  1. Another enjoyable episode. Three of us watching at home and we each picked a different layout as the winning one. Well done all. PL.
  2. The short answer is no, but that's only me, I'm sure that there are many who thought it good value. I'll build it anyway and if nothing else it'll be good practice at building and weathering a card kit. PL.
  3. I guess that I'm a bit late to this thread but I today bought my copy of BRM, brought it home, opened the wrapper, looked at the cover and the DVD is missing! After rechecking that it wasn't tucked inside the magazine, opening the card kit to see if it's inside, blame the missus for removing it....but it really is missing. Feeling a bit 'miffed' I checked RMweb to see if anyone else is missing one too and find its not just me. I've now read the complete thread about marketing (yawn), electronic version (tried it but didn't like it), subscriber option (maybe soon), added content, links to create an account in order to get one posted (more passwords) and despite all the logic and reasons the DVD is missing I still feel disappointed it's not there. Maybe irrational but there you have it. I like the magazine so it won't stop me from buying it, nor will a missing DVD change my life but I simply liked watching it...not this month though. Even Mrs PL feels a bit let down. PL.
  4. Only my opinion, and for what it's worth, I thought tonight's episode was the best so far, I thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment. Unfortunately my money was on Steampunk but Mrs PL picked the winner. PL.
  5. .....and the unfortunate result of the above 'bounce'. Location is Khartoum and the event was a military training flight culminating in a formation landing. I'm lead to believe that the crew aboard the second Antonov, which bounced multiple times, didn't survive.
  6. I know that's it's been some time but we finally had the roof done, and what a massive difference it has made. The conservatory is now a fully functional room with a huge improvement in temperature control - both in winter and summer - along with significantly better noise deadening. Be warned though it isn't cheap! Thanks for all the tips and here's a before and after pic. PL. PS. I don't know how to rotate the second pic.....sorry.
  7. It looks ruddy lovely, I'm very much looking forward to getting mine:)
  8. That'll be why the off side one don't work proper Joking aside, most of the switches, ancillaries, running gear etc., are off the shelf bits from Ford, Vauxhall and Rover.
  9. Did someone mention V8's? After eight years of working abroad and now that I'm back home, I decided to treat myself to a new toy...a TVR Chimaera 400. It is 19 yrs old so I guess it counts as an 'old car'. I'm still getting used to it and, if I'm honest, the performance still scares me a bit (no driver aids!) but the noise it makes is outstanding.
  10. Doha, Qatar, during the very short rainy season!
  11. Now that's an interesting question, I'm right handed but use my left for the side-stick. I don't have any difficulty with this arrangement but that could be simple familiarity after being on the 'bus (320, 330, now 350) for the last 14yrs. I don't recall any trouble when I first moved to the 'bus, either. However, when we undertake our six-monthly simulator check Captains are required to take part of the check in the righthand seat, as part of the RHS qualification in order to operate from either seat, and I find myself 'over controlling' despite being right handed. PL..
  12. Bingo! A7-ANA, the first -1000 delivered and brought into service on 24th Feb. I flew it to Heathrow (LHR) yesterday, it makes me only the 3rd post delivery skipper on the planet to fly it......and just 3 weeks before I jack it all in.
  13. Narrowing the field but still not there yet.
  14. Interesting similarities with the wheel arrangement but not correct.
  15. Helos, un-natural things, wings should be firmly attached to the fuselage and not wizzing around over your head.
  16. Anyone care to hazard a guess at the aircraft type and series? Sorry but no prizes ( or beasting if incorrect;) )
  17. From the Rapido News: "We still expect to have completed production models on display at the Warley National Model Railway Exhibition during the last weekend of November and we are doing our best to ensure that pre-order customers will receive their models before Christmas." Do we know if the above timeframe for delivery is still on target? PL.
  18. On a slightly positive note, regarding the demise of Monarch, Virgin Atlantic and Easyjet have both opened direct recruitment for the (ex)Monarch crew. Ryan will be holding open days at the bases where Monarch had aircraft, should anyone decide to turn up . Norwegian, SAS and Wizz are all hiring plus, BA(IAG), as previously mentioned, have expressed an interest in buying the lot. Other airlines have shown interest in picking up the bits of Monarch that fit with their business. It seems the pilots, at least, will not be unemployed for too long..and without having to upsticks and move to the sandpit (like me!) or the Far East.
  19. Oh dear, oh dear, In today's Telegraph...Ryanair to cancel another 400000 bookings (in addition to the 315000 already announced) and ground 25 aircraft between Oct and Mar. There's also additional info on how much this will cost Ryan and the associated drop in annual pax numbers. Normal winter schedule, very unlikely! I know it's wrong but I find myself being amused by Ryan's current troubles
  20. Ryanair woes part II. Very often the pilots that are flying for Ryanair are not employed by Ryanair but work through an agency such as Brookfield or Storm McGinley. This keeps cost at a minimum for Ryan as they can now avoid additional employment costs such as taxation, NI and pensions along with the associated administrative costs. The pilot is now personally responsible for his or her tax returns in whichever country they are based. There are also different agency contracts given to the pilots, therefore the situation does arise where pilots at the same base, doing the same job are on very different terms. Even though the pilot is classified as self employed they are specifically excluded from working for anyone else. This is largely driven by an annual limit of 900 (1000 in some countries) flying hours and if they flew for another carrier it would limit the number of hours the said pilot could fly for Ryan. By far the vast majority of pilots who fly for Ryan (84%) would prefer to be properly employed by them and have a genuine employment contract appropriate to the country they are based in. Ryan have been vehemently resisting this. Additionally, Ryan are adamant that they will not recognise any unions or other collective representation for the pilot group. This, of course, leads to a great deal of dissatisfaction amongst the pilot group and when those earlier, inexperienced pilots gain some real experience, they move elsewhere. When the, now more experienced, pilot moves elsewhere it creates a vacancy which Ryan will fill with a new cadet and the company makes another €30000....and so the Ryanair money machine rolls on! Right now Ryan have large expansion plans (their whole business model is built on continuos expansion) and will require around 600 pilots before next spring and, some have suggested, 3300 pilots over the next 6 years (not including leavers). Unfortunately for Ryanair the airline industry is currently fairly buoyant for pilot hiring and there are lots of choices for both experienced and cadet pilots out there. Given the above many view Ryan as a last, desperate choice! It's not surprising they're short of pilots. You'll all be pleased to know there's no part III
  21. See my post num 94 re touchdown(landing). A bounce is different requiring a particular recovery technique. See my post num 144 re safety. I'd put Lulsgate on a par with Leeds Bradford for daftness
