  1. First of all, thanks for all the likes. Thanks also to gismorail for your comment about the space, I don't like to crowd in too much track and as I usually use 3 link couplings tight curves are not an option in fact I'm pushing it with what I've got. I am not bound by a particular time period, I run what I like. On the whole I have amassed a decent collection of motive power and freight stock but I will be the first to admit that coaching stock is poor, I will go into more detail in a future post along with more photos. Over the years I have never found building coaches as appealing as locos, but I have built a couple of rakes of Barry six wheelers. Sorry about that ChrisF! I will be at Nottingham over the weekend with a club layout Sutton in Ashfield Town so if you're there feel free to say hello. Being in a club has many benefits but it does divide the modelling time. By the way if I'm asked what class is that Eastern Region 0-6-0 I'll no doubt tell you that I don't know, they all look the same to me. Brian
  2. I have been a member of RMWeb for a while now and have enjoyed reading about different layout, in particular and in no order, A Nod to Brent, Much Murkle, Porthkerry Viaduct and Little Muddle so I thought it about time I posted my layout. Model railways have been my hobby for all of my life so in that time I have built up a decent collection of models both RTR and kit built with a few scratch built efforts. My user name should explain my inspiration and apart from a few years modelling 7mm narrow gauge I have now returned to my roots. Once both my wife and I had retired the opportunity to put a layout into the garage became possible thinking that I would have plenty of space. Wrong, the usable space is roughly 10' x 10' so out went the pipe dreams and I settled for a single track with a passing station with a goods yard, there is also a junction with lines going to different destination. The line is supposed to be an imaginary ex Barry Railway branch somewhere between the Barry main line (not the Cardiff line!) and Llantrisant so the site would now be covered by the M4. All very unlikely but it is somewhere to run trains. I must admit that I spend much more time building stock than running and although the layout is basically complete it does need a lot more detailing. For those who are interested the control is analogue and uses Peco code 75 track with points operated by wire in tube via slider switches, I have tried to keep things simple. I hope the photos give you some idea of the layout.(Assuming that my first attempt at posting photos has worked). Brian Hunt

  4. This looks a very interesting project Stu. Porthkerry has always been a favourite part of Barry for me and I remember it from the days of steam and first generation DMUs. One day I must follow your example and post some of my efforts which have been heavily influenced by having Grandparents who lived in Barry overlooking the Vale of Glamorgan line. Brian Hunt
  5. On seeing this topic I remembered that several ex Barry Railway locos were sold to industry, mainly collieries, by the GWR. I decided to refer to the RCTS part 10 to find out how many, the results were surprising. Class Sold Built Last in service A 0-6-0T 3 5 1(699) 1962 B 0-6-2T 1 25 27(227) 1960 B1 0-6-2T 2 42 60(251) 1957 E 0-6-0T 3 5 33(781) 1960 F 0-6-0ST 22 28 138(780) 1964 What a shame that none of them made it to preservation. 6. Thanks for your comments Michael. As you probably noticed, there is work in progress at the venue which will include lowering the ceiling in the main hall which probably explains why so many of the lights were not working. We have three OO layouts at the club and all are 'work in progress' to a greater or lesser extent and one of the jobs we are looking at is a lighting rig which can be used for all of the layouts. We'll be back at the Summit Centre next year on 13th and 14th October, we are never sure until nearer the time what space we will have available but the staff there are always very pleasant and helpful. Brian
  7. Ashfield Town and Sutton in Ashfield Town are both packed and ready to go. Hopefully there will be RMWebbers attending the show this weekend so please come and say hello. You will probably find me on the Club sales stand, no idea yet what there will be to part you from some cash but it will be a bargain. Brian Hunt
  8. It was great to see Much Murkle again,a very inspiring layout and it was good to have chance to talk to Nick. I must improve my scenery instead of building locos, slowly. Thanks to Robin for posting the photos. Brian
  9. I can answer part of that question as we are expecting Annesley Woodhouse at the Elizabethan Railway Society exhibition next weekend. Details are on the exhibition pages. Personally, I am looking forward to seeing the layout as Mansfield Woodhouse is my local station. Brian Hunt

  13. Thanks for posting the photo of Ambleside Tony, I never realised just how impressive it looks from that angle. We were very pleased that you thought that our efforts were worthy of your time especially as we know full well that there is an awful lot still to do on the layout. Brian Hunt on behalf of the Elizabethan Railway Society.
  14. I have just received an e-mail supposedly from HMRC saying that I am due a tax refund and asking for my personal details. HMRC has confirmed that this is a phishing scam and I have forwarded them the e-mail so that they can investigate. Be careful, any refund would be negative. Brian
  15. An excellent exhibition and all of the layouts were of a high standard, I must admit that I kept finding myself back at Westcliff. As always there was good trade support and I topped up on bits and pieces and I got home feeling inspired. I even met a fellow Barry Railway modeller. Well done to all involved. Brian
  16. I believe the Lester kits are now with Derek Harris of Redcraft but they are etches only. The list of Redcraft kits that I have does not include the Taff Vale A. I will double check when I have chance. Brian
  17. I spoke to Paul this evening and mentioned this post. His phone numbers haven't changed but he does have a new e-mail address following computer problems. Try. pbarker2016(at)outlook.com Hope this helps, Brian.
