight and thus interpret the cause of the actions as suits our particular narrative. As an example: If I climb a ladder and fall off it I only know that I have fallen off after the event.Under normal circumstances I do not climb it with the intention of falling off. Again the interpretaion is why I fell off! Stay safe Roger
  5. I am not sure I agree with you on this 62613. In my opinion:- History is fact and events are not interpretations. Events are history itself and actually happened the reason for the events occurence is open to interpretarion, not the event itself. We cannot change events which happened in the past but we can learn from them. Slavery still exists in the World and here in the UK.and it is to this we should be more concerned. I have heard no reports or protests about the current situation which no doubt is a more uncomfortable conversation. The reason why we have no protests or political dialogue about this fact is open to interpretaion. Stay safe, Roger
  6. Hi Ian. Yes I was referring to the 'mail order' aspect of this process and indeed if I were a retailer sending out items of high value I would be checking them before dispatch to cover my back if no-one elses. I buy many items via mail order from a well known model railway retailer and they are well packaged and to date no damage has occurred to anything I have ordered. It is simplistic - and I am sorry you feel insulted but this is not a popularity contest and I have given my opinion on the subject, which I have every right to. Stay safe, Roger
  7. I hope Simon Kohler is following this thread and perhaps as one respondent said in an earlier post Hornby would like to comment on the condition some of the models are in when received by the final customer in the chain. If we keep accepting this state of affairs it will never be addressed - fire a letter or email to Hornby complaining. Stay safe, Roger
  8. I have been reading the posts on this thread and have noticed their similarity to concerns on other websites relating to our hobby. Not all are attributed to Hornby or a specific model. I have returned to the hobby after a break of some 30 years, and it appears this receiving damaged goods through the post was not as prevalent 30 years ago when as a rule models were purchased in person from a local model shop. In todays retail climate the use of couriers and the postal service is becoming the norm and notwithstanding the distance the models travel from manufacturer to the customer, it is no surprise that occurences of damage on receipt. I have also noticed that the lighter items such as rolling stock do not attract the same criticism although their transit conditions have been the same. Packaging is no doubt a relevant contributor to the state the goods arrive in and it is to the sender of the goods that we must look to for the remedy. I suspect that the majority of damage occurs here in the UK with the exception of that caused during packing at the manufacturers. Unless the retailers up thier game I am afraid we will have to accept things as they are. In my opinion a letter to the seller along with the goods returned would go a long way to putting this issue to rest. Stay safe, Roger Roger
  9. Hi Exmoordave, I suspect you are right but at least he didn't just get a slap on the wrist and community service. Stay safe, Roger
  10. I'm surprised this chap got 5 years given that his defence said “A lengthy custodial sentence will have a significant impact on his mental state. He deeply regrets what he has done and expects to be punished.” Playing the mental health card seems to be getting very fashionable these days as a get out clause for not being responsible for your own actions. He deserves eveything he got. Fair play to the judge. Stay safe, Roger
  11. Hi Hobby, Thanks for taking the time to post the links. I have read the contents of the documents, whilethey go someway to answering my question, and notwithstanding the agreement of the agencies concerned I am not convinced that this methodology is sound. It is my opinion that this way of calculating has been engineered for reasons other than to convey the true nature of the beast. I feel that the figure of deaths should be attributed to Covid 19 only and not using the within 28 days anomaly. The calculation is too 'broad brush'. Someone dying of pneumonia is not included in the 'deaths on the road' figure because they used the public highway for some reason in the last 28 days, there is no reason why they should be and similarly the same with the Covid death figures. I am going to leave it there on this emotive and devisive subject. Stay safe Roger
  12. Hi Reorte and others, I do not agree with you regarding people having been given the facts but do agree with you regarding the different agendas and complete nonsense we are fed, and in my opinion this is where the problem regarding this pandemic lies. For example If someone can tell me why the figures in respect of deaths relating to Covid 19/and or it variants include people who have been tested positive within the last 28 days before their demise. I cannot recall hearing an explanation for the reasoning behind this 28 day figure. I cannot think of any other reporting of deaths where the reason has been attributed to an event that took place 28 days before the death occured. Until I hear a sound argument for the methodology I see no reason for the figures to be calculated with this 28 day previous anomaly. To make an informed decision regarding vaccination individuals need the facts not what might or might not occur but what has occurred because of Covid. The only certainty at the moment is the vulnerabiity of certain groups and of course these people would be the ones expected to have the vaccination along with anyone else who wished to be innoculated. Stay safe Roger
  13. I have had all three of the jabs and must say on every occasion the process was carried out efficiently. However, I do think that the decision to have or have not is down to the individual. The amount of contradictory information about Covid 19 and it's variants along with the effects on age groups etc does not help the argument for vaccination at all. Perhaps if we were given the true facts then either side of the argument could argue their case in a more educated manner. Stay safe Dodger
