  1. How very sad to read this, Gee Dee's was my childhood shop until my family moved away from Nottingham in the 80's. I wish everyone at the shop health and good luck for the future.
  2. Thanks Dave. I'm away now until next week but will then try a similar photo to what you have. Really good photo by the way, thanks. From the photo yours do look brighter. Will post next week.
  3. Thanks for the replies. I do value and respect the need for accurate modelling but my point on this occasion is that the interior lights are SOOO dim that even in a completely darkened room you really cannot tell they are lit. I agree we don't want lighthouses or Christmas lights, but there is a compromise to be had between "bright" and "dim" so you can tell something is there surely. Also, if I take this argument to its extreme, the front lights ARE like laser beams and the route display panel is so "blue LED bright" they would never have looked like that. sigh.... I need a darkened room now, model put back in the cupboard
  4. I've has this response; Thank you for your enquiry: the lights in the early DMU models are intended to be representative of the tungsten bulbs that the real units were fitted with - they don't light up like the proverbial 'Christmas tree' and it's not possible to increase the brightness unless the function output of decoder has already been dimmed - CV 63, default (and maximum) value of 7. Additionally the dimensions of the motor and its block do encroach a little into the passenger area of the motor brake coach. I've checked CV63 and both decoders are set to 7. So back to where I started, pretty rubbish to me, they may as well not be fitted at all, sorry.
  5. Thanks, have dropped them an email so I'll see what they come back with.
  6. Sadly the lit saloon is so dim I cannot take a meaningful photograph. The LED's in the roof are all lit and all pickups / wheels etc. are clean. There are is no flicking or stuttering motor to indicate any kind of pickup problems. Even in a dark room the interior is so poorly lit that only I can tell there is "something". If this was the prototype it would be like being lit by a couple of candles! Looks like I should contact Bachmann. To be honest though I do feel its working to their "specification" however, if so, it really is a waste of time hence my original question if anyone had found an easy way to improve, eg by changing the value of the LED dropper resistor.
  7. On this DMU f0 controls both the interior and direction/destination lights. The direction/destination lights are quite bright so believe the decoder is OK.
  8. I've got the DCC fitted class 105 DMU and the interior lights work but are so dim that even in darkness you cannot really tell they are on. Is there an easy mod to brighten them up a bit?

    Dapol 'Western'

Mine was the Dapol 4D-003-003 D1056 'Western Sultan' in Maroon. I would certainly recommend giving all yours a good test to avoid any disappointment later on.

    Dapol 'Western'

I ended up getting a refund on mine. Both my bogie leading wheels had "fresh air" under them and constantly derailed. It will be a long time before I have the confidence to buy another Dapol, which is a shame. In the end I got a second hand Hornby Western, yes I know, but at least its a confident runner. I'm actually quite pleased with it
  12. I agree, my respect for that seller has gone way way down! I've bought items from them in the past but are they now that desperate! ..and what a load of spin about the broken roof - what a load of ......

    Dapol 'Western'

Thanks for the replies. Have tried all the suggestions including those I could find in this thread. Sadly I've not got the problem resolved but found that the when the loco was put onto a flat surface, that the front wheelset (which are derailing), were not touching the surface. ie I could see daylight under them! I am therefore sure this is the problem! In any case it does not look as though l can resolve this so the friendly store I purchased it from has agreed for me to return it for a refund. So, nearly had a Dapol but based on this and also the fact that the cab lights are soooo bright, I've decided to stay away from Dapol for now. Really disappointed

    Dapol 'Western'

Just got my first ever Dapol model, the OO Western and but unfortunately I am having problems in that it almost constantly derails over point work, even at slow speeds. It seems to be when the "front" bogie is leading that the problems occurs i.e. the first wheel set fails to negotiate the points. I tried unclipping the front valance to ensure that nothing was interfering with the bogie movement but it made no difference. The bogie does appear free to rotate, having read similar derailing problems in this thread. For reference I'm using standard Hornby track from 2013 and have almost 60 other locos, none of which have problems with my points. This Dapol model is having real problems though. Have checked the wheels B2B and looks OK. Can anyone suggest a fix for this problem?
  18. Just to clarify my post above, online they seem to be a "DVD" type store but the shop itself in Anstey is a treasure trove for model railways.
  19. An old thread but this shop certainly gets my vote. Small but amazing stock levels all over and really helpful! They must be one of the last surviving model shops in Leicester now!?

  22. I had my first non-payer earlier this year. I think its just the luck of the draw. The stupid thing is you then cannot leave the buyer negative feedback even after you have followed the non-payer process!
  23. See Dad, I told you all them years ago that was a Deltic , but you wouldn't have it!
