  1. So many, so many! Pontop crossing bridge over the river Don, where once mighty 9F's and Q6's rumbled across en route to Consett from Tyne Dock... ….and further down the line Washington station, the junction between the Leamside and Consett lines Scotswood railway bridge, and the remains of the station. Victoria Viaduct on the mothballed Leamside line. Hownesgill Viaduct near Consett. The magnificent viaducts on the Derwent Walk. Riccarton Junction. The remains of Border Counties bridge at Hexham. Hagg Bank bridge at Wylam, Tyne Valley line. The roadside reminders of the Border Counties, Wansbeck and Allendale branches in Northumberland. The bridges at Dunston riverside. The abandoned control tower at Tyne Yard. The stump of Carville signal box in Wallsend. The couple of remaining blackened buildings at the former Gateshead shed/works. The little over birdge beneath the King Edward bridge in Gateshead that once carried the original Newcastle and Carlisle line. The ghostly abutments of the overbridge from the line that never was to Seaton Sluice. And last but not least the 'tombstone' markers alongside the Waskerley Way which are marked 'S & D' - Stockton and Darlington!
  2. Pipework problem solved . If anyone else is considering Tyne Dock conversions the pipe goes straight in at the outlet on the fireman's side of the manifold as I suspected. Handily I found a sample scan of the actual air pump equipment drawing from Brighton works on the NRM website. SL BR 1416 is the reference. It also shows the correct shaping of the pipes that run under the boiler from pumps to reservoir (which I've got wrong but near enough!). http://www.nrm.org.uk/researchandarchive/drawing?group=British%20Railways%20standard%20classes&objid=SL-BR-1416-Pt1 It's a thumbnail but big enough to read. It's £25 to buy full size. However I managed to learn what I needed from the small scan.
  3. I'm just assuming it came straight out of the fireman's side of the manifold as I can't find anything clear enough either.
  4. Hi, I'm new here, and had posted this elsewhere before I was pointed to this thread. I know this contains a question but I don't know where else to ask it (I don't really understand forums too well yet). I'm gathering materials for a Tyne Dock 9F conversion or two and amongst my research material is the '9F in detail' book which is a terrific resource. BUT. Can anyone out there shed light where the steam pipe from the westinghouse pumps connected to the steam manifold on top of the firebox? Anyone have a pic? I've trawled Google images and found nothing, and every reference I've found to doing the conversion (even Dave Alexander's otherwise excellent instruction sheet) don't include this connection and every conversion I've seen pics of show the pipe disappearing up somewhere near the whistle. I've looked at a drawing of the BR manifold and couldn't see a spare outlet where the pipes would connect but I'm assuming there would be a steam heating connection not utilised on the 9F's?
